Thank you for taking a look! I would like to revisit the Gameboy / GBA at some point, probably the next time a Jam rolls around. I'll take a look at the metasprite code again. I did take a look at the hblank example so maybe I can verify it helps with the example repo I put in my post.

I really enjoy "Introspection/Overworld Song!" It has strong exploration + base building vibes (like Satisfactory/Surviving Mars)

so sick! "you ever wonder what it all really means?"

let's all love lain

thank you for giving it a try! definitely some things I can improve to make it less confusing / more fluid  and maybe  more rewarding / less repetitive. thank you for the suggestions!

nice entry and story! I particularly like some of the screen shaking and movement, it really completes the scenes and livens it up a bit. the music is spot-on! there were a few abrupt cuts out, but still easy to get back into the story.

Thank you for the kind words and for playing!

thank you for taking a look!

yay thank you for checking it out! :)

nice ideas wit the fail states! I figured it would also be a good to change Elsie's expression in the menu to something scared (also fits the spooky vibe) like "oh maybe I shouldn't be here! eek!). yea the mass farming (even building potions before the  respective quest starts) never really got polished. I also originally build a "wait" menu option to slow the game down a bit and potentially add more cutscenes/content (and to add a 1 unit of stamina back). yea, that got cut too! thank you for checking it out and leaving your ideas! :)

no I didn't. I hear it now, though. neat!

I like the house sprite and the variation of the ground tiles. you're off to a good start! thank you for building and submitting!

wow, never anticipated feeling quite like this reviewing a game jam submission. very well done

spectacular game! very spooky and immersive. I got 3 of the endings. very well done!

wonderful! thank you for checking both the game and the post out! I had a bunch of fun making it and my main goal was to do more of the "flashy" animation work . I'm glad it can be appreciated :)

The only other non-gb-studio game I've found (so far) is this one: https://shadowsora211.itch.io/cats-and-spooks  I think it is built on the ZGB framework  (which I ~think is some common state management on top of gbdk). thank you for taking a look!

thank you for the kind words and for checking it out! :)

maybe not spooky but very, very cool! all you need is a primitive drum machine (maybe one/two types of ticks, 95/120/140 bpm presets) and this would be really fun to jam out on.

the character art is awesome! short but still cool. thank you for sharing!

nice that it is released as a proper gbc game! I think health would be a good addition (mainly so I can skip the start scene and get back to gameplay!). I like that the levels are randomized, too.

I also got stock on the A+B Part. I did think it was cool that the platform stays in the same place after you die. It is an interesting way to add complexity to the puzzles.

oh this one is quite cool! I like the power-ups. thank you for building and submitting!

oh there was one other thing, I think I was able to spam the jump and roll command to reach quite high in the first part. this was actually quite cool and fun and I could see some interesting level skip mechanics (like going over the top of the map, similar to some mario levels)

quite fun! I enjoyed trying to do a pacifist route where I'm only allowed to jump over to lead enemies into the holes! it's cool that your game allows for both types of play. thank you for building and submitting!

thank you for taking a look!  I'll try my best to get some audio working for the next jam!

really well done game! I did manage to get the pumpkin boss done on the second try. the explosion sound effect is really nice .

very unique mechanic! I think the input/button string would be useful to see on the second screen (or maybe some visualization of the sound? like an accessibility setting for those playing without sound). I am having some trouble on the third level, but it was quite challenging and fun before that! I did need to restart to re-read the input controls. thank you for building and submitting!

I was able to get four batteries and a holy looking object. I did see the other thing floating outside the map... a bit spooky! the music volume would be my main feedback. I think the second track was a bit loud compared to the first, another kind of spooky :) thank you for building and submitting!

pretty cool! maybe a bit difficult for me but it was fun mashing the B button! thank you for building and submitting!

very scenic button layout and peek animation! also cool to see it run on GB(A). keep it up!

spooky! I found the map to be a bit complicated/large, maybe a mini-map or something smaller?

unfortunately, I never got around to it. i had too many problems with other parts of my code/tooling. I'll try to get something working next jam, at least menu sfx or something small. thank you for taking a look!

a fun game to see to completion! thank you for building and sharing!

agreed: not sure if spooky or scary :/ gruesome death animation!

I was not able to get the program to run (windows 10). I tried compatibility mode for 8/7/vista but also didn't work :(

definitely nailed the spooky vibe! thank you for building and sharing!

very cool vibe! it is rewarding to defeat some of the stronger enemies. I really like the MEAL sprite, that feels very gameboy/retro!

gameplay is a bit confusing. I really like the art / palette! thank you for building and sharing!

agreed on the confusing menus. as all three locations "look" the same, it is impossible to tell which one you are in! well, thank you for at least taking a look! I originally built an exclamation point sprite that I was going to place next to the menu sprites as a "guide" on what to click next. perhaps I should have seen that one through to completion...

I like that the game forces you to slow down a bit. simple, yet not so simple :) thank you for building and submitting!
