Awesome strategy game! It would be nice to have some brief onboarding tutorial before starting the game like action/path the user can take, and how to interact with the UI.
Thanks for playing! I’m glad u enjoyed the game. Yes we are definitely planning on getting a tutorial into the game haha.
The game was pretty and pretty enjoyable.
Some minor points: I do wish there was some more information about what each of the buildings did. The Houses give you more population which adds up to more gold but it wasn't clear what the tavern, and blacksmith do. Also the merchant does not seem to work for me. I have more than 10 gold and wanted to buy a mid-range weapon and nothing seemed to happen
The tavern can be used to recruit new units and buy upgrades. Clicking on the building on the map brings up a window with all the options.
The more expensive houses are just more expensive (as far a I remember). The blacksmith does nothing, it was meant to provide armour items like boots, shield, helmet, platemail etc that would provide extra bonuses but we didn't have time to implement it and we ran out of time even to remove it before the deadline.
As an additional note, the weapon for now can only be bought when you have a character unit selected on the left hand side.
Nicely implemented strategy game! It reminds me a lot of some other game I played ages ago, but I can’t put my finger on it.
The base implementation is solid, I’d just love some more variety on top like the buildings having actual differences, like the tower shooting stuff or a way to recruit new warriors or have archers.
It’s very possible that the shop already supports this or there is a hidden UI for these things, but I quickly fell into a cycle of surviving a night -> spending all money on the lost buildings -> repeat, which left me without any money to play around with in the shop. Except once where I tried to buy a sword, but it didn’t let me? Maybe I needed the blacksmith first? A bit more in-game UI and guidance would be good, I guess :)
Anyways, what I was able to play was very competently implemented, so good job!
The idea was "Into the Breach" with Castlevania style items and characters. It was too ambitious for one week though, I hadn't done any game dev in over a year and I had no idea what the best way to implement a turn based game in bevy would be. We used sickle ui which I wasn't familiar with either and I kind of struggled with. We had a lot of things that were almost implemented but we had to abandon as we just ran out of time.
The tower was meant to be able to shoot in four directions but didn't have time to implement it (or remove it before we published) , you can recruit new units if you build a tavern, blacksmith does nothing and is just a waste of gold. I wish we'd had time to implement tooltips and stuff.
That makes sense! Yeah, AFAIK there is no consensus yet on how to do turn-based in Bevy. There’s an open issue for that to come up with an example, but so far, no one has tackled that yet
Cute, reminds me of some mobile games like Polytopia. The instructions weren’t clear on how to use the interface, but it was pleasing to click and place a house. I could not progress after hitting end turn.
Hi there, Alex from the art team here.
First off, thanks for the support on being interested for this game. (this means my art is nice heheh) And yes, the game can be confusing even for me when I played for the first time and the description is kinda unclear on the actions too. So, I'll be adding instructions on how to play based on my experience.
1) During day phase, you can only build buildings and buy items from the shop.
2) Buying buildings = more human population = more money generation.
3) End turn multiple times to allow the buildings to finish building and end day phase
4) During night phase, click on the warriors to deploy. Changing places is allowed at this time.
5) After starting the fighting phase, you can choose to move and attack once for each warrior. There is no order on which should be done first.
6) Selecting a warrior will show the places that he can move to. Be careful that you can't change places after placing them to a spot during that turn.
7) Select a weapon and select an enemy to deal damage to it. Some weapons deal more damage and have a wider range
8) Protect the houses! The game ends if you lose all of them. But the warriors will respawn with one health after going through a day phase.
9) The cycle continues...
Hope you enjoy the game after understanding the basics of this game! Pro tip: attack before moving allows dodging ;)
I wasn't able to play either

Help I don't understand how the game works >.< I built a house or a few, press "end turn", "people"? counter drops to 0/25, night comes, i select the item and the enemy and nothing happens at all. It looks really cool and I would like to continue playing, what should I do?

Addition answer to your question, the population showing zero is a bug, but it doesn't affect the gold from generating.
with your tutorial and some clicking around, it worked and I got reasonably far! Fighting is a bit confusing but all in all really fun Idea and I love the design of the monsters!
Glad you like it!
