My partner and I reference this game every single day without fail. This is part of our culture now, and I love it.

I loved this, this is the kind of game that I wanted to make. It's like if Warioware and Moonlighter had a baby. In a dream world there would be a third element to it where you could upgrade the shop itself maybe through some sort of combat or RPG elements outside of the cafe (not saying you should have done this in the timeframe but for me that would be interesting if you were to keep working on it). Absolutely great game, the ability to see the orders when you're off screen might be handy, in the style of overcooked maybe, but this is one of my favourites so far.
No pressure, but I'm definitely playing your entry after this. I feel like being able to see how something you agree with's flaws is the true sign of creativity. Back to the future took 5 years to write cos they kept going back to it, and it still has flaws. I similarly, like elements of it, and I'm thinking of a mixture between Papers Please and the shop mechanic in Moonlighter, sort of the Independent shop owner being trapped into possibly making unethical decisions to survive.
I think the mistake here made me realise something about myself, I was like "I'm not sure this guy understands how capitalism is actually defined... actually neither do I" when I looked it up it was basically that all the money is owned by a few people and everyone else works for scraps. The American Dream was originally "anyone can work hard and become wealthy" is more at odds with capitalism than I would have thought. With capitalism not being that different from a monarchy, it actually feels that it's against everything the Americans stood for when they told the British to piss off.
If the jam was called "People are the Fxcking Worst", it would seem clear, I assume, that the games were going to be showing grievances with specific kinds of people, (people who take the last seat in starbucks even though they are behind me in a queue would lead to a hotline miami style game for me). Im interpreting Fxck Capitalism to mean Fxck the abusive nature of some elements of capitalism as it is today and not "I want to burn our world to the ground."
I don't think being angry is useful for me, and I feel like you have very real fears on this and if I may, your frustration in this thread comes from how you've interpreted the Jam. I think if we, you and me at least, understood each other's grievances, it could actually make for a good inspiration for the games themselves.
If it makes you feel any better, I'm not planning on interpreting it as 'dismantle the whole game'. I'm more interested in issues like, US states trying to reduce the working age to 14 to combat the fact that people are refusing to work shitty jobs for low pay, instead of increasing the amount those workers are paid. In the UK in the 80s the average household income was about 20k a year, and the average house price was about 21k, now the average household income is about 21k a year and the average house price is £285,000. I feel like we are being shafted.
I am of the opinion that there is probably a positive reason behind some of the most confusing and horrible behaviours, and in this case it's a case of #notAllCapitalists, by this I mean I understand why an anti-capitalism movement would be terrifying to you if it seems like a 'tear it all down' vibe, (and my skills in music etc would definitely not get me far in a bartering world). I dont want to destroy everything, I just feel that working hard should lead to more money and a better life, but often working hard equates to nothing more than surviving.
So for me it really is about "Add a skip cutscene button".
It's understandable to fear life as one knows it to completely change, and since the most famous enemies of capitalism were communists it makes sense to assume that "my enemy's enemy..." is in place. The reasons you hate communism aren't exclusive to communism, and everyone here, its safe to assume, hates the downsides of communism as much as the downsides of capitalism.
Think about criticism of capitalism the same way as someone criticising Luigis Mansion. There are bits of it that absolutely suck, and would like to change (locking a boss behind a 5 minute cutscene ffs), it doesn't mean that if they had added a 'skip cutscene' button we wouldn't all be slightly happier with Luigi's Mansion.
Or think of a country as a family multiplied on a huge scale. It's ok to hate the way your parents run your house, if you worked twice as hard as your sibling and got a percent of their allowance you'd be pissed off. It wouldn't mean you hate your family. Or that you wish your family were the Manson Family, it would just mean, you think aspects of it is unfair and you'd like to address it.

Basically everything he does is relevant, but this in particular for us, as it relates to Creative Commons licences, and the scam/shakedown from a company called Pixsy. Essentially you can use anything that has a creative commons licence as long as you attribute the creator, pixsy has been sending letters asking for money (150k in some cases) from people who did attribute the images but made a typo, or left a comma out due to a loophole in the creative commons 2.0 licence rules. They tried to shaft him using this despite him being a co-creator of creative commons licences.

This article on how King Charles won't pay inheritance tax on £15.2bn of assets. like everyone else has to.
This wisecrack video on how the US has discovered children working in dangerous jobs and instead of making it stop are trying to legalise it, as no-one wants to do crappy jobs for crappy pay, and instead of increasing the pay, they want to make the work-start age 14.
I'm wondering about this, because I'm sure this means different things to different people, but mainly I'm asking because I'm wondering how much of the crappy stuff to add in, like the terrible draw distance, or the quantity of copy pasted characters, can I keep a smooth 3d camera, or should it be infuriating?
Than you for your comment, yeah the game play and button are really lacking I totally agree, I actually did highlight the button in my last update but then accidentally broke everything and there wasn't enough time to fix it. I've learned a lot about my ability, as the scope of my idea and my ability were not in sync, so getting the basic mechanics implemented took way too long.
This is a very inspirational game, I always have a habit of trying to make something two years ahead of my ability and the simplicity of this is incredible considering that so far it is the first game I've played form the submissions where I had to stop myself from playing instead of eventually losing interest.
I feel like there's a mystery element missing as there's not much reason given for why I should keep going (eg. an indicator of potential upgrades instead of having them just appear), but overall I adored the rain of items mechanic. It's genuinely addictive and reminds me of the kind of thing I would have probably paid full price for on an Amiga or ZX Spectrum when I was too young to have had any money.
The biggest problem with this is that I told myself I'd rate and comment on all my commenters games before making more coffee IRL and I failed almost instantly.
I love that the visual feedback of the light on the coffee machine translated into the ship, and the cat picture and coffee cup flying about was a nice touch. I think it could benefit from more of an 'idle' element after a certain point, but i was engaged enough to persist to the end of a second cup of coffee.
I liked it and thought the narration was a great way to keep me engaged, and the mechanics were intuitive enough that I figured it out without any exposition. I would have liked maybe a specific button instead of a click anywhere mechanic, but overall it's a great idea and I'm glad I played it.
Thank you the music and surreal part of it is certainly more of a strong point for me than the coding, and the clicker mechanics being basic is definitely an issue I agree with. I had never played a clicker (except maybe my name is mayo on the vita for 5 minutes) until cookie clicker which I played while making this, so it was a new frontier. Your comment has made me curious about other implementations and I look forward to working through the other submissions to get a feeling for the potential.
