I'm going to sound like a complete asshole but this needs to be said

99% of the games on here are garbage.  What's worse is that some list their game for $5-10.  I know you can "pay what you want", but expecting someone to cough up 5 to 10 bucks on a game that runs like my Grandma's diarrhea, when I could spend the same amount of money on a used game from a AAA studio, is absurd.

Go look up "Den: The Forgotten".  The dude wants $10.  Are you fucking kidding me?  Now it's 100% off, I bought this on accident, and now I have to look at this heaping trash in my library every time I view my Library page because it thinks I own it.

Dear god.  I spent all of about 30 minutes playing games here and I doubt I'll be back.  Good riddance.  No one has standards anymore.

If you need a refund you can contact support.

Otherwise, this topic is not constructive in any way so I’m closing it.

I agree with you in general, but in the case of Den: The Forgotten you had gameplay footage and multiple screenshots to view before making your decision.

(1 edit)

Just like game trailers from AAA studios that have nothing to do with the game.  You have to play the game to truly understand.  Game art, trailers, screenshots, etc. doesn't really do it justice.

In any case, why am I unable to delete this from my account?

Just like game trailers from AAA studios that have nothing to do with the game. A lot of good game art does.

But it’s not a trailer, it’s direct gameplay footage. Looking at it I can tell I won’t like it.

In any case, why am I unable to delete this from my account?

Because you bought it, even if at a price of zero. If you’re adamant maybe you can ask support but I wouldn’t bother them with something like this.

Not sure what your problem is.  I tried the game, gave the developer the benefit of the doubt, didn't like it, and now want it out of my library.

(1 edit)

I don’t have any problem. I said I agree with you but that you chose a bad example.

Example for what?  Why are you even replying to my post?  What is your angle?  I want to DELETE a game from my library.  HOW DO I DO THAT?  Are you going to answer the question or continue to act like a toddler?

(2 edits)

You cannot easily, because you claimed the game. I have already said this.

The only way to refund is to contact support, but if you’ll be whining towards already busy people on something as minute as a poor game that you yourself had chosen to claim, instead of dealing with your own mistakes and having a slightly tainted library, then you’re the one who seems like a toddler, sorry.

If you were that busy you wouldn't bother to reply.  I have contacted support to no avail.  I write software for a living and poor design is a cardinal sin.  Not having the ability to hide/delete unwanted noise from an account is a joke and would take all of two seconds to fix.  Do you really want to showcase your work on a site in which the site developers aren't even up to par?

I went through your post history and see that you made a game that is comparable to the one you said you wouldn't bother playing, based on the videos of gameplay footage.  You're going to knock "Den: The Forgotten" when you come out with trash like "Purgatory Prime"?  You're kidding right?  The way you talk I would think you had some sort of masterpiece in the works, but it couldn't be further from the truth.  You also seem to like to argue with almost everybody, so I guess our discussion here is just another extension of your charming personality and forum etiquette.

You're talking about "mistakes I've made" like it's some kind of major life screw-up.  Sorry, this isn't a heroin addiction I got myself into.

I'm glad I came and posted here.  It just reaffirms what I do not want to be and who I don't want to associate with.  Good luck in Indie hell.  There's a reason you're here and not some AAA studio.  Goodbye forever.

99% of the games on here are garbage

You’re not wrong, but the 1% is why I keep coming back. I like the fact that the lack of barriers allows anyone to try their hand at publishing a title, and once in a while something genuinely good emerges that might not have come about on another platform.

The reality is that 99% of basically any form of media is garbage, you just usually don’t see it because of barriers that prevent people from sharing or major platforms using algorithms designed to only show you what’s most popular. I like that there’s a place on the internet where I can turn up a big rock and see what gremlins come out.

Fair enough.

I guess I'm more of a perfectionist.  Either the game is on point or it doesn't see the light of day.  I've been the same with with game development as I have with music, art, and pretty much everything else in my life.

I'll keep searching for that 1%.  Thanks for the heads up.

Sorry to hear about your frustration. But you should know game development is very difficult.

It is very hard to be motivated, creative, and put in all the effort required to produce a full game.

I can't speak for any game you might have played, but try to realize testing is by itself tricky.

Quality Control and Standards can slip without the developer even realizing.

Most people a developer would know are infact not very reliable. These days it's actually a fight just to get people to test a game free or not.

So even for free games others will have to "pay" the "cost" post-launch by running into issues such as bad performance or bugs.

You never know why a game is priced the way it is either.

When you see a game that is priced too cheaply or has a big discount, it might be because the developer has panicked and is desperate for players.

Don't think cheap means good deal on a good game. It all depends.

Looks are often deceiving btw.

You must TRY OUT to FIND OUT. That's just the way it is.

Makes sense.

I guess I always wanted to know what I'm doing, inside and out.  It wasn't enough for me to just use Unity/Unreal/Godot, or whatever other engine, and just crank something out that has bugs on the end-users' system that were unforeseen.  I tend to program everything from scratch and take these things into account from the beginning.  It takes a massive amount of time and I churn out far fewer projects than I should, but I take polish very seriously and it's worth the wait in my opinion.

I think these engines are really doing programmers and developers a disservice because they oversimplify the game creation process.  For example, if you don't know the math behind 3D rendering how could you possibly fix in-game glitches on an engine you have no control over?

I don't like being negative.  Just frustrated like you said.  I won't waste anyone else's time.  Take care everyone.

Wow, I'm glad someone agrees with me.  I couldn't have said it better myself.

I think people lack patience to learn things deeply.  They also think that because they learned it on a YouTube video it's correct.  There's almost no discussion on how to write quality software.  It seems like it's more of a hack together approach, and as long as it works, so be it.

Rust is a good example of a game made in Unity that suffers horrible performance problems.  On a decent GPU (RTX 2080) I can barely push 80fps, and even then there are horrible fps drops.  This is on a game created back in 2013 and it runs so bad I can't enjoy it.

I looked through your post history and see that you tried to create your own engine in C and OpenGL.  DON'T GIVE UP!  That kind of experience can get you a job in industry.  Rarely are these things done by solo developers, so the fact that you actually tried it, learned from it, and realized how you hit an experience wall puts you above most others.

Sorry to hear that. As others have posted above, game development is tough business. There are multiple factors to determine a game is good or bad.

On top of that, people have their own judgement. Some games might be trash for some people but treasure to the rest.

The reason we have review and rating section is to filter bad games buuut it's not 100% perfect obviously. Still, having that section is better than nothing.

Not to mention most developers on here are hobbyists. I have zero computer qualifications. I don't even use them at work. I reckon the last time I used windows was quite possibly Vista in maybe 2010. Newest Mac os I've used is 10.8 mountain lion. Do my games reflect this? Yes of course they do. Doesn't mean I havn't put as much effort in as possible to get the product to the highest quality I can.  As I'm sure is the case for many devs on here. But I'm happy with what I made and I did all I could. It's indie for a reason. Many devs use this as a way to hone their skill sets and unlock doors to bigger and better things. I do agree that there is some very low effort games on here though!!!

yes its very hard finding a decent game here there are so many, that is well made but there are gems there. and most often they are free to play pay what you want

im also quite picky about the game i play

You are right, you sound like a complete asshole.

You have other store with game filter, like gog, If itcho were the only online game store, I would find you right, but with other alternatives, I don't see the point of complaining.

Why you need to complain about itch don't have any type of barrier?

Here you find games or programs from people who participate in JAM, people who make their first game or create something totally different that will not fit in a commercial store and just want to share it. Complaining about all that, just because you have a game that you don't liked. To me, you sound like a spoiled child having a tantrum.

Fuck it, I guess I am an asshole.  I'm tired of people not having standards.

No, the games here aren't good.  I would never release such garbage that showcased who I was as a man and a developer (or lack thereof).  I don't understand why anyone would be proud of something so horrible.  I guess that's what 99.9% of the human race is about, game dev or not.

You also need to boost your reading comprehension.  I listed one game as an example, but was talking of many others.

I can see posting here is a lost cause.  Worst hour of my life.  Goodbye.
