Title
Weathering Heights

Description
An area theme for a mountainous landscape, inspired in part by Paper Mario 64.

For this song, I used a 7/8 time signature. I was inspired by the image theme of a sunset falling over snowy mountains, and tried to create a majestic feel similar to what one might experience looking over the view for themselves. The song is separated into 5 sections: intro, chorus, verse, bridge, and reprise.

I didn’t have a lot of time to work on this one, so I hope it’s not too rough around the edges! Any and all feedback is much appreciated!

Great blend of plucky arpeggios and serene, touching strings. You've captured your theme perfectly. It definitely gives me a vibe of snowy mountains, somewhat reminiscent of Chrono Trigger.

Nice piece!

I think your sound, the repetitiveness and the constant flowing of 8ths could work well as a video game track Kinda gives me some Celeste vibes but with big strings.

One thing worth trying is not having the strings, which for me is the main melody, always change one the 1.  A tiny  bit more rhytmical variation might go a long way to keep the listener a bit more guessing and making the piece flow more natural.

I did really like the vibe you were going for and the way you handled the 7/8 worked really way for this piece.

Honestly how could a videogame-esque song about a mountainous place NOT give Celeste vibes lol

Keeping the strings on the 1 count was my way of trying to give the piece some stability, or like a foundation I guess? I suppose I sort of used the strings as a fallback though, so it could've been done better if I'd tried to experiment more. Thank you for the feedback!

Your 7/8 never sounded me as odd. I really like the arpeggio you put in from the start in 4+3. It's a very well-balanced piece of ambient music in terms of rhythms, progressions and variations in arrangement.

As it's a challenge on signatures, I would have liked more rhythmic risks. Many of your patterns play on eighth notes, or are held notes.

But at the same time, given the color of your music, I think it was difficult to do otherwise without distorting the contemplative aspect.

Anyway, I liked it (I even listened to it twice).

Thank you! Admittedly I was pretty tame with the melodies in this one, but as you said it was hard to experiment with more complexity without confounding the song's mood too drastically. I'm glad you enjoyed my song enough to listen twice ^^

Nice entry! I love this jam, because I am always thinking "what signature will this be?" and the 7/8 just HIT me instantly. At first it felt inappropriate, but you quickly made it work through the simple repeated structure. That is very important (simple and repeated) in order to not make the 7/8 feel overwhelming, and you nailed it. Over time, the 7/8 just worked better and better, as it should. The sounds are also very pretty, and I can totally imagine mountainous landscapes. Well done! :D

Thank you! I'm glad I didn't overload the song too much, I was worried it might be too simple and repetitive, and admittedly I had some trouble finding equilibrium. But it seems like it turned out alright!

I really liked how decisively it was in 7/8 time. It was very easy to feel the time signature. However, I don't feel liked you utilized it to its fullest. The melody as far as I could tell was the whole notes usually on strings while the bell like instrument played on each beat for the 7/8 feel. What I mean to say is that I wanted the melody to focus more on the time signature if that makes any sense? at least more than mostly whole notes.

still a very nice song and I liked all the instruments used!

Ah, this is probably the second song I've ever made in 7/8, so it makes sense I didn't use the signature to its fullest. Listening to some of the other entries in this jam is giving me some ideas for future songs and other ways I could utilized the time signature though, so I'm happy this has become a learning experience for me. Thank you for the feedback!
