Jams are great occasions to learn. I'm wondering if you have any topic you would like to experiment with like coding, music, graphics and so on.
EDIT: Thank you for all the replies. I wish you the best!
I used to work with teams as an artist and learned to make music in FL Studio for 1 month in November, and I write stories as long as I can write. But I never made anything more than 'Hello world' on C+ x)
So when I heard of the jam I tried to learn something about Godot and Dialogic (and even made a little quest there), but my mind was going to explode, soooo I got RPG maker XP as it was free on Steam. And now I'm learning it and making a quest there with default graphics and music. When the jam will start, I'm going to make my own visual assets and music and make a nice game!
For this game jam, I am going to create a small 2D game engine using SDL/Raylib and develop a game with it! I'm not sure if I'll have enough time to complete both the engine and the game within two weeks. Let's see; I'm taking this as a challenge! Btw All the Best to everybody who is participating :D
A few things I'm thinking on learning:
- Game Design Doc, I really want to make it a point to write one at the start
- some 3d stuff, even if I have to use something like Kenny's assets or Mixamo
- If I end up going 2d, maybe microstudio.dev, then again Godot's workflow in 2d is really good, so not sure if I want do so.
It'll really depend on the theme and what ideas I come up with.
I'd like to get myself to do either
a) Some kinda 3D third-person action combat, even if it's SUPER basic
b) Mess with procedural level generation (which I technically did in my last game but I'd like to dive into full-on roguelite room-by-room stuff if possible)
Might be a little too ambitious and it's basically down to what feels right for the theme, but I've been off the game dev horse for a while and I really wanna use this opportunity as a chance to delve into something I've wanted to work with before.
