If you're reading this, there's a good chance you enjoy Decker and would like to see it continue to flourish. There are many ways for users of all skill levels and areas of expertise to contribute to a vibrant ecosystem of diverse and wonderful creations:
Tell your friends about Decker! If you know someone who might enjoy it, please spread the word.
Share neat stuff you've made. Your work can spark creativity in others by showing them what's possible. Get experimental! Maybe you could build:
- A visual novel.
- An escape-the-room game.
- A random generator for storytelling or decision-making.
- An interactive recipe book.
- A greeting card for a friend.
- A board game.
- A calculator that automates one of your daily tasks.
- A "demake" or re-imagining of an existing website, tool, or piece of media you like.
- An interactive explanation of a topic you find interesting or meaningful.
Write a tutorial. Sometimes writing a step-by-step explanation of how to do something is a great way to improve your own understanding.
Record a stream or a video working with Decker, and show new audiences how easy Decker is to use! If you stream, make sure you save the VOD somewhere for posterity.
Make some new fonts for Decker, or adapt your favorite existing bitmapped fonts. Consider adding your work to the Decker Fonts repository maintained by 1jss.
Prepare a collection of clip art or background templates to help other creators make snazzier cards. You could store clip art as plain images for easy drag-and-drop importing or store them as a deck, for easy copying and pasting.
Write some tools! Whether they're made in Decker itself or entirely external, you could open up whole new possibilities for other Decker enthusiasts! Some ideas:
- A tool for converting existing fonts (TrueType or otherwise) into Decker-compatible fonts.
- A sound effect generator, perhaps something like sfxr.
Write some modules! Decker comes with several example modules (plot, zazz) that simplify complex tasks in Lil scripts. Here are a few ideas for new ones:
- A module that can convert data into a QR code and draw it on a canvas.
- A module for date/time manipulation.
- A module for unit conversion.
- A module with more fancy transition functions.
Build some contraptions! Contraptions are reusable "custom widgets" that can save time and radically extend the range of things users can build in Decker while writing little or no code. Here are a few ideas:
- Date or time pickers
- Color or pattern pickers
- Utilities like timers or unit converters
- Slide templates for presentations
- Board game elements like spinners or die rollers
- Decorative borders or resizable background elements
- Animated decorations
You're always welcome to share or link to your creations in this forum. If you're the kind of person who prefers Discord, there's also the #decker channel on the Fantasy Consoles Discord. (I'm not an admin on that server, but it seems friendly.) If you share your projects on itch.io or a social media website, please consider adding a "#decker" tag to help people find it!
