So cool visual!

Developer

Thanks Shad90 :D

Very nice! The intro was really cool and immersive. The whole 3D effect really works well and feels futuristic because of the music and the hologram and digital because of the pixels ;).

While typing this, I was thinking, why not make this an endless game with random autospawning of enemies instead? As this will be more in line with your tagline of "noone escapes the nanon"? Sorry if this is random or not related, just my 2 cents ;) Thanks for the game!

A good point Freshfries - This game is going to get expanded over time and for sure I want include an endless arcade mode.
In the (eventual) full game you're a cat person playing the Nanon game on a Headset. Each time you play, objects of your surrounding life somehow enter the game until (d,d,dum) you realize you're already IN THE NANON.

Ooh, nice, sounds exciting! All the best with development!

Is that sprite stacking? If so, I don't think I've ever seen sprite stacking used quite like that. I dig the aesthetic. The collisions seem a little on the unforgiving side, but flying through the city feels really good.

Developer

Hi Mushroomstick - yes sprite stacking. The terrain is somewhere in between stacking & scaled parallax.
The collisions I'd like to tighten up in future versions - the depth axis is stretched for collisions to make up for the difficulty in perception of where your ship is exactly. However, I'll make it forgiving only for good things (collecting pickups, bullets hitting enemies).
Thanks for playing :D

Cool 3d idea, cool visuals! beautiful style, cool soundtrack. great work!

Love the graphical style - nailed it! - and excellent faux 3D that just moves just right - very clever!

Fast, smooth blaster, and I had a lot of fun with this one!  :)

Liked the music too!

Thanks very much Japster's Cavern

Ahhhh, now this gets the whole "neon future" aesthetic just right!

Thanks Priomblazer - highly inspired by Bladerunner

Wow this is mesmerizing!! Very pretty graphics! The perspective is cool, I've never played anything like it before. Well done!!

Thanks Moonrisen
The gameplay is partly inspired by I, Robot:

Woah I, Robot is wild! Surprised I've never seen it before. That giant eyeball xD

Cool, beautiful game! Playing in Normal Mode.

You need to get used to navigating in space in order to safely fly through buildings. I think it's not even necessary to shoot here:

  • first attempt: shot (it's funny that you can destroy your own charges), lost;
  • second attempt: did not shoot, but simply calmly dodged the bullets and passed.

I'll try Super Hard Mode later.

Normal - seemed like a meditative game to me =)

Good luck in development, I will follow =)

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you discovered this zen way to get through. I also noticed after some time that's it's much easier to only shoot when you need to (there's no scoring anyway).  I'd like to make more levels that are more about the meditative aspect :D

Nicely done visuals. If I were to make any tweaks I would make the gems give back more energy, and I would make the enemy hits take energy away rather than insta-kill me. I think you got an excellent game here that would be great if it weren't so punishing. Loved the music too. Well done!!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks Pixel-Team. After much contemplation, it's true - the bullets shouldn't insta-kill, only crashing into ships should. And yes, in a future version it would be more rewarding when you catch a trail of gems if they have more value. Thanks for you help.

Good game, great visuals.

I believe it would be better with some adjustments to the collisions, keep up the great work :)

Developer(+1)

Thankyou Luis8 - for sure I'll need to tighten up collisions in future versions. Thanks for trying it out.

this is so rad - it's like I'm in a dream - I can't wait to crank up the projector and get a full sensory lift off - these crafters are solidly in love with the genre - real deal :)

Developer

Thankyou very much Shape Creative!

This is beautiful! Both the visuals and the music/sfx.
The gameplay is good though aiming was a bit hard at times. It's not always very clear where the spaceship is.
Other than that though, an absolutely great game!

Developer

Thanks WiseBart -
It's true about the ship position, I'm trying to find ways to make it clearer where you are in 3d-ness. Watching the shadows helps!

Wowww this is absolutely one of my favourite games I have played in this jam! The visuals are absolutely stunning and the music goes so well with it. It reminds me in the best way of sayonara wildhearts. The changing visuals that go with the music, and the fun I have flying around collecting coins! It's really absolutely stunning. I enjoyed the text to give some context and it really set the mood for my experience when playing it. I loved how chill it was and everything was just so gorgeous. The enemy fire looked great too. I really wish I had more to say but I don't because everything was just such a good experience that I don't have much more feedback to give. But a really really fantastic jam entry!

Thanks happysquared
Much appreciated!
I really enjoyed your game also.

Super cool use of those stacked 2D sprites to create a 3D effect running through the whole game. Nice music, although the sound effects overpower in places.

At times it was hard to get my ship in the right place because of the perspective. And those flashy death particles could definitely trigger a bad reaction in photosensitive people - so it'd be nice to make them a little more comfortable to make the game more inclusive.

Developer

Thanks Chequered Ink -
Yes, true about all those points.  For a future release I might tone down the horizontal space, the further you go from the center the more "pseudo" the 3d is.

Loving the aesthetics of this
