I’m glad you appreciate the feedback! Noted that the feature was intended for more difficult puzzles. I think that without clear and established rules for how your game mechanics work, players will rely on intuition based on the presentation of similar mechanics they’ve experienced in other games. Obviously a wall of tutorial text or hand holding isn’t ideal but I think it would make for an awesome challenge to solve - leading the player to understand why they cant paint the tile in the direction they are facing. Take an in depth look at the magic circle theory in game design if you haven’t already, might give you some pointers to solving this problem or similar problems that may arise in your future endeavours.

Unfortunately could not get your game to run on my PC. :(

This is a great start to your game development journey and I hope you keep making games. You stuck to the theme and made a working game and that is a great accomplishment. Good work implementing a menu and a working level. At the moment I was unable to give a great rating on a few principles: It is unclear where the player needs to go, it is hard to see to the point that it could be frustrating for players. The curtain implementation did not really seem to be there at all. Finally, the user experience of having to go to your page, then go to game jolt, search up your user and then install does drive away many players. I suggest really digging to find why you can’t upload to itch or find another solution to get more people to play your game. Feedback is important and I hope you take this lightly because that is how I intend it. You will go far if you continue with the cycle of trial, error and problem solving that comes with game development. I wish you the best of luck!

Stunning visuals and audio. Well written and awesome gameplay. I would maybe suggest an option to skip the text walls? And I had also ran into a bug where I could enter a room and the camera not follow. Otherwise amazing work the both of you!

I promise you it did for me too even when the enemy was just a cube haha. Thanks for playing!

Cute and fun little game! I feel as though my criticism is impacted as I did not get to finish the game, so please take this with a grain of salt. I got stuck after crossing the river as the item that places the platforms did not seem to place in the direction I was facing which felt unintuitive. I feel like even just mentioning what the controls were in the game somewhere would have been nice, I only found out what the controls were upon visiting your page later on which didn’t result in the best UX on my behalf. Although, I really enjoyed the art style and music, it feels very inspired and I love art styles that reflect that. Keep up the good work I hope you and your team continue to improve your skills, they will go far.

Visually and audibly stunning game. The environment design was amazing and the mechanics of the lightstaff felt satisfying to use. However, the walk speed was really slow and felt that I just held Lshift the entire game. It did not feel needed to have the walk speed so slow with no consequence to holding down sprint - could the walk speed just have been the sprint speed and there be no sprint? In the room with the skeleton on the throne, it broke my immersion a little to not be able to just walk the pathway through the skull on the left side of the room - it felt as if you should have been able to walk through there. I feel this game would have benefited greatly from a proper tutorial on how to find hints at least for a small puzzle at the start. Additionally maybe some visual cue instead of invisible walls possible? On a final note, would also like a pause menu or maybe an action button to close the game in a way other than alt+f4. Sorry to go on a tangent, I really wanted to love this game and in most regards I really do, but these issues just took the fun out of it a little bit and I hope it serves as a good learning experience. Great work though!

Ah I see, I did not notice that at first. Thank you for letting me know!

Fun game!! Love the sound work and the style of the environment. The gameplay is intuitive and was very easy to figure out what I had to do. At one point I had more wood than I knew what to do with but the lantern did not seem to open the curtains further than about halfway closed which was a little odd. I think the visuals could have been more thematically consistent. Other than the above minor mishaps I had a wonderful time playing, great work!

haha I found myself fixing major bugs right before the deadline too so completely understand where you’re coming from! Good time management is always a tough challenge.

Great game juice, everything feels responsive and satisfying the gameplay loop is very fun. However it did take me a while to understand what I had to do, I found myself clicking on the creatures and thinking that it was doing something due to the squash and shake that appeared when the creatures entered / exited the curtain areas. Once I found out what to do I had alot of fun playing!

Awesome concept! Love the visuals, the sound design and the ideas. I did however to run into a few issues, the functionality of the curtains seems to break if you click it too fast. A tutorial would be nice; just an in game demonstration of how the game works is all that would be needed. Otherwise amazing game, your team has done so well!

Love the visuals and cool concept! I did encounter issues playing it in my browser however; the mouse would freeze often and then my browser froze a few seconds into your second level - I think the game could work better as an executable. Nice simple gameplay loop and easily accessible.

Very cool implementation of special object if not a little unclear to the unassuming, amazing theme implementation. Loved the puzzles, they are great scalable building blocks. I would have loved to see some sound effects or an end screen for some extra polish but otherwise great submission!

love it

Amazing theme implementation, controls are a little frustrating at times with requiring seemingly frame perfect jumps and low friction on the character but are fun with practice. The latter issue I had is visually communicated which is great, variable jump height would be a great next step for a better UX. Overall top game which is especially great considering the time frame your team ended up having. Superb use of 48 hours.
