Cool game man, I'm always for shooting swastikas! If you were thinking of adding a hiscore at some point look into dreamlo.com, it's what I used for my game

Fun game man, I really like the transitions

Interesting game idea mate, are you going to continue development of this? The music's not quite to the jams restrictions but I'd rather listen to that then nokia beeps haha

Oh really? why not?

This is really neat dude, cool concept. I liked how quick paced it was, dying was a good reset but not painfully punishing. You should keep working on this one, could develop it into a full sized game.

This game looks cool, sad that I couldn't give it a try!

Haha I might try see how feasible it'd be to get this game build onto a 3310 haha

Cheers! Yeah the zoom out was a feature I definitely wanted so you could get a nice big view of the screen, sadly you just lose a bit of definition on the dinosaur itself.

The leader board's nothing special, I'm using http://dreamlo.com/ to host the scores and using a modified version of the Unity asset for dreamlo to load/add scores.

Nice dude, yeah I was about 30 minutes before the Jam deadline when my friend complained the game was too easy so I upped the difficulty without too much testing. I think I overshot it just a little haha

Ahh yes, I agree. Any advice for how I could make it more snappy?

Cheers man, and congrats on being the #1!

Cheers cheers, when I was making the game it didn't feel alive enough until I added the rolling ground

Thanks for the review, man. Yeah this was my first time properly animating pixel art at such a low res, it's hard to get any detail haha

Hmmm there's an AAA with 53 points at the moment at "8/2/2021 1:19:41 PM" could that have been you? If not, I'm not sure where your score got to!

Oh really? What was your score and username? I've seen a few new names in the list so it appears to be working on my side :S

Yeah I agree with that menu comment. The main menu was put together in a bit of a rush towards the end. I'll think about that kinda presentation in the future, cheers.

I'll start a petition to get them to change it haha, thanks for the positive feedback

This game is cool, are you going to continue developing it? Would be nice if the camera was a little more dynamic though so you could see ahead of you easier, I found that the circles appeared too quick for me to grab them sometimes

Dude this is sick I love it. The controls feel super responsive even though it's 84x48. The sounds are great too.

(1 edit)

Submitted with not much time to spare. I stuck in a global hiscore leaderboard.

Currently there's an issue with the sizing of the WebGL frame where it can cause the pixel grid to mess up and make my game's text and sprites appear stretched. I'm using pixel perfect camera and upscaling the res. Does anyone have any ideas to fix this?

Edit:

Oh my god, after struggling with it for hours I realised my Windows Display resolution scaling was set to 125%. Usually this defaults to either 100% or 150% which would both scale the pixels smoothly but 125% causes the stretching effect I was seeing. Setting this value in Display Settings back to 100% / 150% fixes the pixel stretching I was seeing and black bars around the edge of the WebGL display!

Anyway, enjoy the game!

Cramming for the final release. Here's a sneak peek of the title screen of the game I'm calling Dino Dash.

A few things added all at once! Now we've got meteors, lives, and also the view slowly zoom out as you get further (speed of zoom exaggerated for the gif)

Running looks a lot better when Dino's moving across rougher terrain. Also added a score counter.

Not had too much time to work on this but got a goofy looking run animation going with some basic movement controls

Neat little game mate, you should work on this more! Would be a sweet mobile game with a few tweaks. Could make it a rage game with a global hiscores so friends can compete.

I was moving backwards to avoid the turret and when it shot me it pushed me through the wall. Here's a video of me stuck behind the elevator.

Hi finbear, I'm skeldoor. This is my game, Spaceship Shipping. You need to pilot your spaceship while collecting packages and delivering them to the finish point.

Man you've put a crazy amount of work into this! The different translations are fantastic and it's insane that you voiced them all yourself. Really good stuff, this feels like the kind of game you could get on Nintendo Switch and it'd do well.

Loved the humour. The art style's great and your characters really pop.

Did you also make the music yourself? It's great. The beach theme reminds me of Spongebob.

Sweet video man. Watching you struggle at the start of Jump Switch made me laugh because I did the exact same thing, had to double check the instructions to see if I had missed a button. I love the bird sprites in Escape Velocity, very well animated. I will check out Emily's adventure! I can think is missing from the video is where's the Spaceship Shipping playthrough? :P

Do you think the post processing is too much? I was going for a retro kinda look. Glad you had fun mate

Ahh yes a completely zero G mode could be interesting, you'd need to make sure you weren't flying into walls. Might not work on android with how I have the control system set up but it does sound cool. Thanks for the positive feedback!

Neat game, I found it quite hard but it was good once I got the hang of it. I wonder how it'd look if the ship's rotation was static and instead the world rotated around it. At first I thought we had made and submitted the same game when I saw those blue/green platforms surrounding your levels haha!

Neat game! I survived 2:15.

Hey I'm Matt (Skeldoor),

I'm new to the whole game jam thing and haven't used these community posts before so I thought I'd start today with the Nokia jam. I recently took part in the FFS Finally Finish Something jam with a game that I started back in May that struggled towards the finish line. So I'm gonna take part in this jam and see what I can create and learn in 7 days rather than spend another 7 months on a bigger project.

I'm hoping the shorter deadline and tighter restrictions of this jam will force me to learn a little quicker and keep on track with my deadlines. I'm thinking of going for a 2d endless runner and I've drawn a cute dinosaur to go along with this idea so I think I'll keep it dino themed. I'll need a name for the game (and the dino??) soon, any ideas?

Interested in keeping up with development of this lil game? I've started a Twitter for my game dev journey

Thanks man, appreciate it.  Also Loot Goblin was great!

Thanks for the nice feedback! Yeah I think the post processing is nice too, gives it a retro arcade look. I was also planning on giving it a filter that gave it a scanline effect for an even more CRT style but didn't manage to tweak it right so it looked nice on mobile devices.

Thanks man, I'm glad you liked the music. Not much of a musician myself so I'm proud with how the tunes I made turned out, track2 was done by Gizmodude on SoundCloud and 1/3 by myself.

Yeah it's  a lot harder on pc than it is on mobile. PC sensitivity could probably be reduced but it was tricky to get the right balance between smooth control and the ability to quickly change direction.

Cute game, can imagine it in a retro arcade. I wish the sheep wouldn't get as stuck behind the gates. Loved the happy sheepdog

Really nice game man, feels really full with lots of content. The sprites really pop and have satisfying animations. I'd be careful with the name though, Runelite's already a popular runescape client name so you might have trouble getting it out there with runescape already been so established. Will be rating when the jam voting opens
