This is a really original idea, and I love the art style! It definitely felt hectic, as intended.

THANK YOU ❤️!

As the lead artist I am very happy that you liked the art style. I went for a more cozy/cartoony style for this jam, in contrast to the more serious theme of the game (preventing sheep genocide). We (I) didn't put enough time into fully embrace this theme, but I am still happy with how it turned out  :)

For the game design itself (to embrace said theme) we had a bunch of *stuff* planned, but we ended up with an amalgamation of it (or else it wouldn't have been up & running in time for the deadline).

Ye, I am really happy to hear you liked our game  :)

Very pretty and fun to play! It was a really nice idea with a great execution. I loved the 2.5d artstyle and how good it played. Awesome entry ^u^

Developer

Big thanks!)

I thought of the exact same idea for the jam XD. Thought it would be too much to cover. Glad you made this!

Developer(+1)

It was hard. And we remade only bark logic around seven times....

The art, lighting, interactions with the shepherd, etc are really great.

I guess the whole thing felt slightly depressing. I'm having a hard time coping with the seemingly unavoidable losses of up to half of my flock.

I'm also seeing a crash, which seems to be the same crash as SecretPocketCat. I'm playing in chrome on macos, but this isn't looking like a platform-specific crash to me.

Yep, it's not platform specific bug. I forgot to check entity existing in one system.... Anyway, big thanks to your reply! And good luck to the bevy jam!

I tried again, this time a native build on windows and lasted thru most of the night, but then got a crash again. So I retried and got a crash almost immediately 🙁

The artstyle is super cute. I considered making a herding game too, but wasn't sure how to actually make it interesting and this is a nice take. I quite like the stamina system esp. when coupled with the strong bark, though I feel that it might be too lenient and there could actually be less stamina or it could recharge slower. Also, it probably should not drain stamina when the player is holding shift but not moving or barking.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. The problem is due to the fact that I don't check the existence of the entity saved in the field component (specifically at the moment when the dog scares the wolves), and at some rare system ordering the field with the entity is not cleaned in time. Unfortunately I can't upload a bug fix, glad you enjoyed the game while it worked.

Really well made game! I just love the graphics and the gameplay is fun too.

Developer

Woof!:)

The game crashed on me 2 mins before the end. I think I'm gonna add this to my 'run native on a VM' pile 😅

Here's the panic BTW.

Uh-oh. T_T I fixed a similar bug right before I uploaded the game. Did you run the game on windows or mac os? Hope you enjoyed the game, well, while it was running 😅

Submitted

WASM, but based on the `Attempting to create an EntityCommands for entity 5155v0, which doesn't exist.` I'd assume this can happen on every platform (unless there's some conditional compilation).

Developer

The only difference could theoretically be the mac OS. Thanks for the bug report!

Really liked it, looks great, plays well, didn't have time to play MORE - I might get back to it later to give it another go. Top marks!

Developer

Thanks very much ^_^

It would be better if there was some visual guidance on the direction when the sheep ran away, because the field of view is a bit limited. BTW, It is impossible to save all the sheep at night. As the master, you shouldn’t just light the lamp, but also show some vampire abilities. XD

Developer

He is a very lazy vampire who has retired from big politics and only wants to sleep. xD Thanks for the review!

Submitted(+1)

I love the aesthetic, nice work with the lighting. My only suggestion is adding a visual/audio cue when the message at the top changes.. I think a couple times I didn't realize it had changed.

Also, real talk this shepard needs to build a fence. Also, he's a vampire that's out during the day? 🤔

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for playing! The sound indication idea is cool. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to write code for the vampire's abilities, nor did we have time to draw a canopy for the vampire shepherd to hide under during the day. We also planned, but also didn't have time, to add mass sacrifices of sheep on the pentagram, hiding sheep from mass migrations of bats, and bringing sheep to feed the vampire. The week went by too fast 🥲

Really fun game, and the art is adorable too

Playing as a sheepdog is quite hectic :)

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank for playing!)  Hopefully the game is hectic at the right level and my dozens of playtests and refactorings were not in vain xDD

Submitted(+1)

Absolutely! Your efforts definitely paid off

The artstyle makes my heart melt. All the little sheep are sooo cute (and feisty! are these secretly goats?).

Show the wolves who is boss, doggo!

Developer

Happy to hear that!

I went for a more cartoony/cute look for this jam,   And I'm hoping to take that even further for the next one!

There were a bunch of features we just didn't have time to implement, so I'm hoping we release a post-jam build. Or just continue on the game in general (but you never know).
We even planned to have a boss fight at the end, (either against the vampire/wolves or the sheep themselves).

The sheep were initially designed as goats in the testing stage, but after adding a new designs the horns were gone. Then after that design got an outline, I had to add the horns back for better readability. I guess you could call them sheep-goats :)

5 fps on my machine :( I like the art direction and the concept seem fun and original though

Developer (1 edit)

Oh. Can you try native version? T_T

Submitted(+1)

Very fun game, I like the visuals - I lost so many sheep though 😭

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks ^_^
