I recently read a post that made me realize the importance of providing specific feedback to game developers. I believe that constructive feedback can help developers grow and improve their games. That's why I'd like to offer my help to those who are interested in receiving genuine feedback(including ones that I have already rated).

If you'd like me to take a look at your game and provide thoughtful feedback, I would be more than happy to do so. My feedback will include a 2-3 paragraph response on what I enjoyed, areas for improvement, and any issues I encountered while playing.

The goal of this post is simply to help developers improve their games. Please feel free to share your game's link with me, and I will provide my thoughts as soon as I can. And if you're curious, my game is  https://swagturtle.itch.io/maeltropolis, but please don't feel obligated to play it or provide any feedback as this is not meant to be a rate for rate, but I will appreciate it if you do.

Bit of an update 2/23/2023-

Moving forward, I have made the decision to focus on providing feedback on only half of the requests for the games. However, the other developer with who I was working alongside with will continue to provide in-depth feedback, and their reviews are actually even more comprehensive than mine. I made this choice because writing these reviews takes a significant amount of time, and I have other responsibilities that demand my attention. With the unexpected influx of requests, there are currently many people waiting for feedback, and I hope that you understand and accept this change in approach.

You are thrown into a post-apocalyptic world where the seas have risen and cities have fallen, with the remnants of humanity struggling to survive against all odds.

MaelTropolis offers a unique mix of survival and city-building gameplay, where you must dance a tightrope to balance resource management and city-building,  to survive the calamities and the challenges of a world on the brink of collapse.

I am very grateful for those who have already played the game and enjoyed it and hopefully, you will have just as much fun :D

Hopefully, it does because that is the only major issue.

My bad, I should have clarified, during my first playthrough, I already tried lowering it. It does help compared to max graphics but still lags.

Rated and left some feedback on your game!

The stylized environment and audio are easily the best part of this game! However, the game has glaring optimization issues as I am experiencing low frame rates on a 3060. Apart from that great game!

It really was, I actually thought I had 10 minutes left but due to anxiety, I double-checked the website and found out I had 2 minutes left so I was panicking. Also if you could play and rate my game that would make my day :)

Congrats on completing your first Game Jam! Loved the creativity of the PC home screen!

I have been a game developer for about 4-5 years now and from that experience, I would say the most valuable advice I can give is to not set overly ambitious games. We like to set the bar very high and want to create the next God of war, GTA, or Souls-like, only to have those ambitions crashing down when we evitably cannot finish it. I would recommend creating simple games along with following a task manager to learn what you can or cannot do in a reasonable amount of time.

This is actually something I struggled with even after this many years but have learned to control it. For this game jam, I was originally going to be very ambitious but after some thought realized I needed to scale down the project. This ended up being a good call as despite the scaled-down project I was barely able to submit it(1 minute 29 seconds left :d). It was very challenging and miserable I would have to spend extremely long hours on the game every game along with having to spend 24 straight working it at one point. Thankfully the positive feedback and genuine fun that my friends and this community had with my game made it all worth it in the end! I hope this advice helps you out a bit!

Love the pc home screen, that was very creative!

Alright! I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts and suggestions on how I can improve, as you have shown that you are genuinely interested in providing good feedback.

I really enjoyed watching the entertaining goofy elephant at the start, and I appreciated how the platform's colliders accurately matched the terrain instead of being flat. However, there are a few concerns I have regarding the gameplay. The elephant seems to jitter, and I'm not sure if that's intentional given the game's style. Additionally, the art style looks are not very visually appealing in its current form. On the other hand, the death audio isn't annoyingly loud, which is a nice touch, and the movement controller is relatively smooth despite the jittering and floatiness.

Here is my game! Be warned many people have stated the audio after the intro sequence is a bit loud so be wary of that. Also for the full experience I suggest playing the game multiple times as the game gets progressively more enjoyable as you learn to overcome the challenges.

I see you have taken the quality > quantity approach which is great as both the intro and ending sequences are very good compared to other games.

Good game! Nice use of camera shaking and other post-processing effects really added another layer of polish!

Jesus, 120... That centipede is a menace

Thank you for your feedback. I'm glad to hear that the art style resonates with you and that the game's theme of "stress" comes across strongly. Thank you again for playing and sharing your thoughts!

I tried to get to the end but it was way too hard, this was the best score I have gotten

Ah I see, I do not think I have made it to that part yet to the game's difficulty.

Very interesting gameplay and would love to see this idea expanded on further! Also, I noticed how I can have the centipede can cling onto the right of the page which will avoid most of the letters easily, was that intentional?

Nice background music and goofiness in forming a harem through flowers!

Well done! The game is very polished, especially for 3 days of work!

Just rated your game and your graphics are very good as well!

Good game! I do know whether or not this was intentional but you can kinda do this wall jump-like movement which was very fun to use. The icing on top would be if you added some sort of visual or audio indicator that told the player they took damage. Good luck with your future endeavors!

Thanks!

Thank you! I am aware of the audio issue, if the game gets future updates I will be sure to audio mix the game better!

Very simple concept hope to see this game add more content and polish in the future!

Thank you very much!

Thank you! I am :D

Thank you so much :D I have also already played your game as well. I think I left a rating yesterday!

Thank you for playing the game so much really makes me day :D

Ah, I see. And ig I am a pro gamer >:D

Love the background music and the use of being dead or alive as platforming mechanics. Also, I noticed how there is a camera jitter, so make sure your camera controller is updated in the same update as your player controller and your character's rigid body is set to interpolate. Doing so can help further enhance the overall experience. Keep up the great work!

Rated, I did enjoy it :D

I love the narration it is very unique from all the other games so far. The story really kept me hooked. Also nice attention to detail with the mirrors and how they actually reflect!
