It's very addicting to play, you really wanna progress, but the spike hitboxes can be a bit frustrating. Maybe it would help a bit to make it a little more forgiving. I like the concept, and the controls feel super solid. I like it!

That's a shame that you didn't finish. I was really scared as well that I wouldn't make it, since I had to submit a few days early to account for my vacation and my export broke the game somehow. Thankfully I was able to still fix and publish it in time. Hopefully you'll be able to submit a game next time. Btw, you could still upload your game, I'd be willing to check it out, even if it isn't a jam submission :)
Here's my game, would love for you to check it out:

It's a spooky game btw, so if that isn't something you like playing, feel free to skip it!
Thanks!
Hi, would appreciate it greatly, if you checked out my game: https://itch.io/jam/acerola-jam-0/rate/2574213
Just a heads up, it's a spooky game, so if that's not something you like playing, feel free to skip it!
Would love to see someone play my game on stream :)
Just a heads up, it's a spooky game (atleast it tries to be), so if that's something you don't like playing, just skip it!

Yea sadly HTML exports get way more traction as the barrier to entry is just way lower + the point you made about malware is definitely a big turn off as well.
Sadly Godot 4 doesn't have HTML export for C# projects yet, or I would have definitely done that too. Thankfully there are still plenty of people willing to try out the downloadable versions of games :)
Wow, thank you so much for your kind words and amazing feedback :)
It makes me really happy to see someone appreciate all the little details, especially the cheesy voice acting and sound design.
I wanted to even go even further with the "haunted ROM style" as you call it perfectly. I wanted to simulate game crashes at certain points and the game changing/corrupting more and more every time you restart it, but sadly I didn't have time to go down that road.
Horror is my favorite genre in media and I'm so happy that my first finished, even if short, horror project seems to be a good starting point for more to come down the road :)
Really cool game, love the aesthetics and music. I love Stardew Valley and Link's Awakening was the first Zelda game I've ever played, so your game hits all my check marks. I sadly couldn't finish it in one sitting so I'll have to get back to it eventually, but from what I've seen, playing the first 4 days, this feels like a complete experience.
Something about this gameboy aesthetic and a farming game, paired with the music, makes this a really cozy experience.
You did an amazing job here!
One of the main things I was most torn about when making this game was the question:
should I telegraph that this is gonna be a horror game or let players run into it completely blind, but then that felt a bit mean and I tried making it a bit more apparent with screenshots and the game description that this is not a 'normal' maze game. It makes me happy that someone went into it without knowing, and doesn't hate me for it :D
Thank you for your valuable feedback and I will definitely reuse some of this game in my current project, which is a horror game as well, but a bit more meta :)
Your game looks great as well, will check that out right now!
That's pretty cool, I also thought about making some kind of video or stream reviewing some of the games on here.
Here's my game, it's an homage to those maze screensavers on old Windows computers (win95-98)
It also has a dark twist, making it a horror game, so if that's something you'd like to try out, I'd be happy to hear your feedback :)
Hi, I'm currently on vacation and will return on Sunday, until then I'd love to have a list of games I can try out from the jam. Pls drop your games in the comments with an (optional) short description, I'll try to play and rate all of them, if it doesn't explode into the big hundreds :D
I'd also love it if you checked out my game a-maze-ing, it's an innocent looking game, that seems like it's an old Windows 98 game but actually turns out to be spooky, so if that's something that interests you, I'd love for you to try it and leave me some feedback, no matter if it's positive or negative :)

Hi, I made a small horror game for the game jam, I'd love it if you tried it, if that's something you like playing

I'll make sure to check out your game as well when I return home from my vacation on Sunday :)
It's a really good game. The art, music, gameplay and atmosphere are all superb and while it starts slow, turns into the most beautiful bullet hell game I've seen. Great entry as always :)
I did get stuck at a certain point however and couldn't progress further as there were still two demons left, but I couldn't find them anywhere.
Wow I really liked the animation and the concept in this game. Something about this is just so lovely as it takes me back to the good old stickman flash games I used to play all day back then. The graphics are simple but still very enjoyable to look at, and the puzzles are also really cool. Other than that it is very short, which is fine in a game jam, I don't have anything to criticize. Great game, enjoyed it a lot :)
Hey, would love if you'd check out and leave some feedback for our game. Will check out yours as well :)

Thanks man, we definitely improved since then, but time is essentially still the biggest problem for us. We both have a busy schedule and a lot of assignments and exams, but I'm happy we were still able to finish our game.
Changing the controls to WASD + Mouse is interesting and will definitely try it out soon.
