I was waiting for this one to show up in the top 10 stream, definitely deserved a spot imho

I had a bit of trouble figuring out how it worked at first. However once I did I made absurd amounts of money on level 2, bought every upgrade I could by rerolling repeatedly, and on level 3 my board looked like this:
Definitely some balancing issues, but it's a very neat and funny concept. A refined and expanded version would be superb.
I found out where Unity hides its error logs and took a peek, it says "The resource Internal-ErrorShader.shader could not be loaded from the resource file!" a few times along with a bunch of:
ERROR: SymGetSymFromAddr64, GetLastError: 'Attempt to access invalid address.' (Address: 00007FF94ED587DC) 0x00007FF94ED587DC (UnityPlayer) (function-name not available)
So yeah, no idea what's up with that. Happily (and mysteriously) the game worked just fine on my lappy :D
You definitely have something to be proud of with these shaders, this is by far the best looking game I've played in the jam. That warm palette and solarized (ha) style definitely deliver on the promise of a Sunset Simulator. Actually I found the conceit pretty hilarious; sunsets are considered such a special and ephemeral thing and our guy has so much FOMO he has to capture it every single time, going on daily murderous rampages against acorns and fish. Like, dude, it's not that dire. Gameplay is fairly simple but surprisingly addicting on account of excellent player feedback, props to your sound design. The risk-reward of the whole 'more chromatic aberration = more powerful attack' mechanic has a lot of potential, I think if you added more enemy types and played around with sightlines you'd have a mean experience on your hands. Also I found myself occasionally getting turned around a bit in the course of clearing a room, but that kinda just added to the trippiness lol. Overall great entry, glad I was able to play!
EDIT: Forgot to mention: the detail where the object name shows up when you take a picture is a great touch, I was endeared to learn the bench was called Cube (1)
Favorite lines in no particular order:
- "pOrToBeLLo"
- "Can i see your speaking hole?"
- "oH yUo mEaN mY gLoW uP"
- "In the end, you ate the whole plate"
Humorous, touching, and surprisingly unnerving. I enjoyed exploring the evil routes just to see what would happen. >:) Seriously though you did a good job making Portobello both pitiable and repulsive, in a way that's kind of uncomfortable to think about. Like I'd like to think I would be a little nicer than the protag to a little flesh ball that started growing in my basement...but would I? Really? Would I be able to accept his bulging eyes and weird talkhole, or even his decision to name himself something so ridiculous? The part where he creates a mouth to conform to your idea of normalcy is even more heartbreaking than I realized. :_; Bridging that gap seems difficult if I honestly think about it, but he deserves it. He deserves the world. I wish I could have let him see the sun.
For something put together in just two weeks I found unexpected depth and intimacy in it; I have mad respect for anyone who can pull that off. Phenomenal entry.
Quite rough but I admit I'm a fan. It would help to have more feedback on when exactly an enemy is hurting you, and the guy who blinds half your screen kinda crosses the line into unfun (although I may not have been utilizing my triple jump). I like the drums coming in on the music while you're in combat, it's a nice touch.
Hilarious writing, I appreciate the attention to detail that your wife has different lines depending on how soon you run away from her. The on-the-nose application of the theme was very cheeky :P
I've always been a big fan of photographed assets like this. Gives everything a very self aware retro flavor.
My game features light surreal horror elements: https://itch.io/jam/acerola-jam-0/rate/2581370
I look forward to checking out the other horror games that people have made
