Really cool idea, the art style is good. The level design is brilliant and you included a tutorial.

In what way does your game fit the theme?
We have implemented a topdown shooter with followers mechanic.
Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes, we wrote all the code by ourself and we made all assets from scratch.

I really enjoyed this one! The pigubes are very cute, and the gameplay was frantic and fun. The only problem I encountered was that sometimes when transitioning between levels, my followers would spawn inside one of the blocks in the level and would be trapped inside there until I went to the next level. (They could still shoot, they just couldn't move outside of that block.) But otherwise I had a blast! Good job :D
Good game, I enjoyed this one :-) Nice graphics, clear use of the theme and good sound. I didn't do too much with the formations, but I still did OK. It might have been even better if there had been a stronger reliance on the formations.
That was fun ! only issue i had was spawning directly on ennemies but everythings else just work as intended ^^ great job ! good potential ;)
It is really engaging. I couldn't finish though, is there an end for game? One time my minions spawn on an obstacle at the start of the game and all perished :)
Hey, thanks for feedback! No there is not an end for the game as the levels are created using a simple mathematical sequence. You may have noticed that each level the map increases, spawns more eneies etc.. we also wanted to add each few levels a boss fight but run out of time.
About that minion spawn.. yes we know that sometimes this happens, but they should not perish unless they get killed (by an enemy). Sorry about that.
It's impressive how you made a solid shop system and a tutorial in a week! The game in this state can get repetitive and a little boring after you finish the 1st few levels but it has a lot of potential. I think one of the best features of top down shooters which make it so fun is the game juice/feel. Huge particle effects, camera shake, loud crunchy sfx, enemy death sequences- I feel like the game would feel so much more fun with these. Basically, go all in and experiment with player feedback. A way to keep track of enemies' hp(like an hp bar) would also be good since I can't really tell if I'm getting close to killing one and an aim line thing(not sure what it's called) to help the player know where they are shooting would be great. Maybe a way for the followers to respawn after they die would also be good since it feels like the game is pushing me to fail when most of my followers die even tho I still wanna win. The formations would also be a lot more useful with more followers in the area.
Sorry if this comes off too pressuring or harsh, but I just see a lot of potential with the followers + shooter mechanic. The game was still quite addictive and fun to play and I really did enjoy it!
Thanks for this exhausting review! You made a lot of good points, wich is much appreciated! A few words reacting to your suggestion:
We wanted to add a boss fight so that it gets more fun afteer few levels. Also the difficulty wasnt probably set high enough in the higher levels.
The huge particle effects, camera shaking etc.. would be much more fun, I agree.. but again its a one week jam. We will try to add them later after the jam ends!
For the respawn of those followers - we wanted you to be careful about them, because they were your crewmates and you dont want to lose them or use them as a shield!
And finally your comment did not come too harsh, instead we are grateful for such a detailed review! Thanks again :).
Engaging & fun game! Its always nice to see a good top down game.
Great job! Almost a full 5/5 for me. Awesome music, I love the retro graphics, it reminds me of tyrian and little bit fo doom too (idk why). I think the different stances are not needed because I basically set my favorite at start and then did not change it.
Very simple and fun game, the feeling of increasing strenght with the more followers you have is truly amazing. Maybe an arrow pointing to the portal once you have killed all the enemies would have been great.
Thank you for playing our game and for the video review! To clarify the shop mechanic. Green buffs are applied only when bought and red debuffs are applied when they are NOT bought. By buying red debuffs you are preventing them from being applied. We know it is our mistake to not clarify this clearly.
I hope you enjoyed our game despite this flaw!
This game is so addicting, I played for like 30 minutes and got to level 16! Very nice work, love the idea.
I really like the game idea especially the shop between levels concept.
Thanks for the review. We've thought about that. In the end, we decided to make the player able to go to the portal any time. He can use it to save himself if he is low on HP. It opens the way to rush to the portal all the time but we thought that not buying debuffs will make it hard enough to not do that. We have tested that you can't reach the same level as if you would by properly killing everything and collecting coins.
A very cool game! Solid AI, nice graphics. Didn’t make use of follower formations, though - it was usually enough that the followers are somewhat nearby. Great job!
Amazing game. Extremely fun. Good graphics. I really enjoyed collecting a lot of followers as it was fun watching them destroy the enemies with me
