Spoiler-free review for anyone interested:
Genuinely one of the most fun dating sims and visual novels I've ever played.
If you're playing as intended you'll probably reach the base good ending no matter what you choose, but the choices you do get to make have genuine impact in conversation. It's clear that the developers knew what they were doing in that regard.
The game gives you just the right amount of agency over your character. The MC never felt like a self-insert, more like a character I was roleplaying as. I found myself consistently asking what my character would do as opposed to what I would do.
The love interest (yes, I'm dancing around his name, finding out is part of the fun) is very refreshing and doesn't really fall into any archetype. Chatting with him is fun and it doesn't need to be any deeper than that. His sprites are also delightfully expressive.
The art! The art is so nice! My single pet peeve is the directionless lighting in the floating scene, other than that it's all so perfect. The stylized textboxes and windows should get some love as well.
All in all, A Date With Death was clearly made with lots of love and attention to detail. I'd definitely recommend it!
Hi! Really fun game, I've been playing it a lot. Since I don't see any place to submit bug reports, I'll just put mine here
With this setup I placed a flash defense die on the empty +9 spot and now the game doesn't react to any input. For reference I'm playing the linux version on debian 12, though I don't think that's relevant.
This has now become my most played browser game, somehow topping both Minesweeper and Enchanted Cave 2. I genuinely don't think a roguelike can get better than this. Noita might have a bit more interesting gameplay, but it also makes me want to cry so that docks some points.
Attempting to beat the final boss twice in a single run has become my nemesis, so much so that I'm going to buy the Steam version just to get the necessary items. (on the web build expert bow + electric arrows + +2 damage/cast accessory + stopwatch + belt of knives gets you to Magma Core floor 2, but the math simply doesn't work out)
... Is this what the kids these days call paying to win? (´▽`) lol
This game is breathtakingly beautiful, especially Lady Winterbourne's section! It's also a really fun period piece (I can't speak for it's accuracy, but I can speak for the impeccable vibes) I just wish it was longer, haha. The ending scene with Laylah did take me out of the experience a bit, I wish the train had remained mysterious.
Very cute game! Beautiful art and charming characters. I enjoyed the mixed gameplay with 3D exploration and point-and-click elements. The prose was a bit wordy at times, especially towards the end. The story is sweeter than pure sugar, I'd recommend it to anyone who likes to read hurt/comfort fanfiction at 2 AM in their bed with their phone's auto-rotate turned off.
Now, if you'll excuse me, all of this snow has me craving hot chocolate.
Oh dear. That's definitely my fault, thank you for pointing it out! I seem to have forgotten to include an audio file in the update. Were you playing on the web version or one of the downloads? (the web version seems fine to me) If so, what operating system?
Edit: turns out the issue exists on all downloads, so it doesn't matter :D
Hi there! I really enjoyed playing your game.
I did find a pretty game-breaking bug, though: If you get a coin stuck between you and your sword, the coin counter just goes up infinitely. Mister knight here is causing some massive economic damage lol
I have no clue whether this was intentional or not, but since enemies can't go through coins, you can build yourself an impenetrable wall of wealth (which was very fun).
I will have to dock some points for the limitation, though. You wrote that "The final boss is unbeatable", but by the end of my coin-hoarding it couldn't even move. I think that's a draw :D
Anyway, good on you for learning Godot! I hope you had fun and keep joining jams in the future! You clearly have potential and I'd like to see more.
I had a fun time playing this! I like the idea of this being a sort of reverse-powercreep game, where you lose abilities instead of gain them. Could do with a little polish, the movement often feels a little clunky (sometimes the player can't jump while moving). Also, sacrificing walking on water does nothing - you can still walk on water.
The moment I saw the thumbnail for ManlyBadassHero's playthrough I knew I had to play this. Something about this game just makes my brain buzz in all the right ways.
The gameplay is short and sweet, the art is really hot pretty, the English is a little broken but it isn't a problem.
All in all, a good game to play during a lazy afternoon.
This is one of my favorite indie games. The gameplay and aesthetics are really fun, the mechanics are intuitive and the environment is interesting.
I love exploration in games, and this is filled to the brim with it. While the game doesn't focus on it too much, there are plenty of interesting lore hints that enhance the experience.
I managed to get two endings (don't know if there are more), and both of them felt so cool, I kept thinking "wow, that actually worked?"
Overall, the game is short and sweet (I got one ending in 5 in-game days, the other one in 11), but has potential to be played for longer thanks to the survival mechanics.
I really recommend playing this!
