How does you game fit the theme?
Spectral Adventure is a 2D platformer with unreal objects and enemies. You must use the Ghost to distinguish between the real and the unreal and you must use Twiggy to fight the enemies.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
I did the programming, level design, UI design.
I used art assets for characters and environment as well as audio assets for background music and sound effects. All of these assets are credited both inside the game and in the itch webpage.

This game looks so cute! I really love it!

I just rated your game, maybe you can do the same on mine ^_^

The entire game is perfect! Game design, art, gameplay and sounds! It turned out amazing!

I love the art, and the music is awesome!

This game might have a cutesy look, but holy heck it's deceptively hard. It has some precise jumps, and the enemies are large enough to actually be an obstacle.
It's a smart implementation of the theme, I genuinely really liked it.

Only sad part was how short it was. I feel like it could've maybe implemented ghost-only platforms, and things that only kill the girl, to make for some really complex situations that requires both action and puzzling.

I really like the concept of this game :) switch between girl and ghost to see different things and use their skills to overcome the obstacle. Great job :)

I love the switching between the characters to find the unreal parts of the game, I thought it fit the theme pretty well! I was stuck at the second level for quite some time since I forgot about the key and kept trying to get the key without dying, I eventually got it though! I had fun! Great job!

pretty cool concept , i also did something like that in my game. nice game!

A wonderful concept but if the controls were more precise and easier to use this game would be much better. In my opinion, you shouldn't worry about the game's length and increase the difficulty. Game jam games should be short, easy and sweet. They're playable ideas that could be turned into full games, or you could make funny gag games. I could imagine a game like this but with a few more characters, each with their own abilities and being able to see through different illusions and you have to use each of them to help the other. And if the idea isn't sticking, you can move on to the next one. I think this game is really cool and I hope you make more!

Great design concept. Good artstyle as well.

I like the concept! I think the secret bomb colliders are kinda too big because I keep dying xP

It was a nice design and a great dynamic

I love the character and game design

Well first of all I think I really like the concept; I really like the interpretation of the theme.

Fun wise I think it is going to be more fun for better players but I think the difficulty is a tad bit too high for someone of my caliber XP

I was about to praise the graphics and the audio but after finding out that they are assets I think I shouldn't. I think how you decorate your levels using those assets is very nice though.

However, I do have some criticisms. The major ones being:

  • I might have missed this one but anywhere in the game, have you put out the information that you can kill enemies by stomping on them? I guess in Mario it works that way but it is not the case for all Platformers and certainly was not an intuitive conclusion imo.  It took me a while to try that move on the skeleton only to find out that it works
  • Don't you think the 1 key sandwiched between two layers of bombs on stage one... a tad bit inappropriate for stage 1? What do you think about using stage 1 to introduce the mechanics more gently?
  • Was it an intentional and purposeful decision that the skeleton enemy is introduced in stage 1 but not the green walking enemy? I wonder if there is a reason for that because I am wondering if it would make your game's difficulty curve better had the easier green enemy been introduced earlier; perhaps to introduce the player that you can stomp on enemies.

And also some minor criticisms:

  • Do you think you can syncronize the coin and fake coin animation after switching back from ghost to human form? Right now  their animations become unsynced when you switch between the two and I think it is going to be more interesting if it stays synced.
  • Maybe it's just my preference but don't you think the cmovement is too slippery?

Thanks for playing my game. Yes, I think the main issue is that I didn't test the game on many players before releasing. I also only had time to create two levels so I thought if I made them too easy it won't be fun. This was a bad decision and I should have handled the difficulty better. I am considering adding checkpoints and the option to select the difficulty as well as reworking the levels and adding new ones.

Thank you for the feedback and I will take what you listed into consideration.

While I wished I could continue,  a few things had me stop from the first level.

First, the button prompts are horrible for WASD controls, I can't press X while using WASD.

Bomb's collisions are huge, and I took damage from it without even touching it.

Restarting from the beginning every time is a bit annoying, after collecting a coin the first time, I quit collecting them anymore.

Having to use the mouse to restart is a bad idea for a game that doesn't use the mouse, making restarting the level even more tedious.

I'm not trying to say this is a bad game, I think it's pretty good, I just wished there were a bit easier and having a faster restarting method, I am not bad at platformers at all, this is just difficult because of the buttons positions and the energy it takes to restart a level.

Adorable art, and very fun gameplay! Fits the theme to a T. Starting back at the beginning on death is frustrating though.

Really nice game ! The idea fit well with the theme  and the change beetween the 2 characters is very smooth & enjoyable. :)

Little feedbacks:

I was a bit frustrated with the movement. I touch bombs that i knew where there a lot because of the desceleration time wen you stop pressing the move key.

Also adding keyboard control on the menu so that we don't have to pick up the mouse every time we die would be really nice :)

appart from that, really solid game ! great work :)

Really love the mechanics where you need to change quickly between each characters to use their abilities. Nice

Awesome Pixel art and mechanics! Very simple to understand and awesome levels! There was a small bug where if you spam the jump button u can double jump and im not too sure if this was intentional. Otherwise awesome game entry!
