How does your game represent Mode?
Context Catacombs is a first person dungeon-delver where you can switch between 3D and text-based mode at any time. You can solve puzzles, explore, and loot the dungeon in either mode, but they both have unique advantages!

Whenever i switch to 3D mode, the screen is entirely white. Is that because I use MacOS?

This was so incredibly fun, I love how after the text based adventure at the start, the first person view lets you observe your sorroundings- such a cool concept and so well executed , it was used again to great effect when you find the lamp underground. My one annoyance was that you ended up needing the torch to work out the painting puzzle as the tree was in the shape of a 7 (I guess someone smarter than me could've worked out the tree was a 7 without the torch but I was ~stumped~. Although difficult, the painting room was very fun to solve and the dragon at the end, with the ominous music and the way you see its fangs first- such a cool ending and a creative twist to finish, thanks heaps!

Yo someone help me I cannot figure out the art puzzle 😭😭😭

I couldn't work out the noble lady portrait but the landscape has a tree in the shape of a 7 (lone branch off the top of a right skewed trunk), which can be seen using the lamp.  the bird was obviously chirping 8 times, and the scroll had no text (nothing) as well as an oval shape behind it- meaning the number 0. The lady I 'trial and errored' but I guess the 4 vanilla beans has something to do with her protruding wrists, someone else will have to explain that

SPOILERS:

Her protruding wrist was a hint to smell the painting. She's presenting her perfume which smells of vanilla.

This was fun and very creative concept.

This game rules! So many clever uses of the game's systems packed into this, every sequence is memorable and inspiring. Great idea, amazing execution. Didn't play it until now but this instantly became my favorite game to come out of this jam <3

Watched this from dunkey’s stream and went to experience the rest of the game myself. The design of text-adventure mode and 3D mode is such a lovely and elegant concept. The minimalist and haunting design of the 3D mode to match the silent and eerie feeling of text adventures works incredibly well. The puzzles are very clever to take advantage of this mechanic as well, especially the art room puzzle. One of my top recommendations from this jam!

Love this entry, one of the coolest ideas in the jam with awesome execution. This scratches such a specific itch I didn't know I had, imagining a room from the descriptions of a text based game then being able to freely explore that room and compare it to my imagination. Fantastic work!

This is pretty much perfect to me, it's such a cool idea and you've executed it so flawlessly. The artstyle and tone all feel perfect, and the puzzles are a genuine delight to solve. Amazing work.

most goated use of the theme well done

Masterfully executed game! I feel like your team made so many smart game design decisions. The black and white aesthetic really fits the genre. The areas were simple enough that I never felt completely lost in direction too. Like many others, it did take me a minute to figure out the lockbox puzzle but with time I got it. Super work!

I loved the shader you used! Very fitting. This is a really unique take on the theme and well executed. Both modes were absolutely essential and the vibe in the game was awesome. Excellent use of the music and sounds.

WOW this is so cool. My favorite thing ever in games is when you as the player want to do something and the game anticipates that and lets you do it. The first time you switch modes in this game is exactly what I was thinking would be the coolest possible thing at that moment and it blew my mind. I'm still exploring and having a blast but had to come leave a comment before that impressive moment of discovery wore off (I didn't read the description or see the screenshots before playing so it really got me, I thought this was a pure text adventure). This is insanely smartly made and is a perfect twist on the classic text adventure genre. (Also any game where you can smell anything you want to and it actually gives interesting results is already a 10/10 in my book)

Edit: I just beat the game, I had to get lucky in the gallery but once I got the right numbers I understood how each artwork related to the numbers that ultimately solved the puzzle. Truly stellar game!

Looking like my favourite game of the jam so far! Lost me a few times just feeling around walls, but the concept is awesome and crucially links to the gameplay so well. Amazing !!!

This is, hands down, incredibly cool. Hybrid genres like this are awesome, but hard to implement well. This was implemented well. Keep up the good work!

This is really cool, what a unique idea! Great job.

Beautiful idea and aesthetic! I could not figure out the lockbox but the amount of work that must have gone into this is stunning. If you are expanding this post jam, one small wish is an autocomplete for the text section.

Masterpiece. 5/5 on everything

omg this was incredible. i can barely even process the work that would’ve had to go into writing a whole text adventure in two and a half weeks - but then this ALSO has all of those text adventure scenes fully modelled in the sickest, most aptly genre-fitting art style known to man??? i barely even know what to say!! i adored being able to walk around my environment, switch over to text mode, and read some of the most beautiful descriptions of that very same room. most of the puzzles themselves were pretty straightforward - i had a little difficulty with the gallery puzzle in particular, but it felt amazing once it finally clicked. just stellar work, wow!!!

Extremely original idea, executed in a way that actually makes sense and manages to fit the theme of the jam as well. Using the darkness of the room to force the use of the text mode was brilliant, and the puzzles were mostly very intuitive without being overly simple.  Excellent work here, I'd love to see a larger scale game with this concept, one of my absolute favorites to come out of the jam.
