The idea is solid, I really like how you need to use the reflection of the TV to avoid the enemies. However it was very difficult to navigate. I struggled with the controls since the player's movement is only limited to the space in front of the TV. I think maybe instead of reflection you could do a top down view of the room and allow the player full movement in the room. But that would almost be another game. Anyhow, great job!
I was pretty invested in game play from the beginning, I liked the point and click adventure that you guys have made. It reminds me alot of the escape room games I played as a kid. I could not for the love of god find the key in kitchen however, I feel like Im missing something and I keep back tracking to find it but Im very lost.
Hey Ryan,
I really appreciate your critiques!! I agree that story could use much more development, it was my fault for not managing my time effectively for that aspect of the game. I had intended for there to be a story about the mother (who is depicted as the smoking lady ) to be cause of broken household that you see the player is currently living in.
Thank you so much for checking out the game !
I was interested in setting of the level and was wondering i at one point the player would have the ability to stand up and walk around the room however I couldnt get pass the minigam. It was very difficult to see the next wall obstacle and I constantly failed. I can see the potential in this game if the mini game was a little more polished.
Short and simple game! The scream gave me a good laugh and did startled me. I think the mini game could be improved if some of the bugs are dealt with, I had problems where I did have the correct tool in hand to drive away the monster but I still got killed. More soundFX and music would also be a big plus. Great work!
The game very much had a psychological feel which I was completely bought in to from the beginning! I thought that the setting felt very fitting for the 'story' and gave me the creeps as I explored the level. One thing I do gripe with is the channel changing. It was difficult to tell which channel to switch to to go on to the next objective. This lead me to being lost for a moment, but I figured out the level layout after that. Overall very weird experience which is BIG PLUS for me. Would love to see more of this in the future. Great job!!!
This game was a very unique experience. The game play was pretty unsettling and captivating. As for the story, it was very difficult to keep up with but I as I have read from others and heard from you guys, this was intended. This was an ambitious project and it showed through the fantastic voice acting and 'Lynchian' writing. I believe that if the game play was somehow even more connected to the dialogue it would bolster engagement, though how to do that would be way above me. Awesome job guys, I hope yall continue to make more games like these!!!
Great work making the TV effects, it looks very good! I enjoyed the levels and the text pop ups during the play through. The jump scare faces are pretty spooky, I wish that it had more build up to them to make it even more spooky! I was fighting against the controls a bit but maybe that was intention to increase the difficulty of the game. Overall I enjoyed the experience, great work!
Im glad it gave you a good scare :^]
I am very into old foreign cartoons, so I looked into GIFs of old Russian and Japanese cartoons. I essentially reduce the color count of each GIF and apply my selected color palette. After that, I just scale down the image size to fit within the screen of the TV sprite. There are a few channels that I drew myself, and those are meant to have multiple phases such as the 'smoking lady,' the 'tree,' and the 'laughing face.'
Thank you so much for checking out the game!!!
You did it! You won! Did you notice the clues vanishing and only leaving the words in red? It's supposed to be a sentence if you rearrange from 'top to bottom' to 'left to right.' If you want me to tell you, let me know, or you can play it once more and see the phrase. There was a bug that made 'dad' appear once you go to the 'touching' clue, causing the game to go into a win state. It's supposed to be triggered after the 'hehe' clue, but I unfortunately didn't have time to fix it. T___T
The game has since been updated on my main game page, so if you want to play it again, you should check it out here: https://sugarcow.itch.io/hehe-television
I really wanted to develop the woman's scene to be the mom who was seduced by a charming devil (literally) and how it affected her family. I didn't have time to get that through, but these are the animations for it. I'm glad you saw some semblance of it! Thank you deeply for playing and giving me your impression of the game. I really appreciate it! :^]
