Hi! I'm Em, and this is my entry for Alternative Soundtrack Jam #3, in which the prompt was to create an alternative soundtrack for the 'underground' level of the original Super Mario Bros game.
I wanted to find a way to blend my personal niches of sci-fi/fantasy tracks and the original chip-tune sound of the game. My goal was to create a mysterious and spacious underground ambiance that still had a sense of forward movement and tension for the plumber battling his way through.
I had a lot of fun creating this loop and I hope you enjoy it!

Great sound selection. It stays close to the theme while feeling modern. I like this alot. Great work!
Love the blend of textures. Love the perfect fourth motif playing throughout. Big fan of the section after 0:51. Nice work!
Sounds brilliant, very groovy and interesting structure-wise!!
thank you so much!! :)
Nice track, with lot of space to have this underground feeling ! Layers are well made, and good melodic ideas as well, blending well with each others. Nice job !
thank you so much!!!
A bit mysterious but groovy vibe, good stuff!
thank you!!
Nice I think it works well for the type of game and the mood of the level, especially the section at 0:49. Maybe its a bit too reverbery and not punchy enough for a mario.
thank you so much for your feedback!!
Good sound choices, and very true to the theme, adding a layer of mystery and danger. Solid entry, good job!
thank you so much!! :)
I love the blend of chiptune and futuristic synths! The staggered introduction of the new instruments kept the music sounding interesting throughout the piece. I could really see this being in a modern 3D remake of the game!
On the first listen it felt like it ended really abruptly, but after listening a couple of times the ending felt interesting (especially if it loops). Well done!
thank you so much !! i agree the ending sounds less abrupt in my DAW when its looping then it ends up sounding when I exported it :)
Interesting blend like you described, I can really feel the mix of sci-fi and 8bit. Cool structure, enjoyed listening.
thank you sm!!
