I contacted them, explained the concept behind our visual novel series ( which is ironically strange - the Arcane City Series was originally written almost 20 years ago as a tv series that would have happened if the fledgling tv network had not folded, and many of the concepts - unbeknownst to me at the time - were very similar to a lot of the ideas weaved through nitro+'s stuff, especially Saya and Totono), Explained the relation to the Lovecraft Mythos etc, asked for permission to use the characters and continue the 'white room' storyline and weave it with the Arcane City / Lovecraft Mythology. They said yes. It isn't as big a deal as it is in the west, to be honest. There are way less hoops to jump through and plus we're playing with a giant multiverse of stories ^_^

Please feel free to let me know what you think, and I hope you enjoy!
Also, please, for the love of pete, don't visit this cursed website after the events of 'Mythos'. It might cause insanity.
I love glitch effects, unreliable narration, and cosmic dread. The idea of Rivers not remembering all of this until later on (when he realizes he's Randolph Carter) kind of adds to the ending. Yog-Sothoth (The All-In-One) simply wiped the evening from his mind.
Ironically the photo was unintentional (but hilariously added a creepy easter egg to the main story).
Did you get to play the original (Monochrome)? I have roughly 10 connected visual novels as well as an ARG that ties into them spread around the internet in various clues, creepy websites, and a youtube page tie-ins. It's all pretty messed up (in a good ole' cosmic horror sorta way).
Yes, I intentionally did that with the music. Somehow it psychologically effects the reader/player when their mind registers that something about the melody is 'off' from what it previously (or normally) should be, creating unease. Doki Doki Literature Club did a hell of a job with that, too. ^_^
I hope the Weather Channel was informative, too! xD
Good Question!
Chronologically, some parts of them bounce around through time and reference each other, but the most cohesive play order is:
1. The Virgin
2. Lyn;Lin
3. Chris Saffron goes to the Movies
4. Alive
5. Mythos
6. The Lost Sign
7. Universe Eroda 1982
8. Saya no Jenerikku Anime Gemu
9. Saya no Ikari
There's a lot of worldbuilding going on and four main characters that appear in some variation or another throughout the entire series.
After some time off, the continuation of the Lovecraft-Mythos based 'Arcane City' Saga is nearing the release of another chapter, with lesser Outer Gods and Great Old Ones continuing to be abducted, the multiverse continuing to collapse, and Saya being stalked - while she has allied herself with the Avatars of Yog-Sothoth, Shub-Niggurath, Nyarlathotep, and Azathoth, with hopes of seeing Professor Ogai again.
Special thanks to Nitroplus for letting us continue the 'white room/asylum' timeline and journey off into some really strange, dark directions with it.

.
That actually makes sense as I grew up reading Lovecraft, King, etc and on the films of John Carpenter, Stuart Gordon, etc.
(I'm an old gen-x fella!)
The game makes more sense in place of our other games and the hints scattered around the web:
