The concept is really cool and the wind bullets are fun to use. However, the game is pretty hard to control because the number keys are a little bit too far away from the WASD keys, I think using QERT keys for instead would make control feels better.

Thanks, yes you are right! Thought about having some kind of wheel to select from using q and e or scroll, but we never really got time.

Nice art and music. The background was glitching out which was a bit distracting. I like the idea, it is very ambitious. I just didn't find a use for combining different elements together. The 3 enemy types had weaknesses : 1. water-water, 2. fire-fire, 3. rock-rock . Not using other combinations was a bit of a waste. Also, it would've been nice to see the elements impacting the behaviour of the gun in meaningful ways, for example fire-fire shoots fireballs, fire-water shoots a cloud of hot steam etc. The maps were a bit too big, in my opinion. I spent the majority of the gameplay trying to find that last remaining enemy. The enemies themselves didn't pose much of a threat and were easily defeated, which isn't very exciting. I think smaller maps with more and tougher enemies would've made for a more fun experience. Despite some problems, this idea is pretty great. The game that you've made is good, but has the potential to be even better.

Also would be cool if you checked my game :  https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-5/rate/927654

It's about a virus living inside a human's body!!!!

Really awesome idea! The mechanic of combining elements in your gun was really cool, and I liked how different enemies had different elements they were weak to. I also liked how the water gun was used to boost the player up, that was a cool movement mechanic. Some element combinations were missing and I found it odd how pressing the water element instantly filled it up, but I understand if that's just due to jam limitations, as this game seems pretty complex to code. The game really needs to let the player learn the game mechanics before it throws them in front of an enemy, since the mechanics are pretty complex. I lost 3/4 of my health to that first enemy just because I didn't know how to shoot or mix elements and the game didn't give me time to learn. Also I got softlocked in a pit:

But overall it is a really cool idea, if you add more unique interaction to mixing elements this definitely has potential to being more than a game jam game!

Even though my brain was hurting at the beginning trying to figure out what to press to shoot etc but once I got the hang of it it was a fun game! Find my video review below, oh and I did not fully figure out the combined elements as on what was good or bad haha

An interesting gameplay loop with some quirks.

Fun:

So the main gameplay was average overall for the fun aspect. But where I really had fun with this game was when I started goofing around wind bullets to blast around the screen.  I think the main reason the main gameplay loop struggled was there was no real clear direction of where to go. I randomly found enemies just by tooting around with the wind bullets lol Also figuring out a comfortable way to use the bullet combination system was difficult which sucked some of the fun away. I think a clearer focus and improved user experience would have helped with the fun aspect.

Innovation/Theme:

Combining elements to create stronger bullets is a great idea. and really played into the theme very well. This was a definite strong area of the game!

Graphics:

The pixel art was very nicely done! Dense pixel art is always one of my favorites. The only thing I can really say negative here is the main player sprite felt still. Maybe some stretch or squish while moving to help give feel of smoother movement.

Audio:

The track was decent and matched the game, so nice work here.

Game Design:

The overall experience felt a little clunky. I think focusing on making the main user experience a little more friendly would have gone a long way here.  If the player struggles with the core mechanic, then the rest of the game suffers. Maybe some play testing would have helped here! I think  if you find a better method of element combination, the game would be a fantastic playthrough!

I streamed it here:

Nice review! Thanks for playing!

The game is quite hard and repetitive but I like the way you use wind bullet as jetpack :)

Cool game, it was very interesting to see something like 2D magika with a rocket jump.

Liked the idea ! I'd love to have more real combinations right at the beginning.

Unfortunately I got one bug, I hit the ground too hard and got stuck into it. Not a big deal tho. I'd suggest you to put a cool down on the air combination, it's quite easy to use it as you want, and do it repeatedly to fly.

Great work on the art, as well !

It took me awhile to get used to it (while being shot at haha). But once I did I had a lot of fun zooming around the levels! Didn't expect that.

I found the enemies had 1 elemental weakness and just used those. I was hoping for more tutorial about combining elements, but didn't need them which is kind of a weakness to the theme. But I definitely had fun!
