This is a really nice game. Nice movement and mechanic really make this game interesting! Your art is also incredible, can't find any flaw from that. Good work! :D

Developer

Thank you very much, glad to hear you liked our game! :)

This is the best game I've played in this jam, period, the mechanic, the graphics, the cool twist at the third level, everything just worked, I'm really really really impressed by this game, and I'm hoping this will get included in brackeys video

To go into a bit more detail, from the level design, which is fantastic, you've managed to explain how your mechanic is so different from every other game that I've played.

Sure, the fake platforms I've seen in almost every entry, but the way it is used here as the mirror and the fact that you have to consider each side to then complete a section is really well thought out.

And that is not even the impressive part, the enemy, and the way the movement shifts to go the opposite way of your character, this was my favorite bit, together with the  fact that you had to keep track of 3 mirrors, I can't even think of how hard it would be to go beyond that.

It really reminds me of 2 games that I really like, Four Sided Fantasy and the mirror levels from The Witness, both are puzzle games that if you haven't played you definitely should.

I do have some tiny nitpicks, one is the player controls, which feels a bit too static, it misses a bit acceleration to smooth out the movement and the jump.

And two is the weird invisible walls of the platforms, for some reason in certain jumps something blocked me (level 5 and 4) and I think its related to hitbox of the player\platforms or the one way collision, we've used a spherical collision for the player and it worked with the platforms in our entry for this jam.

Besides that, really well done, eager to see how you'll take this mechanic from here, because you definitely should continue this game after the jam ends

Developer

Just... Wow! Thank you SO MUCH for you comment, we really really appreciate it, it really means a lot to us to hear that and motivates us to keep working on the game. Unfortunately, they were no video for the jams last year so I doubt they'll make a video for this jam either...

I've never heard of Four Sided Fantasy, but looking at a gameplay video, I can feel why you would find some similarities. I don't know if my fellow jammers know this game but I don't t hink it was mentionned during our brainstorming session for the jam. Let's say it's a happy coincidence, haha :D

I don't think I know what you mean about the "invisible walls of the platforms"... We'll try to keep an eye out for that.

I think you will be pleased to know we actually ARE working on an enhanced version of the game, with fixes that got mentionned a lot (spoiler, that acceleration stuff made its way into our backlog ;) ) and also, adding more levels, refining the current ones, updated graphics, more music, more sounds and so on... :)

Anyway, I'd like to thank you again for your oh so nice comment, we were so glad to read it, you really made our day, thank you <3

No problem! I hope brackeys would at least check some of the games but if not the community is more than enough :)

About the invisible walls, it's when you jump to one way platforms, at the center it functions great but on the sides it sometimes blocks you, it might be beacuse of the movement aswell

Also, if you have a bit of time, we would really appreciate it if you could check out our game, it's also a puzzle game, and who knows more than you how puzzle games work https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-7/rate/1419548

And if you're up to do something together, my DMs are always open ;)

Wow this game feels so polished and has a really cool concept! It takes a fairly common platforming mechanic but keeps adding complexity to it as you play in a way you might not expect at first. Great submission! I hope you keep working on it and add more levels!

Developer

Thank you so much for that! It really means a lot to us, we're so glad you enjoyed our game!

We are actually currently working on fixing some details we heard a lot about, and add some more stuff, I can keep you updated if you wanna see more when it's released! :)

Wow that death/respawn effect is awesome. Nice work!

Developer

Thank you! I'll personnally thank our death animation artist on your behalf! :D

Great idea and concept. I love all the mechanics, a bit trippy and give me headache sometimes, but great nonetheless! :D

Developer

Haha, thank you for that! I agree it's a bit trippy at times but that's what makes its charm, doesn't it? :D

wow! just wow! a brilliant idea, very well implemented, perfectly fitting and a very clever story and so much fun to play it through. And i love the art! <3

I came cause the thumbnail looked nice. The art style is simple, and it's nice actually having context for your actions in a game jam game. Theme was well integrated, though I wish the platforms you could go through looked distinct from everything else..

Developer

Thanks, we definitely did a pretty thumbnail to attract some players so we're glad to know it worked :P

Not being able to distinguish fake platforms in the "normal" world is... kind of the whole point of the game actually ^^'

Incredible! I really enjoyed this game! The problem solving with the reflections was really satisfying, the graphics are great, the music is great, very creative concept, awesome job!

Pretty dope game.

Developer

Thanks!

This is one of the best implementations of the jam's theme, you really managed to make it a central gameplay mechanic. I love everything about this game, the visual style, the audio, the whole idea behind the gameplay. I got stuck at a certain point, but I will make sure to come back to it.

If I had to pick one thing to improve, it would be the text, because the font is sometimes hard to read (which you also pointed out in the dialogue) and there are a few grammatical errors.

Overall, a good-looking, polished game with a consistent atmosphere. You just got a new follower, will be looking forward to your future projects.

Developer(+1)

Wow, thank you so much for your very nice feedback, we really appreciate it! The whole team was deligthed by what you said, it really means a lot :)

I hope you managed to finish the game! If you need hints, we uploaded a full playtrough on YouTube, there are chapters for each levels. Thé video is at the bottom of the game page.

Yes the font is hard to read because it has to be readable in the reflection as well. And the grammatical errors... Sorry, we're just a bunch of frenchie doing their best :D

We are actually currently working on fixing some details we heard a lot about, and add some more stuff, I can keep you updated if you wanna see more when it's released! :)

Hey, that was a really fun game. I got a bit confused when you had to start keeping track of the differences in multiple types of reflections but the mechanic where you've got to keep track of things going on in the mirror is quite cool and I don't think I've seen much if anything, like it before.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Yeah we tried to have a fairly unique approach for this game! :)

We're glad you liked it! It can be tricky at times but it should never be unfair, at least that's what we tried to do :)

Submitted(+1)

You guys did a good job. The difficult parts made you think about what you were doing and I like that in games.

Submitted(+1)

This one is my favorite so far. 5/5 on innovation, this is a concept I don't think I've ever seen executed in a game before. Love it!

Developer

Thank you very much, we're very glad you enjoyed our game, stay tuned for an updated version in the coming days / weeks! :D

Submitted(+1)

That was awesome. I love several ideas you put in here. However, please allow moving using arrows, please, I'm not that agile with just one hand XD

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much and you are so right, we should have allowed moving with the arrow keys, I'm adding this right now to our todolist for the patch we're working on! I'll reply to you here once it's live!

Submitted(+1)

Amazing experience. That was a total mind bender to control and platform on different reflections! Would love to see this released into a full game!

Developer

Thank you, happy to know you liked it!

We are actually currently working on fixing some details we heard a lot about, and add some more stuff, I can keep you updated if you wanna see more when it's released! :)

First Impression:

-Main menu and background image is absolute gorgeous.

-I love  the smooth animation and font type you used for the dialogues.

-The music was so nice and fitting the atmosphere!

-When I needed to decrease the volume, I could find the pause menu. That's life saviour let me tell you. Also, the font is so good that it makes this simple menu looks so nice.

-Idea of  seeing the platforms from the so called "mirror" is amazind idea! More I play the game more I am invested in! As well as that, way you move in and out the camera is a magic work for me because I hate dealing with camera but sometimes, when i am high in platform it'd not let me see the invisible platforms(or you inteded to do that)

Overall, my impression would continue to do that. Interesting mechanics and challanges making this game top tier. I'd like you guys to continue bulding this game. This deserves more attention!

If you have time, I'd like to hear your thoughts on my game too!

Developer

Thank you so much for the very detailed feedback!

We are very glad that you really liked our game, its music, and aesthetics!

Fun fact, one of our previous game jam did not include an options menu in the pause screen to allow the player to lower the volume of the music and we heard from  this detail a lot so now we really take the time to build a simple menu to let the player adjust the volume on the fly, glad you noticed it!

The part where you don't see the platforms underneath you is intended, yes, it's supposed to make you go back to see the reflection and memorize the position of the platforms.

We are actually currently working on fixing some details we heard a lot about, and add some more stuff, I can keep you updated if you wanna see more when it's released! :)

Anyway, thanks again for your time playing and reviewing! :D
