How does your game fit the theme?
The game fits the title by the fact that after each defeat (end) we respawn with a new character with different skills (beginning).

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Everything is done by me except the Tilemap(https://www.kenney.nl/assets/bit-platformer-pack )
and UI assets(https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/2d/gui/icons/2d-simple-ui-pack-218050 )

I like the art and the transition animation you did for this game.
But as for the gameplay, I can't figure out what to do. I managed to ran to the end (far left) and not sure what else to do. I can't figure out how to use the ability too. The jumping feel too floaty too, a little hard to control.

very cool concept for a game! I liked it :) very cool

Also try my game)

Interesting game. I really like the art style used in this game top notch

I like the concept of your game! also game graphic is really cool. I think it will be helpful if you write down how to play it.(ex: abillity - what kind of, and how to use it)

+) Is it intended that player can jump higher if you press A and D repeatedly?

The art all flows together really well.

Not really sure what I was supposed to do, killing enemies filled my red bar, had no idea how to use my abilities.

The music is good too.

Love the aesthetic and music, everything loook quite cute. The gameplay is fine, but the control movement is a bit wrong, feel a bit hard to control and can stick to wall too easily. Also it will be better to highlight the hazard in differnt color, took me awhile to figure out the spike on the ground deal damage to you lol, and the arrows signboard will block movement

Submitted

The art style and music is really nice as well as the concept of characters with different abilities, the movement is a bit hard to control though

I really like the presentation, the main character is very cute, I saw that you said each character had a different power but I didn't see it. Maybe it was a button I didn't click but they all seems the same. It's a fun concept with a good look. Great work! Keep it up!

Like the art-style but the movement needs some improvement

Submitted

I really like the idea of the game ! The different abilities of the character make it interesting. The fact that you keep going in the same direction while jumping makes the controls a little hard though.

This game was pretty decent, but there is in my opinion a lot of room for improvement:

First of all, the movement doesn't feel good, the players horizontal movement and jump both felt way too floaty, additionally you've way overdone the lookahead time. Another problem was that the player was sticking to the wall which also caused me quite some troubles. The feeling of the player movement is the most essential thing in 2D platformers, so you really have to make sure that it feels good! I'd suggest you looking into GMTK's Platformer Toolkit, it has high quality information about 2D movement (his channel is also generally really good for game design) https://gmtk.itch.io/platformer-toolkit

Another thing was that the music became really repetitive after a while, so maybe you can change that up a bit. The graphics on the otherhand were fine, I actually really liked theme, so good job!

This feedback may come across as a bit harsh, but Game Jams are primarily there for learning purposes, I also used to have a terrible platformer, so see this as a chance to improve!

If you want you can check out my game, it's also a platformer and it's controls are a bit floaty (only realized this after playtesting with some friends, playtesting is really important!), but it has most of the things implementend from the platformer toolkit, so you can see some of it in action :)

Developer

Hey, thanks for constructive opinion.

I am still learning and all ahead of me,  it's important to get these to improve skills. I agree movement could be much better (almost all code was wrote by me) , also music isn't amazing (I am completely new to making music in games).

I'll check out your game now, but don't forget to rate mine :D

What a neat platformer!!!

The art was nice, the whole name presentation was awesome. It had the original Brackeys options menu, which I love! Controls where kinda sensitive, got used to it, the wall jump was essential. I wished there was some kind of damage animation, at first I thought the spikes didn't work because I could walk through them :P

Also, never found the skills, all characters were the same for me, althou I was probably missing a key.

Also also, you have to open the exit door with E (you can also close it) and then press enter to exit, LOVE IT.

Overall great work!

Hey, I am glad you liked my game

Actually every character had different power. Now I regret that I didn't make some kind of tutorial.

So,

I made a system of "souls". You get one soul killing each enemy (bar at the bottom of the screen shows how much you have). Like I said, each character has individual power (wchich you can use, while pressing "r" button on keyboard):

Morbius: Regeneration power

Hermes: Faster movement speed and jump power

Hades: Ability to become invisible

Palladin: Activates shield, wchich reduces damage

Of course every use of power is temporary (every lasts 7 seconds).

Ok, I think that's all, thanks for your feedback.

hahahaha, I saw the red bar when hitting enemies, thought it was some kind of enemy healthbar :P

Welp, I missed that whole aspect of the game. Maybe just some controls somewhere would've helped? I didn't even know there was an R input.

Nice gameplay, also liked the artstlye and the animation when you die and respawn. But the player moved too fast, I think it need a little more adjustments

Wow, love the variaty and artstyle. Very well done!

Nice game! Sound was cool. Did you use Bosca Ceol? I think I recognized one of the bass samples. I used it too :)

I think my main critique would be that the player movement is too loose, but that could just be a preference thing.

Overall, good job!

Developer

Yeah it was Bosca Ceol, thanks for feedback and rate :D

I like the art style and the music! It could definitely use some kind of effect/notitifcation when you take damage, and perhaps a brief message explaining the skills of each character.

Developer

Well, I implemented sound effects when player gets damage and dies and a few things in settings menu. Unfortunetly, when i built my game, some effects didn't work, but I didn't have time to fix them.

Good idea with "tutorial" explaining the skill of each character. I think I will come back to work, when the game jam ends.

Thanks for playing and giving honest feedback.

Good game! I do know whether or not this was intentional but you can kinda do this wall jump-like movement which was very fun to use. The icing on top would be if you added some sort of visual or audio indicator that told the player they took damage. Good luck with your future endeavors!

Developer

Yeah it was intencional. Actually something like text pop up would be great addition to my game.

I am glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for your feedback and good luck to you!
