I streamed it here for my thoughts of your game. I liked the binding of issac clone you made! The heart throwing mechanic was solid, and you fit the theme very well. Very nice work overall!

Awesome game! The way you implemented the concept of trading health for damage was really unique and well done. The enemy variety was also really nice and kept the game fresh. One suggestion I have is the barrels made the hearts difficult to collect again as the bounced unpredictably, that may have been an intentional design choice though which is fair. Overall great game, I had a lot of fun!

Developer

Thanks for liking it! Yeah, the bouncing behavior is both intended and buggy. I'll revisit it after the jam if I want to keep implementing it.

Hello.

I have some feedback for your game.
What I liked:

- The graphics of the game.

- The tutorial.

- The music.

What I did not like/think could improve:

- The SFXs. Seriously,  every one of them are super annoying. ( The only exception is picking up a heart )

    - The heart system.

Part one  - Regenerating Health: From what I could understand: if you lose a heart in one room it appears there on the next runs. Besides that a "demon" appears in the rooms you died and it gives on health. I wish it'd just be a normal hearts system, as this makes later rooms really hard ( as it takes more time to get there ). I wish it'd just be a normal heart system or a system that you can buy health every couple of rooms.

Part Two: Dealing Damage: I found it really interesting how hearts are your Ammo. However, what I did not like is that the hearts are too fast and take only 5 bounces to despawn. Additionally, some of the objects in the room make the heart bounce in some weird and unpredictable ways, making the loss of some hearts feel unfair. I wish hearts would be either slower or they'd take more bounces to despawn.

- The way you aim. I do not like needing to press a certain key to shoot in a certain direction. Just let me use my mouse ( or at least have the option to use the mouse ) to shoot.

Overall good game:

Thanks a lot for such a detailed comments. Yeah the sfx is not very good I have to admit. For the heart system, you are right about the demon(and thanks for noticing it!),  it is kind of a reward for those who play this game more than once. Also the heart generates randomly in each room, so it is not based on if you lose one before or not. I'm curious what is the normal heart system you mentioned? And yes we were plan to have some ability to regenerate your health, but we didn't have time to add it...

About the random bouncing...  yeah it is a bug. I haven't figured out how to fix that, might be some misconfiguration in the physics system. Also planned to have an ability to slow down/make heart stay longer, but no time to work on the whole ability system.

Agree with the mouse thing. the current input is more like a salute to The Binding of Isasc. Will consider changing it to mouse shoot if I'll keep developing it/make some similar games later.

Again thanks for playing it and leave such a good comment.

Hello.

Thanks for replying.

The part in bold collapses with this being a game jam game: "For the heart system, you are right about the demon(and thanks for noticing it!),  it is kind of a reward for those who play this game more than once"

It takes me about 10-20 minutes to play and rate each game while also trying to notice the flaws. Then, another 5-15 to write the comments.

I'm pretty sure I'm one of the people that takes the most time on each game. From what I heard, most people just play for 5-10 minutes and not even write a comment. I'm pretty sure you can understand how the part in bold collapses with this being a game jam game.

Regarding the "Also the heart generates randomly in each room, so it is not based on if you lose one before or not", do you mean randomly like actually random or there is a chance that each heart you lost regenerates on the next runs? If you mean actually random, you probably should add a system that checks how many consecutive rooms/days the player did not get a heart and increase the chance of the player getting hearts on that room, as I did not find a single heart on later rooms ( maybe I'm just unlucky ).

Thanks again for replying and playing my game.

That was really fun! I like the idea too, it's very innovative. I like how you made the hearts bounce, having one heart bounce to hit an enemy multiple times is very satisfying. I think there should be a short invulnerability window at the start of a level though, as sometimes you can get hit instantly by an enemy or a projectile when you spawn.

Developer

Thanks for liking it! Glad you like the bouncing 'cause I enjoy it too! I Will think about the invulnerable window for sure, that's a very useful suggestion.

Great gameplay and art! The mechanics are great as well. Very polished game. This game has something common with the game which calls The Binding of Isaac. I really, really like this game. Good job!!!

P.S.

Maybe you will make all rooms dark it will be really interesting to play ;)

Please check my game as well ;)

Really cool Idea!! I love the artwork too!

A really cool idea to make a sort of Binding of Isaac game but joggling only with one ressource! The gameplay is fun and challenging as well

THEME: I like your take on the theme.

VISUALS: Simple but good.

INNOVATION: It is very similar to binding of Isaac but there aren't many other games like it.

SOUNDS: Good, I really liked the level over SFX.

MUSIC: Really good and simple.

DESIGN: I wish there was a way to switch WASD and arrows because I'm used to using  arrow keys to move it took more time for me to play well. I also liked the tutorial room. I also liked how many enemies there are.

OVERALL: Really good game!

P.S. I found a bug where the fly guy can sometimes walk on the walls.

So it’s binding of Isaac, and I’m a huge fan of this game, but with this simple but smart and great idea. I really enjoyed playing!

Really interesting concept, loved the inspiration from binding of isaac! I'd appreciate if you checked out and maybe rated my game as well (:

I see the inspiration in biding of isaac. I like the mechanic throwing your heart but for me it does not go well with the theme. Boucing off the walls is great but sometimes I could not catch a heart (it bounced off me). I really liked the tutorial screen and different kinds of monsters - the farting boy was funny. I have to point out the music, it went well with the game and it was great to listen to it repeatadly. Overall a great submission!

Developer

Thanks! When we designed the game, the life can also be used to purchase items which hopefully can fit with the theme more. But we didn't get time to finish it :(  . The bouncing heart is a bug I haven't figured out how to fix for days, I might need more understand in Unity's physics engine. Thanks for playing it!

I liked it - I think the your life is your attack thing is a really good mechanic.
