How does your game meet GBJam's theme?
The main character enters a Halloween world full of monsters in a Gameboy to save his brother.

Please, use the exe version for now. I left the web version (because, you know, it's for the lazy) :D. Currently, the web version has a slight bug that imposes an outline that looks like a lighter color, which is not true, because the entire game uses 4 colors.

Fantastic job! I liked how you can throw the glove upwards and it also has a boomerang-like return.

Well made, with nice big stages and checkpoints. Whatever people before me said is true. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank You!

Very polished experience, enjoyed the variety in levels and enemies. Decent all round imo

Developer

Thanks!

Buttery smooth gameplay, well done. The boomerang effect on the weapon is great to play with and getting multiple enemies in one throw was satisfying. Good job all around.

Developer

Thank you so much for this kind words!

I'm not sure where to start with how well rounded this game is! I loved that you were able to add in boss fights. I think my favorite thing about this game is the bag costume and the weapon physics! It was very fun to manipulate it while jumping!

Awesome submission!

Developer(+1)

Glad you had fun! Thanks

Nice platformer that fits the GameBoy premise quite nice and could have existed like this. Was quite fun to play and the checkpoints avoided a lot of potential frustration. The meta layer of playing a GameBoy game where you enter a GameBoy game was a funny touch, too.

Unfortunately it seems you didn't actually use the resolution defined in the rules and then scaled the output window but instead scaled every sprite and rendered a higher resolution. That especially shows in the mismatched font sizes and the rotating gameboy projectile. That's not a deal breaker per se as this is still a very nice game, but maybe make sure not to next time, as this is a rather unnecessary issue :D

Thanks for the feedback!

I understand thing about fonts, but the UI was where I spent the least time and I've been tweaking some things for the last 10 minutes.

But when it comes to gameboy, I don't scale the sprite there at any point. The output window is just run at x5 scale from 160x144, so I don't think that's the case. ^^ Or maybe am i missing something?

Submitted

Hm strange. But no then it seems fine

Developer

Good i was thinking like "wait was something else there or what". So ye all sprites and tiles in the game are no touched by scaling, I also didn't want to be a person who bends the rules because i understand how much work people put into this.

And as for the text you might actually be right, I'd have to look at the code because honestly I'm not 100% sure what it is at which point because someone else did it. Thanks for pointing!

Neat game! Reminded me of megaman but 10 times more forgiving. I enjoyed it quite a lot :D

The color pallete was pretty sweet

Developer(+2)

I was fighting with myself to not make this to hard Q.Q Thanks a lot!

Hooked me from the first level. Stellar level design, nice and varied, challenging in all the ways I expect from a gameboy game except for the fact that I had infinite tries. Great music and visual design. Fantastic little game that could easily have been sold on the shelves in '91 with another two levels.

Developer

Really thanks for your opinion! Great that you like it!

The premise is funny and the gameplay is smooth. I like the art and music, and I like the sound effects even more. The noise that plays when you throw the GameBoy and it boomerangs back sounds funny, I love it.

I enjoyed playing! Great work!

Developer

Thanks a lot! I am glad you had fun.

Smooth and fast gameplay! I loved how the Gameboy bounces back to you :)

Developer

I am really happy after feedbacks on this mechanic! Thank you.

really well done game! I did manage to get the pumpkin boss done on the second try. the explosion sound effect is really nice .

Developer

Appreciate!

Controls are nice and responsive, which you really want to see in a platformer with slight precision and quick reflexes required. Then there's boss fights and lots more content. You really managed to pack a lot into the game jam and I'm super impressed. Loved the boomerang mechanic, and was pleasantly surprised to see it shoot in all 4 directions. Awesome work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you a lot!

It was really, really fun and challenging platformer. Astonishing graphics with their own vibe. The game is long enough to keep you interested by having various enemies and parkour challenges. Really nice addition with bosses, gives you a sense of progression and hooks you in the game for longer.

Developer

Appreciate! Glad you liked it!

Very nice platformer, with smooth controls, very cozy graphics and nice music. Enjoyed a lot first two levels. On third level my boss said I need to work and why I'm playing at working hours :(

Developer

Give me his number! How he dare! Hahaha, thanks for playing and be careful next time!

Once I got used to some elements that felt a bit ambiguous (the thorny bushes and the climbable surface), I enjoyed the game a lot. Very nice presentation overall, really solid entry. Congrats!

Developer(+1)

Generally in my head this ambiguous was to catch off guard people, but probably i made it too ambiguous. Thank you!

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

That was fun! Some of the graphics are a bit hard to read (those extra enemies in the final boss caught me off-guard!), but the art and character designs are charming. The gameplay is competent and fun; I especially like the boomerang game console!

Some of the sound effects are a little loud.

All-in-all, good work!

Developer(+1)

To the Sunday evening there was no even last boss haha. Thank you so much for feedback!

Submitted(+1)

While it feels more like the PC and home console platformers of its time than a GB game, I still had a lot of fun to the point of beating it. What might be lacking in refinement here and there, it makes up for it in sheer length.

Developer

Overall, the fact that I managed to put it together to the end of the jam turned out to be a success for me, despite the desire to polish it I simply had to sacrifice something. :D I am really glad that you had fun playing this game, it's the whole point!

Submitted(+1)

Loads of fun! Some of the hazards come off as background, but I was having a blast blasting ghosts

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Someone told me you played it on stream and i watched it later :D I saw stuck on the falling trap from the roof, for information instead of instant jumping down between boxes you can bait it with your character from the higher box, just go to the edge and back. Appreciate!

Submitted(+1)

Nice tip, I'll give it another go! Definitely the most fun I had with any of the platformer style games I played today but I'm more of a Metroid/Megaman fan over Mario lol
But yea, very good work!

Submitted(+1)

I really liked the game. There was a surprising amount of content and it really felt like a complete game boy game. Good Job!!!

Developer

Maybe even too much for game jam?!? There are like 3 lvls with 3 bosses.  But at the end happy with the result, it's gonna stay there. :D
Thank You!
