In what way does your game fit the theme?
You need to catch the three fish in a level and go back to your house while avoiding horrors that try to eat you to finish a level. When you get the third fish you gain a huge speed boost and

SPOILER
you can destroy the horrors.

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
I did all my code and my assets this week with the exception of the whale drawing in the background. I drew it 2 years ago and thought it was a good match.

Sfxr: sound effects

The game had a unique underwater feel which worked very well. The use of the theme felt a little underwhelming due to only getting the effect of getting stronger after collecting 3 fish. This made it feel like there was no progression for the player until the final moment. The big spooky fish was also neat but was typically easy enough to avoid. The hardest part of the game was the level design was pretty confusing at times, especially when you swim out of bounds. The concept was cool, and not many people think of making an underwater game but you pulled off the controls really well for it.

More thoughts of the game could be found here:

Thank you :D I looked at the video ^^ I will try and add landmarks, that's a very good idea. The big fish is easy to avoid in the level you did but it gets more tense in the level 4, 6, 7 and 8. I usually do games that are way too difficult so I tried to make it accessible. The out of bound problem is getting fixed and probably will be, in the post jam update. For the progression feel however, I have ideas but they are way too ambitious so I'm not going to try and fix it for now. Loved your review ^^ It gave me plenty to think about ^^

I'm glad it helped out! It was a cool game and I liked the visuals. Some of the more unique visuals I have seen in this jam so far, so nice work on that!

Developer (1 edit)

Hi ^^ I updated the border to be more visual than before if you want to try again ^^ And you missed a lot of cool stuff by stopping at the third level :)

Very good game! I liked it alot, swimming around and avoiding the horrors felt very nice.  Though, maybe when your moving out the stage, you could have an indicator you're going too far?

Developer

Thank you ^^ I will try to add an indicator ^^

Developer (1 edit)

I added a proper border if you want to try again ^^

Amazing game good sound design and good gameplay.

I don't know how you can make a game so chilled and yet so terrifying at the same time. Those demented teeth things are horrifying haha but the little glowing whales in the background as lovely. There were some really nice touches here, and the way you used audio and lighting gave it a really great feel. Lots of content too!

The bobbing of the sprites were nice too!

Developer(+1)

Thank you :D Actually the base rythm of the music is somewhat similar to the music of Jaws x) But I modified a lot of stuff ^^

Developer (1 edit)

I made an update if you want to try again ^^

Amazing game good sound design and good gameplay. Maybe improve the graphics like the sprites for the player. 👍

Developer

Thank you ^^

Developer

I made an update but it's only centered around the border ^^

Interesting game, fits the theme. Graphics can be improved a bit. Movement feels really good. It is great that you have audio (most people don't add audio because of the time restriction). It is cool how enemies are hidden until you get near them. Good job!

Developer

Thank you ^^ What would you improve in the graphics? ^^

Submitted

maybe a bit less jaggier lines, but mostly because you can somewhere see pixels

Developer

Okay ^^ I tested it and I agree, I'll see what Ican do to remove the pixels ^^ Thank you :

Developer

I updated the game if youu want to check it out ^^

Nice atmosphere. If the bgm be more intensive instead of relax, I think it would be much better.
Btw, it is quite fun that the big fish can collide with the bouncy things and produce a cute sfx lul.

Developer

Thank you ^^ The idea was to make a music that felt underwatery but it ended up to relaxing ^^

Developer

I made an update if you want to try again ^^ I didn't modify the music unfortunately.

It is a really good game, but there is a thing. when i go up to much it punishes me with a game over, and that is not good because one of the strongest features of this game is exploration. Apart of that i really enjoy it

Developer(+1)

Thank you ^^ The level border is a problem I tried to make it as big as possible but if I let an infinite space, It's really hard to get back to the level. I will probably remove the level system and make it open world-ish ^^

Developer

I made an update to fix the problem a bit ^^ You still die if you go to far but you'll have a bunch of warning ^^

Give this one a chance, I found it very charming! the sense of exploration is hard hitting and the antagonist is very spooky and overwhelming. Had me running scared. My only complaint is that getting lost feels a little frustrating, but that also makes the exploration more exciting.

Developer

Hi ^^ I added a proper border if you want to check it out ^^

I love that somebody called this relaxing. I was having a panic attack the entire time I played it. Lol it’s really well done though and I was seriously vibing on the bioluminescent creatures you swim by in the background. If I had to complain about one thing it would be that the player character does look nice, but it doesn’t have the same cool trippy vibe as the background fish, I would have liked to see that. All in all though this is a great game. Thanks for sharing it!

Developer

Thank you for your kind words ^^ I was surprised as well to see some people say that it was relaxing x) My playtesters panicked the first time they tried x) I'm glad you liked it ^^ I will look into doing a more detailed fish for the player ^^

Developer

I made an updated border if you want to try again ^^ I'm not sure I will follow through with this game however ^^ I want to try other projects before getting back to it ^^

Good work, very interesting concept but could be better with more attention to the graphics, especially the UI and animations. Overall good game though

The Ui is my nightmare x)

Developer

I added a proper border but the Ui will stay the same for now x) It will probably be the last thing I will fix sorry x)

Thank you :)

Update ^^

Really liked the atmosphere! My first encounter with a horror def startled me too lol Would be cool if there were different kinds of threats to force different approaches

Developer(+1)

Thank you ^^ It was my intent at first to add more creatures but It was a lot of work and most of all testing and I had no time left. But I will probably return to this work and try to make it better :)

I loved your game by the way :D

Developer

I made an update with a cool border for the levels ^^ I didn't work on new threats yet but I noticed many people stopped at the third level. If that's your case you missed a more dangerous variant of the horror in the fourth and seventh levels ^^

Submitted(+1)

Nice! I'll try to give the update a shot when I get some time!

Noice!
