How does your game fit the theme?
Wizards fight in the sky (literal storm), each staring and waiting for the perfect moment to strike as tension rises (metaphorical storm)

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Background sprites drawn by my partner, and music was open license. Everything else was made by me.

fun game, took me a while to understand what to do

Very hype duel!

One button games are always really cool to see how you can make something so simple engaging and you have done a great job with it here! I personally didn't find much difference between the wizards as I just used a strategy of watching a specific spot on the screen and releasing when the wizard hit that spot, which carried me through the game. But the art was great and the animations were great, I even managed to both win and lose at the same time which looked really cool! Great work!

Cool graphics but the gameplay is a bit unclear to me, did everything but kept dying :(

Developer

it only gives you about half a second to react after the other wizard starts their attack animation, so it can be pretty hard! I couldn't even beat it for a while

What I liked: Interesting mechanics and well-made AI, also really liked the pixel art

What I would change: I think the game has no obvious flaws, I liked it

The incredible power of WIZARD radiates off of this game.

A simple core mechanic that creates surprisingly engaging gameplay. Very impressive considering the time constraints.

The wizards and explosions and the environment is wonderful, I feel fired up playing it! Love the visuals!!

I love the all the wizards! The art style and audio is amazing and immersive. Needing to counter your wizard opponent is a great idea, though I was really bad at it at first. Great submission to the jam!

Soon I will become the most powerful wizard of them all. I love the wizard explosion animations lol.

CLARIFICATION because I didn't describe it very well, the object of the game is to wait until the other wizard tries to attack you and counterattack as quickly as possible. Holding down the button plays a charge animation and has a chance to taunt them but it is not required to attack successfully.

Nice art!

I like the style and music,  could have used some in-game indications of what to do as it was a bit frustrating figure it out through trial and error. Overall nice job!

Developer

yeah sorry lol, I put the instructions in the description because I didn't want to make the menu more complicated

It took me a second to know when to attack, interesting game mechanic and art style good job

Loved the art style and appreciate the amount of work put into all the animations and designs. Though I really could not figure out when to release the spell, spent about 6 minutes trying, guess and randomly releasing the spell with no luck. It could seriously be a skill issue on my end but I wished there was a little bit for feedback on what I am doing wrong.

It should work if you release when the other wizard starts moving back and upwards at the start of their attack. Currently its set so they should all attack within about 40 seconds.

Maybe I described it weirdly, but there's  no charge up period so you can also just click when you see the attack coming. Let me know if it works! You should have 0.6 seconds to react, ramping down to 0.4.
