Cool game and very nice design!

I find the game a bit difficult, seems there is not so much material to fix the problem and there are these purple eye things that kill me every few minutes, which I don't really understand why :-). Seems that these things also killed me during the tutorial :o

Thank for your kind words!

Well, Pico-8 is the only engine I use, so I can't really compare it to others. But I would describe it as a simple but complete game engine.

Because it's simple, it's quite easy to learn, you basically have 5 tabs and you can do everything with it, which is very cool! You are not overwhelmed with features, menus and so on. Which I think is nice when you start learning game development.

The programming language is Lua, which is quite clean and easy to learn, especially if you already know another language like Python, JS.

As the name implies, Pico-8 is for 8bit like games, so you will have some limitations when making your game.

All in all, it's good for prototype/game jam games and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Thank you !

Thank you for your kind words and feedback!

Regarding the scoring system. At first I wanted to have a classic life system instead of a score (like you start with 3 lives, if you get hit you lose one, and game over if you lose all your lives). But since it's a game jam, I wanted people who play my game to be able to see all the levels without dying.

So I removed the life system and implemented this scoring system. The scoring system works like this: Your score increases when you kill an enemy, a boss or when you complete a level. If you get hit, you lose 10 points.  The maximum score should be around 180-185.

You are right, I did not think about it, but I should add a +/- score pop up, as you say, close to the character or maybe on the top right, close to the score?

I'm thinking of updating my game after the jam and if I do I will definitely implement that.

Thank you!

Thanks for the feedback. I'm thinking of continuing to work on my game after the Jam and will try to improve.

Thank you !

Thank you for your kind words!

You game is beatufiul and the platformer gameplay is very cool! But like other people say, it would be nice to have more explanation on how to use the things you grab :-)

That's a nice concept ! Hope you will keep working on it and a fun building it !

Very cool game, and I really like the art start!

I would have liked to have the gun from the start to make it a bit less grindy at the beginning. But overall very solid game, well done.

Love the twist, well done! Nice poetic game, I liked the gameplay with the blue personality, that's clever. Would love to get more levels on this game :-)

Hello fellow Pico-8 user!

Congratulations on your game, it's a very fun puzzle game!  You've done an amazing job and I'm impressed by the number of levels you've been able to design!

I would only suggest you expand your project page a bit to add information on how the day/night cycle works!

I hope you had a lot of fun developing your game.

Congratulations on your game! It's a very nice action/platformer game and I'm a big fan of the aesthetics/music, beautiful and very polished.

If I had to suggest an improvement, I would suggest making it a bit easier, like with more player life or some way to regenerate your health. Also some platforming phases were very punishing like the one on the screen below, like if you fall you have to restart from the beginning.

But anyway, very good job again, congratulations to your team.

Good job on your game!

Regarding UI, I find it a bit stranger to have the back button close to the the middle of the screen and not on the top :-)

Very fun game, you did a great job, it looks super nice too!

I liked the fact that the attack was automatic, which made the game very easy to understand and instantly fun. The perks were also well designed and original.

Good job on your game, it's very nice!

I liked the combat system and the possibility to interact with things with the wand!

I would suggest to add to your game page the controls of your game (I did not understand how to hit enemies without mana, it was not mentioned that I had to press E). I would also mention that it should be played in full screen, otherwise you can't see the HUD.

Cool game! The core mechanics are very nice and the art/music is very good.

Loved the aesthetic of the main character and the background effect.

Nice game, good job on your work!

The paralax effect felt a bit strange, I would just update this :-)

Hope you had great fun during th jam.

Look very nice! I would just make the movement a bit faster but anyway it's very cool.

Love the style !

Love the visuals, retro TV style and music! Nice platform/puzzle style game!

At first it did not understand that I had to interact with the round things to remove the water and thought I was doing something wrong, I would add some kind of pop up to clearly show that you have to interact with that part.

You said you didn't have much time, but I think what you did in that short amount of time was very impressive. I think it is a very good proof of concept. This is a game I could play outside of this game jam.

Do you plan to continue working on it after the jam?

Cool shooter game, liked the perks design and the way the waves of enemies spawn.

Well done to your team. Nice game, good music and looks very nice!

I especially liked the change in colour and FOV when you go deeper and the decoration (big creature skull, ship wreck,...)!

Hey, I think your concept is very good and very creative. It reminds me of some kind of FTL style game where you have to manage your ship / drilling machine.

The only thing is that it's quite hard to understand what you have to do. Some kind of tutorial would be very good to understand how to play :)

Hey, goood job very cool and fun concept.

I got an issue on my first two try, I was out of bound :D. But it worked the 3rd time!

(Firefox, I tried in full screen mode and was also out of the map)

Hope you had a lot of fun building your game.

Hard game! Congrats on your submissions.

Your game is very impressive. I'm amazed that you managed to make it in just 7 days.

It's a very nice puzzle platformer with a spooky atmosphere.

I would just add a few checkpoints and it would be perfect. A nice game to play outside the Jam.

Cool 3D game, good job!

I also had the same issue reported by Jesway regarding the camera dragging downwards (on Firefox)

Thank you for your kind words! I also remember your post on discord, you also did a very nice job!

Hey very good job, your game is beautiful, I love the isometric style! Very cool tactical game.

The only thing I would improve is that it was not very clear to me if I could attack or not, some system to clarify that would be perfect!

Thank you so much for your kind words!

As for the Pico-8, it's a very nice engine, and it's the only one I've used so far! I'd say it's a very simple but complete engine.

- Simple: In a way that you are not overwhelmed by complex menus, options, configuration.

- But complete: You can do everything in Pico-8: programming, sprites, maps, SFX and music.

As the name implies, Pico-8 is made to make 8-bit style game, so you have technical limitation in code size, screen size (128x128 pixels), spritessheet (128x128 pixels also).

All in all, I think it's a fantastic tool for prototyping and game jam. It's also a good engine for anyone wanting to take their first steps into game development. The community behind it is also quite large and very helpful and welcoming.

Thank you !

Nice game, congratulations on your submission. It looks very nice and the music fits the game very well.

Thank you very much !

Thank you for your kind words ! Could you please let me know what you mean by smoother movement? How could I improve that ?

Thanks for the clarification, it's cool that you will update your game after the Jam. I will definitely have a look, I'm adding your game to a collection to get the notification.

Congratulations on your game, it's very nice. The art is also great!

I like your puzzle concept and that you chose to add a story that fits the theme in this way. The energy system with the purple and blue things is also clever, I really liked that mechanic. Hope you had a lot of fun during the jam!

Small remark regardin UI, the number of  ⃤  were covering the energy bar:

Also, I was not sure if I was at the end of the game or not after that dialogue:

Would be cool to have something that stand up a bit more and maybe a restart button. :)

Thank you very much! Please do not hesitate to tell us what you like, what you dislike and what you would improve. Criticism is welcome!

Well done! You did a very good job. The music is fantastic!

The ammo system is also a very nice addition to this type of game.

Did the difficulty increase over time?
