I ended up not having time after the first day so I sadly couldn't put in an entry but good on you for taking it up and giving some closure.

I didn't create anything for my day one other than code, and from memory I didn't do any art for Stacker... oh wait, I did the flipbook sprites for the water but that's not going on artstation :D I did a ton of sprites for octalien but it hit day6 so it doesn't count here.

Ive started rendering out the assets I created during the 6 days.

Here are the assets for Heaven Must Fall. I was pretty happy with these given how long I had but i'd love an excuse to improve them and make some more. Nudge nudge, eh.

I'm thinking I'll either work on one of my two listed above if no one else does... or I'm going to pick up a version of the laser game and give it the theme I came up with for it but it died before I got a chance to implement it.

for me probably stacker, by the time I thoiched it the mechanics were solid so it was a really chill day of polishing and adding cosmetic features,


my best work was probably heaven must fall and I'm sad everyone took the boring taxi version to work on instead :D

Ha I wonder what happens ned by the time I worked on it one day six it was full of jank.

ha! I didn't even think of that. Yeah the score multiplies on number of items and height now so it's all multiplier goodness and encourages wide and tall

doing some work on this today, it's pretty solid already so just polishing a bit, audio and extra vfx

I feel ya, despite making huge graphical updates to a couple games none of mine have been picked up, yet somehow games that don't even have screenshots or web builds keep going.

Interesting about the performance, this is the only game i can play on my 2019 ipad pro (coz it only needs mouse controls) and it runs fine in the browser there.

I'll probably finally touch this game tomorrow, I dunno if i'd have bothered 'upgrading' to URP, but at least it makes post processing a little easier.

there are no games right now that should be over a couple hundred mb at most unless they're full of unused assets or massive audio files.


jams is good for learnin' get yer compression on.

got less done in more time than I expected. Spent too much time trying to make the car drive better, hopefully someone fixes it. But it has a proper theme and most of another gameplay loop now. 

you can't work on a game you've worked on, it doesn't matter how many versions of it there are now, if your name is in the chain, you're done.

that squid really got bigger overnight, we better keep an eye out

im picking this up for day3 ... i didn't enjoy the controller on the day one version and you made it feel a lot better ... time for a glow-up

you can only work on a game from the previous day, you cannot work on the same project twice

yeah your code was fine. I can't code but between chatGPT and I, I was still able to add a bunch of stuff.  There's definitely still a ton of potential in there to add cool stuff but I cannot say more :D

i totally know where i'd take this tomorrow if i knew anything about godot

you're not necessarily supposed to know, you're supposed to pick it up and figure it out. I don't know how well that fits a jam of course because you have to pick something... but there are projects that list themes and even ideas of what to do next, and I don't think those are within the spirit of the jam... so I ask. No one wants to get a project disqualified because a previous entrant did something.

should we not work on games where the creator has described them or themed them with a title ?

theres 5 versions of just unity 2022LTS, i dont think anyone's going to win this argument :D

probably a lot of people throwing a few unity assets in a project and calling it day one ... or otherwise reusiing code to try to win a prize. I don't think i'll take all day (and i started late as it is) but anything submitted in less than 6 hours or so can't have been original, or tested at all.

i'll be using unity 2022.3.5f1 if i submit a day1, but i may just do later days since im mostly art.

Im not going to leave a bunch of comments because we played it with the designer and talked out commentary afterward.

But in short great on theme, art was great and the docuument layout was very readable. Having the spreadsheets to do the maths was sweet.

There are serious mechanical issues due to some oversites but we talked through all that and the _ideas_ for the mechanics are good, and encourage a good type of gameplay, they just needs some tweaks and some rules-lawyer proofing.

Like the other tabletop game this could very easily have a co-op mode added, but the designer wants it to be more competitive and we discussed adding some trading elements which would encourage player to roleplay while keeping it competitive.

Overall really enjoyed this one.

ok i went back and dual wielded the download build ... solid little game, great music, cool art espeically the characters. As far as theme my taekaway was its better to eat human trash than natural foliage. The seasons were there but didn't seem to affect anything (type of trash even) but the gameplay is good... I could see a developed version of this being pretty fun as a score chasing party game for two or more players.

This is really nice.

I really enjoyed the art using maori inspired designs, it was a bit of a pity all the photos were there, im curious if that was intentional or just lack of time.

The story was nice, a little abrupt but I did like how the narrator inspired the neighbour and then the greater world through a natural, if very truncated storyline... it was like you were rushing to tell a story in a 23 minute TV episode :D

Ok i forgive you, i just went through making the wrong decisions, baller effort making two full storylines.

This is a great little jam game, other than the art issue it was well scoped, fits the theme AND you told both sides of the story.

nice music, i like the art in general but i thought the character stuck out... and even though some first nations tribes have world turtle style entities in their creation style the generic indian with feather in hair felt a bit racist in a jam where one of the themes is respect for indigenous people.

the gameplay loops or run circles around island watering plants wasn't very interesting, I dont know if anything else happens other than trees growing and dying but if there was i didnt see it in the 5 or so minutes i spent circling the island.

I too found the letters unreadable, both because they were tiny in the webGL view, then when I went fullscreen that font... yuck. I dont think farm grandma wrote in that font ;)

I did manage to clean the stall unlike many people but the FoV was really unpleasant so I didnt do any farming.

I did steal grandads crops through the glass because im a farming ghost though :D

What I did play was pretty solid though, good use of synty (or synty-like) low poly assets, you included some environmental storytelling which I love.

You did fall into the 'seasons' theme being 'ill make a farming simulator about making money' trope. Coulda made granny and grandad old hippies doing subsistence farming (i dunno maybe in the letters they were :D )

Overall though solid work for 5 days.

Im with you on the FoV, especially when you're inside the house, it made me nauseous.

i think the original idea was going to be you could store 'pollen charges' (which is kinda a thing bees do, and solitary bees even more so) so it'd work in the theme if you could basically have a couple of 'healing potions' and restore them for every X pollen you collect.

im not really a VN guy, even the sexy ones bore me :D so i'll make some technical commentary

you've got a bunch of times where if you click lokk/listen/etc you get 'undefined' attributes

the 'continue' text could probably be a bit more contrasting, i missed it a couple of times, the bold green next to green text on a pale green background  (which is also used for emphasis text in the body) could maybe be a bit more yellow, or something wildly contrasting. That or put it inline with the look/listen/etc

All the maori legends stuff at the start seem a bit heavy handed just to have it in there. The narrator doesn't seem culturally knowledgeable yet they can riff off a bunch of legends. The narrators former companion is set up as the one who knew stuff. It would make more sense narratively is that stuff either came from the bird, or the narrator was looking at books or journals left behind by the companion.

Overall though I think this is a solid entry, it's different, its on theme particularly for the overall theme of the jam. Having the growing lexicon to click on is great, you could probably have slipped some of the language stuff in there too (and also in the couple places you hyperlink in the text that might have been nicer in the lexicon)
