How does your game represent Mode?
We used the word's definition in statistics of "the most common value in a set of data." In Spacers Please, you have to pick out 'ion readings' as well as the location of the rebel base from a collection of random data over the course of the game. These values come up more often than the others, but you can never be totally sure until you've seen the entire data set.

Cool game, I appreciate any game that lets me be a bad guy. Had a great time snitching on rebel insurgents. Great job!

Aw, man! This is such a cool idea for a game! I love finding those rebel scum! Although, at the end my true allegiance was put into question because of my failure to find them all. XD

Only feedback I have is that it takes a little long to scan ships, which made the game feel like I didn't have enough time to really analyze them. But maybe scanning is supposed to be super powerful and risky to use and your main method of telling if they're scum is by checking their ion signature? Either way I love the idea of this game and you did a great job!

Developer

Agreed! The intention was for the player to look at the ion readings while waiting for the scan, but we really didn't make it clear that was how the mechanics worked.

Ohhh! I thought you couldn't look at ion readings while waiting for the scan. That would make way more sense!

I got the gist of it but I wish there was a more in depth tutorial. Are you thinking of continuing this? Cause it looks good.

Developer

I agree, the game definitely could've benefited from a more gradual start, oops! We came up with a handful of ideas on how to expand this... so we'll see!

Very cool game! The mood and atmosphere are top notch, and the voice acting is great. This is by far the best "mathematical mode" take on the theme. I'd love to buy an expanded version of this where, similar to Papers, you get to see the consequences of your actions play out over time and affect different planets and factions.

The whole concept of learning how to spot smuggler ships, building a mental database of ships/models/stats over time, and having to make tough moral choices, is very appealing. Looking forward to see more of this one, and/or whatever you create next! Great work.

Glad you liked it! We definitely had plenty of ideas for how to expand this to add arching storylines and more of a social interrogation angle on top of the raw ship data. Someday!

Love the papers please rendition, great concept twist, had fun playing!

Great design and presentation

I feel like there simply isn't enough time to cycle through all the information for the ships, but maybe I was just too slow. Great game otherwise.

Developer

The game could definitely afford to be slowed down a little! We got a little too comfortable with the mechanics and didn't playtest enough with fresh players.

Maybe I'm not incompetent. Maybe I am a rebel. Who can be sure?? For a game I was quite terrible at, this one was really fun. Loved the art, super simple and really cohesive. Great entry!

A great entry reminiscent of "Papers, Please", but still unique and original in its own way! Limited in view and control, yet still engaging. Really great sound design, too - even comes with voice acting!

Can be overwhelming at first, when you're not used to the interface and still need to get "into the loop". For this it would've been great, if there weren't as many ships flying immediately after the first post-tutorial stage, so the player could have one more opportunity to get used to the loop. I also think the scantime could be reduced a bit.

Other than that, a brilliant entry!

Developer

Thanks! Definitely agreed that we needed to have a slower start to ease players into it. The perils of not playtesting with fresh players, haha.

Fantastic submission! I loved the aesthetic, and the voice acting was an unexpected but very welcome addition. It felt like a game I could continue to play for hours once you get into the swing of it, great job.
