How does your game fit the theme?
A storm brews in the distance, kicking up high winds for your paper airplane to fly through the air. If you play long enough, you may find another reason to see why the game is a calm (before the storm) 😉

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
All code written by me, assets which I did not make have been fully credited to the maker's requests.

Love the uniqueness of unlocking manual mode, that stick to the theme

Developer

Thanks for checking it out!!

Great sound work! :) It was funny how long it took me to realize the plane was flying by itself at the end. Well done!

It took me a bit to notice that the plane flew by it self lol, when the audio and red planes are gone I still keep pressing the button and only noticed moments before the audio clue plays XD. I do find that manual off mode to be pretty cool, the plane moving by it self would make for a good main menu screen background.

I also like the color palette of the game & for quality of live improvement I would like as a player:
- A retry button so that the player won't need to go back to the main menu & have to select the plane again(2 less button to navigate).

- Some sort of way to keep track of how far you have gone/performance like for example score from collectible, distance travelled, or time spent.

Good job on the game! and the trolling too!

hey thanks for playing and for the thoughts! sounds like you had the intended experience of the game hahaha (sorry about the trolling). Lots of great input - I appreciate your time

Flappy bird ala wind

Welp. Its a game that plays itself. Very funny idea but pretty bold for a game jam regardless lolol. Great sound effects though. Caught me off guard the first time. Cool project!

The movement was really nice, The graphics and sound are good too, I did need a scoring system, but I am sure it is coming in the future. Nice work!

Well this is first game I ever play it plays by itself :)

I would really like to know if you made this logic or is from some asset? If you made it, then is very impresive, but questions is why completely let plane navigate alone? It coud be great that if you manage something before walls to collect, then game assist you, but if you didn't, you are all by yourself to make pass through. It is pretty, fun and if this is your first game, really great job!

Just one question, I let game for 15-20 minutes to play and have not seen that special mode you described here:  "Survive as long as you can; and if you survive long enough, a special game mode is unlocked". How to get to that special mode?

Developer(+1)

Hey hey - thanks for playing! :) If you made it past 10 minutes, you should have gotten an audio cue to return to the main menu. Once you've survived that long, there's a gold star in the top right corner to toggle "manual mode" where the autopilot is turned off. (going to change that to 5 minutes)

As to the why: I'm a bit of a troll haha. I have been really treating making games as a bit of an experiment. Here it's like 'what does a game look like that doesn't need the player to play? How does it feel to play a game that later you realize you never had full control of?' And yes, I made the autopilot myself! Turns out it's easy to make something look 'smart' when it is in fact not all that smart hahah

TLDR: Art School has (endearingly) ruined me. haha

Neat game. The wind sounds cracked me up, I did something similar in my last game jam submission. The aim assist is really high, I know you said "it practically plays itself" but I don't even have to touch the keyboard. Overall nice work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Yes, it's totally meant to fully play itself, but didn't want to telegraph it to new players. So I went for a subtle nod haha. I've been making games that all have some experimental question at their core, like "what does a game that doesn't need a player look like?" in this case. This is just the latest installment in my shenanigans lol. Glad you liked the wind sounds! hahaha

really cool game! i think the autocontrol was kinda of heavy, i'd love a more challenging version of the game!

Developer

If you let it run long enough, you unlock a fully manual mode ;) Thanks for checking it out!

Submitted(+1)

very nice idea! like flappy bird but relaxing. and the wind sound amaizing! great job!

Developer

hahaha thanks! Had a good time making the wind lol. Thanks for playing

Lots of fun :) the paper planes remind me of the ones from Paper Mario TTYD. The assist was also helpful, it would be cool if the amount of assist applied changed as you progressed. Great submission!

Developer

Ah yeah I thought about slowly changing it! But I opted to make a sort of 'achievement' where if you fly long enough you unlock a fully manual mode :D Thanks for playing!

ASMR flappy bird 10/10. :)

I think you may have made the auto drive a little intense, even for a jam setting. It took me a couple of seconds, but I realized I could just watch the game, really, lol. That may have been the intent, though; I appreciate the visual aesthetic and the way you incorporated the theme; good job!

Developer

Bahahaha yeah the controls get kind of locked up when they're at the max angle (45 degrees up or down) - def needs some adjusting to hide better. The goal is that you don't notice right away :) Thanks for playing and for the comment!

Submitted(+1)

I really like the controls

Developer

Hmm I wonder if you found the secret of the game :) *ahem* I mean nothing. Thanks for checking it out!

I wish W would move you up and S down otherwise great game

Developer (1 edit)

On the title screen you can pick between the two planes - one of them does have that control scheme! Thanks for playing :)
