This is a nice game! I thought it was very creative, although it was a bit slow at times.
The idea of jumping higher when you are more frightened is so creative. Well done!
Thank you!
The pixel art is very well done and the idea is unique! I never thought I would stand close to an enemy to help me progress in a level. Good job!
A very creative idea, nice job -- it flipped the usual relation to enemies on its head, in a good way. The torch-toggling also added a nice additional dimension to it. I liked the artwork, too. Nice work!
I really like the concept ! The idea is really nice and the art is gorgeous. The character is a bit too fast, making it ridiculously hard to control when the fear bar is full. Just a bit of polishing needed, but that's a solid entry. Congratulations ^^ !
The fear mechanic is a cool concept!
I feel the movement got a bit out of hand when I gained some fear though. Think an improvement would be to have the character accelerate some before reaching max speed, that way the player can have more precise control when needed.
Also the background was a bit confusing and I had hard time sometimes to see which platforms were real.
I love the fear mechanic! I initially was scared to stand next to the enemy, which is incredibly ironic lol.
Would be cool to have fear scale higher if you're closer to an enemy. That way, if the player wants fear they can force it to be super high. But if they don't want fear and they stay away from enemies, you can still maintain a separate fear rate for balancing reasons.
Also, the main character felt really dynamic, especially with fear active. This felt super great after playing a zillion platformers in the jam where playing the characters felt like swimming through syrup.
Cool game!
Check out mine if you're interested :D
Thank you! That's a nice idea that I wish I had thought of. I agree that waiting around for an enemy to fill up your fear bar can be kind of annoying.
nice game man, but fear bar filling time takes to much time lol( ͡❛ ͜ʖ ͡❛)
I absolutely loved this game, it's such a smart and well build game!
Thank you!
Nice game, rated it. Pls check out my game if you don't mind - https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-7/rate/1418152
Not able to rate this one, sorry. I opened up the game and the resolution in the game didn't match the screen. I clicked Controls and I was not able to get back to the title screen.
Really fun, movement is clean theme is good. Great job. The music could use some work.
The graphics are very clean with this game, especially the level transitions. The fear meter is a really neat feature that I haven't seen elsewhere. Overall, great game!
I think the idea and graphics are great. The control however was a little bit dificult to manage. Still liked it a lot
The graphics and the music are great! The controls felt a bit heavy and clunky to use but the mechanic of gaining speed through the fear meter is very good. Something I wanted to see was how much fear I can accumulate. I usually couldn't tell if I have the fear meter up to half or if it is near full.
Thank you, I see your point about the fear metre and we perhaps should have made it more clear as to how full it was. The controls are definetly something I will try to work on more in future projects. :D
Very cool game. The level design is excellent and I always knew where to go and how to get there. I think that the character controller could have benefited from being a bit floatier because once your fear goes up it is almost impossible to control. I feel like there were maybe a few too many mechanics as well that weren't necessary (turning off the torch and eating food to reduce fear) although I do think that all of the mechanics were introduced to the player very well. Overall, the graphics and audio were great and I had fun playing your game. Great job!
Thank you! I would agree that the player probably gets too out of control at higher fear, but we wanted to make a clear distinction between no fear and a lot of fear, and probably went a bit overboard. :D
