Good job ! Very cute drawing and it's a fun little game. Hope you had fun during the jam.

Good job ! :-)
I would maybe suggest to have the player boat more in center so enemies can come from everywhere. Or maybe add a 2nd type of enemies comming from the top ? Anyways gratz on finishing your game in so few hours.

Cute ! I liked you drawing and the player animation. That's also I nice gameplay idea. Hope you had fun during the jam.

Nice game, I cleaver idea, I like the concept! Hope you learned a lot of new things, it's very hard not to over-scope on a 3 hour jam :-D

Congratulations on your game! Beautiful art! I tried all the buttons and the results were always fun to watch!

Congratulations on your game! It's very cute and the music is very cool.

Even though you didn't have time to add the rope system, it's still a good achievement, well done!

Very impressive game, and in less than 3 hours is very impressive.

The music is amazing, the animations are very cool and I like the overall style of the game.

The enemies are quite powerful though, which makes the game quite hard.

Congratulations on your game! It's a very good and creative idea! I liked it very much.

The art looks very good too!

I would only have added some kind of scoring system and maybe a timer for the order to add some challenge.

Congratulations to both of you.

Hi dear Pico-8 friends !

Good job finishing your game in only 3 hours! Well done and it's a cool concept and smart use of the "1 button" theme.

It's cool that you were able to had some SFX and a very nice end screen, with the score display and the fish droping behind. I liked it very much.

Very job, you game is very cute and nice looking, I like the sprite, animation and nice music. It's also a cool and fun concept!

Thanks for the explanation and the code!

Nice idea! Good job on making the game in less than 3 hours.

As mentioned by others it's very difficult :-) Maybe with less possible colour it's would be easier (and adding more colour during after some times).

Maybe also adding a UI element to show the colour order would help, so you know how many "clicks" are needed to match the incoming enemy.

Thank you for your kind words.

It's really nice to be back :-) I took this jam as a kind of weekend coding, planning and creative exercise. It's nice that it doesn't take too much time. I will try to participate whenever possible to keep practising.

Yes, it's fixed now! Well done to the whole team.

Congratulations on your game, it's a nice submission. I like it and fit well the theme. The game looks nice!  The backgrounds and music are very impressive, especially done in 3 hours!

Regarding the gameplay, I would maybe apply potions by clicking on them directly, I was confused on my first run. I would also put them in the same order as the warrior stats.

You can also increase your stats very high, have you thought about adding a limit to your stats?

I was looking forward to test you game, I saw you streaming during the development!

And I'm not disappointed :D! You managed to make a complex and deep game, yet simple, following the "1 button" theme of the jam.

I liked the mix of your sprites and pico-8 symbols, it looks nice. The SFX are nice too!

I just have a small bug at the end of the fight, I can't restart the game (either if I win or lose), I have to refresh the page.

Also, have you considered changing the Movepool during the fight? After a certain time or number of uses of a single ability?

Congratulations on your game, well done in just two hours!

Nice idea to adapt this type of shooter to a single button, it works very well.

You even managed to add particle effects that look very nice. I also really liked the "noise" (I don't know how to call it?) effect, it looks very nice and fits the game's atmosphere and story.

It is also cool that you have added different points depending on the size of the asteroid, which adds to the gameplay as you have to think about which one to shoot.

Lovely game, your drawings are very nice!

I think your game fit the theme very well, it felt like an adventure. I think it was a lot of planning with all the possible discussions and outcomes, congratulations on this achivement!

Well done! Very nice game and impressive in only 3 hours.

I like the art and the mechanics (+cristals recharge your sword).  I also like the sword crystals that turn grey when used, it's a nice detail.

Good job on your submission, I hope you had fun learning GDScript.

Good idea to add different key presses to manage different shots. I liked the sound effect and the tutorial was well implemented and clear.

(1 edit)

Congratulations on your submission, it's a very nice take on this kind of "endless running" game!

It works very well and I love the drawings and the running animation. The SFX and ambience sound are also a nice addition.

I would just add an image for the player health and number of laps, I was a bit confused by the two numbers at the top. Otherwise very solid! As mentioned below, this was a resolution issue that has been fixed.

Gratz on your submission! I need check you github to see how you generated those random maze, I guess it was quite a challenge to do !

Cool game and very nice design!

I find the game a bit difficult, seems there is not so much material to fix the problem and there are these purple eye things that kill me every few minutes, which I don't really understand why :-). Seems that these things also killed me during the tutorial :o

Thank for your kind words!

Well, Pico-8 is the only engine I use, so I can't really compare it to others. But I would describe it as a simple but complete game engine.

Because it's simple, it's quite easy to learn, you basically have 5 tabs and you can do everything with it, which is very cool! You are not overwhelmed with features, menus and so on. Which I think is nice when you start learning game development.

The programming language is Lua, which is quite clean and easy to learn, especially if you already know another language like Python, JS.

As the name implies, Pico-8 is for 8bit like games, so you will have some limitations when making your game.

All in all, it's good for prototype/game jam games and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Thank you !

Thank you for your kind words and feedback!

Regarding the scoring system. At first I wanted to have a classic life system instead of a score (like you start with 3 lives, if you get hit you lose one, and game over if you lose all your lives). But since it's a game jam, I wanted people who play my game to be able to see all the levels without dying.

So I removed the life system and implemented this scoring system. The scoring system works like this: Your score increases when you kill an enemy, a boss or when you complete a level. If you get hit, you lose 10 points.  The maximum score should be around 180-185.

You are right, I did not think about it, but I should add a +/- score pop up, as you say, close to the character or maybe on the top right, close to the score?

I'm thinking of updating my game after the jam and if I do I will definitely implement that.

Thank you!

Thanks for the feedback. I'm thinking of continuing to work on my game after the Jam and will try to improve.

Thank you !

Thank you for your kind words!

You game is beatufiul and the platformer gameplay is very cool! But like other people say, it would be nice to have more explanation on how to use the things you grab :-)

That's a nice concept ! Hope you will keep working on it and a fun building it !

Very cool game, and I really like the art start!

I would have liked to have the gun from the start to make it a bit less grindy at the beginning. But overall very solid game, well done.

Love the twist, well done! Nice poetic game, I liked the gameplay with the blue personality, that's clever. Would love to get more levels on this game :-)

Hello fellow Pico-8 user!

Congratulations on your game, it's a very fun puzzle game!  You've done an amazing job and I'm impressed by the number of levels you've been able to design!

I would only suggest you expand your project page a bit to add information on how the day/night cycle works!

I hope you had a lot of fun developing your game.

Congratulations on your game! It's a very nice action/platformer game and I'm a big fan of the aesthetics/music, beautiful and very polished.

If I had to suggest an improvement, I would suggest making it a bit easier, like with more player life or some way to regenerate your health. Also some platforming phases were very punishing like the one on the screen below, like if you fall you have to restart from the beginning.

But anyway, very good job again, congratulations to your team.

Good job on your game!

Regarding UI, I find it a bit stranger to have the back button close to the the middle of the screen and not on the top :-)

Very fun game, you did a great job, it looks super nice too!

I liked the fact that the attack was automatic, which made the game very easy to understand and instantly fun. The perks were also well designed and original.

Good job on your game, it's very nice!

I liked the combat system and the possibility to interact with things with the wand!

I would suggest to add to your game page the controls of your game (I did not understand how to hit enemies without mana, it was not mentioned that I had to press E). I would also mention that it should be played in full screen, otherwise you can't see the HUD.

Cool game! The core mechanics are very nice and the art/music is very good.

Loved the aesthetic of the main character and the background effect.
