How does your game meet GBJam's theme?
Game is in the 10:9 aspect ratio, the same as the 160x144 resolution. Only uses up to 4 colors at a time. The main character is a skeleton and the enemy that chases you is something that would also be considered spooky.

The timing on the platform-to-platform jump is rough.
Then again, I stink at platformers, so maybe it's just me. I died at the first sign of an obstacle. Well, maybe second. I think I jumped over a small pit without issue.

I did make it so you get a small amount of time after you place a platform to jump while you are in mid air, kind of like coyote frames, but I only set the time to 0.05 seconds, and based on all the comments saying how hard it is, I probably should have made it a bit longer.

Love the idea of the platform mechanic, and cool graphics. I struggled to get over the large gap - couldn't figure out the button timings, oh well! Was a cool game.

I love the randomization of the level each time you fail and the different ways to place the platform. Great job.

Nice one! I fount it a tad difficult, but I guess it needs practice which a game jam does not provide. Ingenious idea though and well executed.

Wow, I can tell some love went into the control scheme, it's pretty intuitive if you practice a little bit.  It's ambitious for a jam but I think well executed. The graphics had personality too!

If you are having trouble with the last part of the tutorial, look here:

I also got stock on the A+B Part. I did think it was cool that the platform stays in the same place after you die. It is an interesting way to add complexity to the puzzles.

Developer (1 edit)

That's because that's just the tutorial area and it's supposed to teach you how to play, so you don't actually die, you just get teleported back to try again. I'm going to have to put up some visual guide up to show people how to do that last part, but you are supposed to quickly tap A and B, or Space and L at the same time while moving right. If you don't tap fast enough the platform will move out of the way and you will fall.

Nice gameplay idea, very original. The music is also great. I initially found it a bit difficult to get used to the controls, especially pressing A and B together. Well done!

Developer

Glad you liked the music, I had to learn Little Sound DJ during the gamejam to make the music sound like it's from a gameboy, and I hadn't made music at all before this so I'm happy to hear someone liked it.

Highly enjoable and unique gameplay. I particularly like the visual indicator of impending doom contributing to game's spookiness.

Thanks for enjoying it!

I like the concept where you can change the height of your bone but I got stuck on the part where you press A and B....

You have to very quickly tap a and b at the same time and keep moving right, it will make you be able to jump from a platform to another.

The main mechanic of building your own platforms is really cool! One issue with the game is that it is not pixel perfect, so it renders to more than 160x144 pixels. Besides that, the game is pretty neat!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for enjoying the game! I don't really know what you mean about the game not being a perfect 10:9 aspect ratio. I made the base resolution 640 x 576, which should be 4x the size of 160 x 144.
