Title
My Odd Neighbour

Description
The challenge was to find rhythmic patterns that didn't sound too wobbly, so as to make the listener forget that we're not in 4/4.

The first part quickly became obvious, with a false waltz in 3/4 + 4/4.

The second part was built on a pattern I'd loved from David Bennett's Frère Jacques (quarter note, quarter note, quarter note, eighth note), which I doubled to fill out the 7/4.

I wanted the last part to be more intense, and found a pattern that seemed ideal for that: round, dotted quarter, dotted quarter.

I love it when a song drops down to just one instrument and then starts to build up again. It's a great way to rejuvenate interest and add a more dynamic feeling. The piano melody works wonderfully with the time signature!

I love how you managed to make the odd time signature sound perfectly natural and even endearing! I also very much enjoyed how you visually represented the notes in your video. I’ve been taking a music theory class recently, so seeing the notes in the signature represented visually is interesting and helpful to study :)

Hey, it's me again :). It's been a while, but I am back! How could I resist such a tempting challenge - I have been making 5/4 for ages (which is why I did not make a 5/4 song this time) and have tried my hands at 7/8 before, so my hands were itching to get to work on this challenge. I am very curious to hear what you made!

This was what I came here for: making weird time signatures work! You use the same signature as many others (7/4), and you use different techniques to make it work: the first sounds like 3/4+4/4; then at 0:52, I hear what I call the 'Wonder Woman rhythm', 3/4+1/8 repeated twice (which I purposely did not include in my song as I got sick of hearing this everywhere); then, going to 4/4+3/4 at 1:24, with the 3/4 classically split into two notes; and a funny ending at 1:52!

To summarize, you seemed to have to have the same idea as me: use different variations to try and make 7/8 sound nice! I gotta say, I think you succeeded slightly better than me in this regard. It is funny to recognize the same patterns in your song that I have considered for my songs as well. But an additional benefit of your songs is that... they just sound adorable! This is not just an odd neighbor, but a very nice one too!

I came here with a critical view, as I will not give you a good rating just because I like you >:). But as usual, I will give you a good rating because it is just a banger! I want to give criticism, I truly do, but I just... don't have any. You, Selkione, and others like Blue Lava are simply how I want to be :D

Hi, nice to see you again.

You've written me a novel :D!

Thank you so much for your attention to my creations. Indeed, I wanted some variation in the 7/4 and above all I wanted to discover what could be done with it. After a while my ear almost got used to this strange signature.

I don't know Wonder Woman's 7/4, do you have a link so I can listen to it?

I guess the end of my music can be surprising, it's rare to hear a 7 beat break. I've been having fun trying things out. Today, I don't really care about the ranking or the grade, I'm just happy to progress and learn by trying new things. But I must admit that receiving messages like yours is particularly heart-warming.

I'll take the time to listen to your two compositions and I'll try to write a longer comment than yours.

I just found it, it's the main theme of 2017's Wonder Woman. I'm old and only knew the theme from the 70s series.

That is such a good mentality, to just want to progress and learn new things. At first, I got sucked into music jams and my competitive drive made me want to become first in the ranking. Over time, I have given up on that goal and that gave me such a relief - I now want to improve my skills, have fun talking to people here whom I sometimes would even call a 'friend', and listen to other creations to inspire me! In other words, I am here to stay for a while :)

And, if I knew beforehand that "I'll try to write a longer comment than yours," I would have not made my comment this long! Thanks though, and feel free to be critical of anything :D

Good instrumentation with a pleasant blend of acoustic instruments and synthesizers. Great, consistent flow, with new things being added at a steady rate. Solid melodically as well, and the mixing isn't half bad. Overall an interesting and pleasant listening experience.

Thank you for your comment. I always work hard to have an interesting melody.

I'm gonna be honest. I listened to this song before the rating process because you said you had submitted and I knew that meant that it had been uploaded somewhere. I really appreciate the visual aid for the time signature and rhythms. I tried to implement that into my video inspired from your previous songs but it is not nearly as well done as yours. Really nice also!

Thank you for your message. It's always nice to see how eagerly you listen to and comment on all the music.
You're one of those people who make animated videos to accompany their music. You're an enthusiast, and so am I.

And it doesn't matter if you listen to it first. I know people will listen to it when I see I've got 10 views before the jam is even over :D
