Hello,
Does anyone have any ideas on how to set up the control scheme?
D-pad, Select, Start, B,A
As these games will likely run on PC/Mac/Phone/Tablet... do you think it's ok to use on screen controls and/or keyboard input, providing the controls are limited to up/down/left/right, and two buttons?
Thanks
John
This sound toy has sound icons on the right that can be dragged and dropped into the path of an orbiting circle in the middle, which acts as a trigger when it hits them. It’s not very precise and I’m not sure how to get a screen reader to work with it. I’ll have a look into it and see if it’s possible or at least start my next project with this in mind. Thank you for your comment.
By the way, I took part in a game jam specifically for blind gamers last year. I made a game with a 3D environment to navigate called Lifeforms. It was my first attempt and probably not that great, but there were some really cool submissions, I’ll add the link just in case you missed it. Link to games for blind gamers 2
Love the hand/beater interface thing! :) Does what it says on the tin. Would be nice if it did that thing I usually do because I can't play my 'glockenspiel' (Apparently xylophone is the wooden one, but I call my metal one a xylophone anyway) where you hold down the beater and move left and right to make a dream flashback sound.
That’s amazing! That guy really pushed it to the limits! Made me crack up :) unfortunately the reverb and pan doesn’t work on WebGL and there are a few bugs with saving that I need to sort out, hopefully get back to it next week. Anyway, thank you for all the ideas and for hosting the jam! Great fun!
I really like the idea of having demos in a console. The menu system works well too and has a great retro feel to it. I started with Melody Heights, which looks and sounds amazing. I wondered around a bit and went up to what seemed to be the summit. I like the way all the fairy things emanate sound and fly away from you. It might be nice to be able to speed up or even moon jump to dramatically shift the soundscape.
Then I had a go at Harmony Falls. I didn't realise I could shoot the sounds at first so I just died in a discordant harmony, which sounded pretty cool. Shooting was fun for a while but I didn't get the feeling I was going anywhere. Perhaps in a future version there could be levels with different sounds and maybe a parallax background for sighted players. Looking forward to Secret Bread and Super Kaleidophone !
Wow! Excellent idea! It took me a while to get a sound out of it, but after randomly increasing all the parameters it got really interesting! This is really sophisticated stuff with lots of features and would work well both visually and sonically for performance or sound art. It might just be a good idea to add some kind of tutorial or instructions, even if only on the itch page.
Hi there!
I usually use a blog when I'm doing a game jam to help motivate myself, reflect, and possibly learn something. And, if anyone else is blogging, vlogging, devlogging or whatever, I'd be interested in reading/watching.
This is my first post for this jam and I'll be updating it regularly if anyone is interested.
I have one sample pack which is free if you put 0 in the money bit. The sounds are from my instruments/studio and you can download in any format including ogg. I aim to make a new one for this jam. I used the sounds in this game for a recent jam.

We are all affected by discriminatory laws. We have seen this type of politics before.
This kind of politics is rising in the UK and Europe too and seems to be financed by the types of Steve Bannon.
One tool used is targeted personalised social media posts based on user behaviour, such as happened with Cambridge analytica.
The aim seems to be to turn people against each other by playing on stereotypes and irrational fear. Distract, Divide and conquer so that the general population blames each other for the the ills of the world rather than the extraction of ‘wealth’, from human labour and natural resources for personal gain.
The main imperative seems to be to keep the rich and powerful rich and powerful without consideration for the Earth and all life on it.
I think terror management theory might go some way to explaining reactions to anti-capitalism and/or pro-capitalism ideas as they are both concepts which potentially supply a sense of immortality through death denying fantasy (Ernest Becker). This is why you might want to put your sunglasses on or take them off from time to time.
As I am interested in taking on the challenge of making a game that takes a critical look at the dominant global system most of us are trying to survive in, let's put our sunglasses on and explore four interconnected beliefs that probably need looking at, and that might provide inspiration: The American Dream, Meritocracy, free will and the self.
Let's start with some comedy: The American Dream
Then, Meritocracy (Term originally coined in a dystopian Sci fi novel: The Rise of the Meritocracy)
Myth of Free will
The Self Illusion
What's the self illusion got to do with capitalism? Warning 4-hour mind-warping documentary! (Edward Bernays to Tony Blair)
So, any game ideas for dreams, merit, determinism, selflessness and happiness machines?
Really enjoyed this! The mechanics are great and it is very addictive and fun. It definitely fits the theme and I love the art style of the sprites too. I like the way you had a little cut scene to introduce the evolution idea at the start and the way the eating sounds got deeper the more you evolved. Beyond the jam it would be nice to add some parallax background to give a better sense of depth and movement.
Thank you for trying it out! I have been writing about making this 'game' in a blog. There are some images of code and comments in there. https://redninja83882493.wordpress.com
These are the submissions from the jam: https://itch.io/jam/games-for-blind-gamers-2/entries It was called Games for Blind Gamers 2.
I did a game jam for blind gamers recently. Was interesting to start designing from the sound up. Some entries used recorded dialogue that you could interact with using keys. Others places sounds and speech on objects in a 3d space so you could move towards them with a first person controller using your ears. In general, I find it is good to have one audio source per game object so that you can manipulate the pitch, stereo position easily in the inspector (Unity). Other general tips would be to convert your audio files to ogg, and avoid long audio clips.
Hello, I have submitted my ‘game’ but didn’t manage to set up the controls in the way I wanted. There are a couple of days left though and maybe I can sort it out in time.
Anyway, does anyone know how you can set up touch (taps and position) and mouse click (click and position) so that the game can be played on computers (with a mouse) and on mobile devices (with touch) for WebGL builds (to be played in the browser)?
Currently, my game is working as a WebGL build on mobile devices with touch, but not on computers with mouse.
I am using Unity with C#
