I told you this when I streamed it but I love the little walk wobbles the zebras have! Fun game, requires a lot of planning (which I failed to have haha) to push your luck as far as you can and still make it back safely. great job
Thanks so much for playing and for your feedback!
A lot of detail in the pixel art and a really well done intro. Took me a little bit of time to figure out the mechanics but once I got it down the game was a lot of fun.
I grind so much and got so far, but in the end it doesn't even matterr. I've played this like half an hour on stream, it was fun as hell. And this game has special secret ending for those who don't want help:), btw, thanks for helping with those puzzles!
Haha thanks so much for the time you spent playing it, I am so sorry the end did not pan out. the way the raycasting was coded, makes the final boss collisions a little wonky and watching the frustration players like yourself had with it has definitely taught me a lot. Thanks again for all your feedback!
A fun high risk big reward type of game!
Fun:
The game had a high risk high reward type of system in place. Which resulted in multiple situations of quick thinking and close calls. This was a strong suit of the game! Plus the teleporting zebra mechanic was great!
Innovation/Theme:
The game used a reliable concept for the theme. Grow a herd to become stronger. The idea alone is not unique, but the way you implemented it was. Incorporating the high risk/reward system based on how you grow your herd was very clever!
Graphics:
This is confusing to me. The menu/ui looked great on their own, and the main gameplay had it's own charm. However, the inconsistent style between the two just made the experience feel disconnected to me. I think if you could have stuck with a style, it would have made the transition from the menu/cutscene to the main gameplay less jarring. Overall both art styles stand on their own. Just didn't mesh well to me. This happened to our team in a previous jam. Typically this is a result due to the time constraints placed via the jam. So take this critique with a grain of salt!
Audio:
The song that played during game was an actual BOP, however this was another element that didn't seem to mesh well with the gameplay. This is a personal opinion and maybe others will disagree. The music you did make was good though.
Game Design:
The game concept and the use of the theme was very solid here, but connecting the dots with the audio and graphics wasn't quite there. You clearly have skills to be able to create assets and program a game, but a larger overview of putting a fully cohesive experience together was not fully there in this project. I would suggest teaming up or at least finding some other game designers and discussing their process of laying out a roadmap to complete a game. There are also a lot of GDC videos and a youtube channel called Extra credits on youtube . There are a few other channels that are good too like gamedevtoolkit. I think you have a bright future with this, keep growing and don't be afraid to learn from outside sources or working with others!
I streamed the game here:
I really appreciate your comprehensive feedback on the game and fully agree with all the points you made. the feedback you have given me has been invaluable and I will def keep them in mind moving forward. Teaming up with other people is def something I would like to do in the future and I think would also be a great learning experience. Thank you again for all the time you devoted to my game.
No problem! I did enjoy the overall experience and it made me laugh a few times too. I really like game jams, because it really shows peoples strengths and weaknesses. I know for me personally, I typically focus on making a strong gameplay loop, but sometimes have trouble polishing everything up. And when you work with a team and having play testers really helps point these areas out, and you can improve upon them.
really innovative game. saw it on stream. congrats, mate
Thanks so much!!
The art was awesome and the lighting and the effects. The game is a little slow-paced and the dash is hard to track where you are going from where. Enjoyed it though!
Thanks so much for the feedback and the vid. I checked it out on youtube. I saw you never redeemed grass for extra zebras. from watching people play through it I see that is is very unclear how to exchange grass for more zebras. Getting all this feedback has been very beneficial as a game dev.
I see! That's why I didn't get past the hyena.
The art was very cool! Awesome lighting effects and I love the sprites you made. I also liked the look of walking with all the zebras behind you. One thing is that the dash attack for the final boss fight did not always register with the hitbox against the boss. I would also include some instructions for new players so they can figure out how to kill the boss. Otherwise it was very enjoyable, thank you for letting me stream your game earlier today. I'm sure everyone else enjoyed it as well!
Thanks so much for the feedback and playing the game!!! and yeah I did notice that problem with the boss fight but ran out of time to debug why it was happening.
Nice concept, the only bad things were the lack of sfx and the wonky character controls. The music was good, the art style was good and I enjoyed playing the game. Good job!
yeah sound effects were last on my list and i ran out of time. and by wonky do you mean the dash? thanks so much for the feedback
I mean that when you're moving forward and than press up or down it has a bit of a delay.
gotcha, thanks for the feedback!
