I like the visuals of this one, also I think I get the concept but I got stuck with the 2nd blue car...
Interesting game, nice relaxing piano, really cute looking graphics, I love that you went for the 3D game in a 72-hour jam. For me, that would be difficult to pull off! The difficulty for me came mainly from control. I think that moving with the mouse would be clearer for players. Overall very nice entry, good job!
Thanks for the review :D yeah, the controls are a little fiddly. We almost went for mouse based controls (dragging some kind of path for your car to take, or selecting from the options in front of the car), but we were running out of time and went with what was fast to implement. xD
Yeah I totally get it :)
Your visuals and overall polish are really well for the jam theme, I enjoyed the game but the controls were too difficult, I kept falling on water as I couldnt rotate car properly, I dont know if that's intentional for this jam but that's what my experience was, overall really good game, good luck for the jam! :)
Thanks for playing :) We were both pretty proud of the visuals, given its our first time using 3D, so glad to hear you liked them! The controls are a little fiddly - we intended to implement an undo button, but ran out of time!
I think this is actually a very good idea for a puzzle game, but right now the main problem are the controls, why not having a fixed camera with fixed directions? instead of having to take in account the direction of each car. Also a message saying you crashed and restarting the level automatically when you are cornered would be good. Maybe you wanted this to be part of the diffculty, but I think is not needed. Also the music goes well with the relaxed nature of the game. well done
Thanks for the feedback :) we've been thinking a fair amount about controls and difficulty, but ultimately within the jam we just didn't have time for perfect controls. Same goes for crashing feedback; preferably crashed cars would look crashed, and have smoke billowing up from them or somehting but hey it wasn't to be
Its a really nice game on this peaceful island where you have to sacrifice other cars for your own gains.
The music and visuals are beautiful!
I especially like the design of some of the puzzles, where it's set up in a way that points you towards a solution, but then your tricked into this incorrect solution and you have to figure out another way.
It could really use an undo button though
Well done!
Really wish there was an undo for those moments where you've already figured out the puzzle and make a mistake along the way. But this is really chill to play, love the island aesthetic and being able to see your progress around the island. Best puzzle game of the jam I've played so far.
Thank you! :) An undo would definitely have been a great addition
this is a genuinely interesting puzzle game thats based well off the topic.
as others have said the controls are a bit frustrating with no undo
Thank you for playing :) agreed re. the undo - we almost implemented that functionality, but attaching it to the existing code proved too tricky in the time available
It hurts to make other cars suffer for my gain.. But this game is really good! The peaceful music is pretty ironic, considering that one wrong move would mean having to do start over the "level" (I love how the whole game takes place in one small island, it must have been hard planning the whole thing!)
Thanks for the feedback :) Yeah, movement is a little high stakes! We were going to implement an undo mechanic, but, patching that on top of our existing code in time would have been an absolute nightmare...
Just wondering, in case we decide to make this into a proper game, do you think the controls would be if easier the arrows always moved the cars in the same cardinal direction? As in, forward was always north, right east, etc.
Upvote if you agree, but if you have any different control suggestions I'd love to hear them pls
I like the controls as they already are; they add more challenge into the game apart from the puzzles. Maybe you could add the proposed controls as an option in the settings?
That's defo worth considering; it allows players who enjoy that little frustration of clicking a movement they didn't mean to retain the challenge but offers an option to get rid of that for other players. Thanks for the idea!
I guess the thing which we found hard in making the game is to what degree should the controls be a challenge? Do you want the player to have to repeat the level for control mistakes or do you want it just to be a puzzle about finding the solution? Also, allowing the players to avoid control difficulties makes teaching them complex interactions harder, like how riding on a car affects your rotation.
Peaceful music, good puzzle design, and cute art style! I found the controls a bit fiddly, but other than that really nice :D
Coming from the person whose game music is banger-central, a music compliment is a huge compliment! And yes, I think we needed to re-rethink controls
The originality of this game is great, the controls were indeed a bit hard to take in hands but after that it was really cool to play it :D. (Would have been a great visual if there wasn't shading bugs)
Thank you very much! Yeah we really didn't allow enough time for visual polish. It was my first time doing 3D rendering, so you can imagine the number of problems I encountered trying to make the art xD
Is kind of hard at beginning, but with some time you get the controls. Good job
Funnily enough it was last minute that we acc made the controls that much easier. They were pure degeneracy before then xD
I really like the music, it's relaxing and encourages you to keep playing, the graphics are good too, just a bit pixelated and the topic was implemented very well. For 72 hours a really good game.
Thank you for the feedback! It was my first time doing 3D modeling and whilst I kinda dig the overall aesthetic, there were some issues I couldn't work out how to fix, like the horrid triangulation on the house mesh. In fact, the house's roof is only the shape it is because I couldn't fix a triangulation error in the engine; I had to make the white bit thinner to stop the tiles clipping over them xD
