Comments like *this* put the biggest grins on my face :)

I'm really glad you enjoyed it Carmen, and it really wouldn't have been nearly as good without your help with animating the book. Like seriously I probably would have wasted 3 days making something half as good as what you made in a couple hours, and with that lost time I wouldn't have been able to polish up the last couple rough edges. I owe you big time :P

Aw thanks Boz! I appreciate the comment :)

And that's unfortunate you ran into those bugs, they had been recurring ones throughout the project, and I really thought I had squashed them. Turns out drag & drop between 2D and 3D objects is a little jank, lol. Oh well, I guess that's game jams. Though it makes me happy to know that you still wanted to finish the game and they didn't cause you to quit <3

Ah, well I mentioned this in another comment, but you need either information or an item from all the other pages to free three and one, so do that one last.

For the blood tree you need to solve the dial puzzle with the music instruments blaring music.

For the runes, you are typically trying to find the opposite of the rune to break it, so for the ice runes you actually need . . .

What part did you get stuck on? Just curious so I can try to get better about designing puzzles for the future :p

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the concept & art!

I'm sorry the font was hard to read, we went back and forth between something very blocky & easy to read and something handwritten & therefore harder to read, and we ended up somewhere in the middle.

Also the fate of every point & click puzzle game ever is to have at least one obtuse puzzle 🙃 so it's not your fault, it's ours, lol

Jk I made it to round 36, I was pulling in like 5 million every turn and my slap could hit most of the entire battlefield

Casey this game is so addicting! It's so much fun slapping & flicking & farting all over the enemies. I'm on like round 25 and I think I'm gonna stop there for now, lol

Also I just collected everything & beat every enemy!

Darkside & Yellow Opera are looking a little different than normal ;P (jk, I still love what you did)

Carmen this is metal AF, I love it. I hope you know this means I'll be wishing for more in the future <3
Also! If I can give one piece of advice, I think the tutorial kinda set the tone wrong with the immediate Mario lost zone platforming and no scythe. Imo you should get the scythe into Tabitha's hands ASAP because that's when the game starts feeling really good (though that first scythe wall jump is HARD, it took me like 10 minutes just at that one place, it's really when the monsters first appear that the game goes into overdrive)

I'm glad you enjoyed it! <3 a lot of work went into this game!

And yeah I totally understand that, volume settings are actually one of the first things I like to add to games because I can't stand not being able to control volume levels

Glube is reliving the fate of Jebediah, who I put into a stable orbit around the sun before he ran out of fuel and I could never retrieve  him after that 🫡

Good job on accomplishing your goal for the jam! Imo I would consider that more important than trying and failing to squeeze in a game at the end. Hopefully you'll be able to use your library in the future to make something really cool!

Great job on the artwork for the portraits & the environments! Also as someone who grew up in Louisiana, I just think it's funny that this game is set there ;D

This is a very impressive little system, even if it is incomplete in its current state

It's like a long lost Overcooked sushi DLC :D

You've done a really great job with this, it's very polished and the multiplayer & leaderboard is very impressive

This is like an almost perfect game jam submission, I love the pixel art, it has a great gameplay system with varied enemies & a leveling system, it's short AND BEATABLE (so many game jam games just don't have an ending), and it's all just well made & polished. You're really only missing some music maybe and then you'd be golden

woah, this SCREAMS Persona, it's just oozing with polish and style! Fantastic job!

Only two things stood out to me

  • The controls on PC are pretty awkward, but I understand this was originally a mobile game submission so it's really not a huge deal for a game jam
  • The enemies seem kinda tanky and so battles went on way longer than they should, you may want to reduce their health if you end up moving this project forwards

But really, those are pretty minor gripes, again you've done a fantastic job

Wow there's a surprising about of systems you have figured out in this for a game jam submission!

Also I love the cute bobbing of your character when he waddles around, lol

I know it's too late for your first playthrough, but I have updated the part you got stuck on to make it a bit clearer for other players! Thanks again for the feedback!

That's a good idea! I might do that!

Have you tried clicking on one of the N runes? Something might happen

I'm sorry to hear that the game broke when you tried to export it to itch :( From what I saw of your progress it was looking pretty cool and the art & music are pretty great

Will do!

No worries! Tutorials are DIFFICULT, even for simple games. It's not something I'd expect for a game jam submission, but it would be necessary if you move forwards with the game

Ah okay, well I'll give two small hints: you need either information or an item from all of the other pages to free three and one, and the blood tree needs one item and the dial puzzle solved to be freed

How far did you get? Did you at least figure out how to free the Fire Demon?

Honestly you should lean into it even more, it's so charming and really sets your game apart from other narrative games

I want to understand this game so badly, it reminds me so much of Juice Galaxy 😅 but I just have no idea what to do during a battle, lol. I try to turn the arrow correctly, but eventually the battle mode breaks and I'm clipping through the floor or something and the screen is strobing

Sorry to hear you were having some technical issues, I like the idea of the game! And great job on the post mortum, it can be worth doing even for projects you don't complete so you can learn about how to improve your workflow for the future :)

Yo it's crazy impressive that you included the level editor that you used to make the puzzles. Really really neat to see

I love the use of real-life plushies so much

Nice parallax effect with your environment art!

Congrats on your first game "beyond just goofing around in a game editor", I know that exact feeling! My first couple jams were incomplete messes and honestly you've done more here than I did when I started 😅

Congrats on the first solo game! It can be pretty tough without a team, but it can be fun every now and then :)

Congrats on the first Godot game!

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!

And yeeeeeaaah the game is pushing the limit of what is playable in a web browser, but at least it still works 😅 feel free to try one of the non-web builds we've also included (sorry if you have a Mac, they're a bit harder to build for)

Congrats on the first game! Most people don't actually finish their first game, so good job on keeping the scope small, lol. And also great job on the devlog, honestly it makes me want to do one for my next game :D

I watched a lets play of the first level of Overboard and you did a great job remaking it! Switching between different shots is pretty clunky, but I think it makes sense here since there's a conscious decision to swap which cannon mode you're using

Bleh!

This game is so cute!

This is an awesome tech demo! Honestly I'd say you could have just leaned into just having the tech demo part of it more and not worry about gamefying the demo, but it's still really cool

This is a great little game! The art from the opening cutscene in particular is fantastic, I had to go restart the game to take another look at it, lol
