I loved the atmosphere in this game! The background ambience/music really added to it. Playing as the drone with such an atmosphere made it kind of unsettling. There is a scary feeling as a human to imagine being a robot who is stuck in a "loop" of solving puzzles in such a cold, eerie environment, where the reward for solving is another puzzle but even harder.
The mechanic of using the insides of the boxes to solve the puzzles was interesting enough to keep me playing and keep my brain occupied. I liked that. Sorry that I will mention the atmosphere and worldbuilding again (but it's what I love the most about games...), I loved the mechanic also because it felt like I was basically shifting between different worlds and it gave a new perspective to both of them. By changing perspectives like that, it made it even more immersive.
I would really like to see this expanded, maybe adding more environment art and background to support the world-building.
I also kind of liked the way you have to undo moves until you get back to where you made a mistake. I can see how that can be frustrating when you have to really go back, but I liked the idea that you are maybe a drone that simply has a linear memory and has to go back step by step, instead of reloading a specific point immediately.
Great work!
Wow, thank you for this extensive review!
Funnily enough, right before starting the work on the game, we watched Alien: Romulus in the cinema, haha. We wanted to get inspired by it, so you saying that feels great.
I'll pass the question about the assets to Robin (who worked on the Environment Art part, among other things), they'll let you know.
I am also glad you said that it could be part of a bigger release. We definitely plan on polishing it, and maybe even extending it into a slightly bigger, more elaborate, game/experience.
Thanks again for playing and spending time writing this review :)
Hey! Thank you so much!!! I just watched the VOD and you really looked like the target audience, haha.
We definitely should have made it at least a bit more forgiving. Also you mentioned that the physics when you launch from a moving ship should work differently, yes, they should, I really wanted to finish it (and it hit me even more when I saw you aiming correctly but failing due to the missing implementation), but we had no more time and didn't want to risk fucking up the build with more stuff, haha.
Your playthrough was really anxiety-inducing, I loved it! I am a bit sad that you didn't make it to the end, you were literally so close (and put so much time and effort, thank you for that.) All that was to be done was to launch yourself into the BIG fans (leap into the unknown of sorts) right after the last "puzzle", when you were holding onto that railing and were confused where to go next. They will push you into the last section. But that's on us, we should've signal it better.
(PS: There is a short cinematic at the end as a reward, in case you want to give it another try, wink wink, shame we made it too hard, or frustrating, so not many people get to see it)
Thank you very much for playing and for the kind review!
I always get happy when someone points out the sound design. Really tried to make it as immersive as possible :)
I’ve heard your game is also great from my teammate (+ i was looking over the shoulder while they were playing, haha) will definitely check it out myself as well.
Thanks for this great review! :)
It would probably be best to add at least one check point in the middle of the level to keep the player playing (the level itself is not that long, but the player has no way of knowing that) Thanks for pointing that out. We will definitely polish it more and maybe expand on it if we decide to continue working on it after the game jam ends.
Also thanks for the recommendation, will check it out.
Thanks for the kind review and for giving our entry a try!
Haha, we definitely would love to take the setting and ideas behind it and make something a more elaborate and complete experience :) We love this aspect of science fiction and what it has to offer in terms of understanding humanity, both physically and mentally as you pointed out!
Hey! Great game with a certain vibe to it. I love the music and atmosphere in general, quite magical.
Funny story... I got into the Basement Dweller level by rabbit and really loved it. But then got stuck and couldn't figure it out. In the end I restarted and went to visit the level again only to find out there's also the NOT YET FINISHED text under it, haha. I hope that was the reason I could not complete it, not my brain.
Anyways, really fun concept, at first I felt that the moving to and from objects is kind of frustrating or too much, but soon i grew to appreciate the way it was. Made it just a bit harder to conceptualize (which is a good thing in a puzzle game, simply made me think harder even regarding movement itself.)
I will for sure come back to this game if you plan to continue working on it :)
Hey! Thank you for the feedback :)
We aimed the game in a more “hardcore” direction to also reflect the idea of scale as a hardship to overcome and solitude as something to accept. Therefore, having no checkpoints was a conscious decision we made.
Altough we do understand it might get frustrating at some point, it’s something we want to balance out and test more after the Jam, dependening on player feedback (such as yours :)
Thanks for playing!
