My god this game was difficult. I was able to beat it, but I never felt like I was good at the game. I think the main issue is the control scheme, something about it made it too easy to press the wrong buttons, and it never really felt comfortable.

Otherwise the art and sound and level design are really good. Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for finishing the game and giving us feedback!

We discussed this a lot with our team over the past few days actually and came up to the conclusion that it is probably this difficult because there are 2 buttons that basically perform the same action and that's something that's very hard for the brain to process. So as much as it looked cool on paper to have 2 kinds of blocks to disable and can be fun, it is very easy to confuse the buttons and can lead to frustration or a feeling of disconnect.

Anyway, thank you!

That's a good observation. I think there might be a way of doing it, like if instead of turning them on and off individually you could have it so one is always turned off, so it would just be one button. That would be easier to keep track of for sure, because I don't think there was ever a need to have both turned on at once.

Developer(+1)

Yes, that is actually what we came up with as a possible solution too! There were also many times during the level design when I was very limited because all blocks could be just on the whole time, but switching between two would not only help with controls but also unlock various other interesting level ideas that I had to scratch.

I really love the visual aesthetic to the game, it sort of feels like it has a children's book look to it. I will say I was getting a bit frustrated with trying to platform as controlling the jump felt off and the platforms were a bit too slippery. I ended up quitting early on because I was just in this cycle of trying to get onto the next platform but would undershoot it. Overall great job!

This is one of the best games i played in this jam !! The graphics are really good ! All the best! Do rate mine also

Interesting take on the theme! I love the aesthetics and atmosphere of the game a lot! definitely 5 stars for the graphics and audio!

A small issue though,  I would recommend using a box collider for the character, cuz I slipped off the edges many times  while standing and planning my next move. Other than that, really amazing job! :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the comment and generous rating!

And thanks for the feedback, we had some other problems with a box collider so we opted for a different one that solved it, we will make sure its better next time though!

Submitted(+3)

Solid game design and love the aesthetic. Reminds me of the original gameboy color scheme! I did notice, for me at least, a slight pause when toggling the rocks colliders. It seems like you are disabling all of them at once but not sure if that plays into it. Or maybe i just have a potato computer :)

Developer

Thank you for liking it! We do disable all the rocks colliders at once, but I don't think there are that many of them. Still, we will keep performance and optimization in mind for next time, thanks for the feedback!

Fell in love with the thumbnail and had a lot of fun playing the game. Pretty cool idea to switch on and off the reality if needed. I also love the graphics. Good job!!!

Developer

Thank you, we are really happy you like it! Im glad making the thumbnail was worth it!

Really nice, love the unique art style and vibe of the game. The 'slippiness' of platform edges and the difficulty controlling the jump did feel a bit frustrating at times though. Still very nice!

Developer

Thank you! We appreciated the feedback and will do better next time for sure!

Very nice game. Fits the theme, looks great and plays good as well. Nice job!

Developer

Thank you! Makes us really happy to hear that!

Great game! Love the art style, very cute, and the audio was good enough to fit the game well. It was overall pretty hard, but I played it with my brother and it was pretty fun, we had a good laugh, and we managed to beat the game in the end. The controls were a bit hard to get used to, and we sometimes end up mashing random buttons XD. It fit the theme quite well, but it was pretty similar to a game called heart star. Enjoyed it! :D

Developer

Thank you for the kind comment, reading that you enjoyed it with your brother brings us joy! And congratz on beating the game, not that many people manage to do that, it is quite hard to get used to after all, and there are quite big difficulty spikes too! If you want an extra challenge, you can try finding the secret too! Its in the pre-boss level and not that hard to find, but really easy to miss!

I actually never heard of heart star, but it looks pretty similar, didn't think there would be a similar game, but the concept is not something overly unthinkable so it only makes sense!

Once again, thank you for playing and enjoying our game!

this is a well designed game. It's pretty challenging for me. I loved the music!

Developer

Thank you for the comment, we are glad you like it!

I absolutely loved this! The puzzles are challenging, but fair. The art is great, audio is also great! Great work! ^^

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing, we love to hear you liked it!

Really artsy, kinda wanna have cayote jump since it's a platformer, but overall nice job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Actually, there is a cayote jump implemented, otherwise the mechanic would be even harder to use in many areas, it is subtle, so you probably didn't notice in normal jumps, but it would be really punishing without it for times when you have to remove a platform under you and jump at the same time. Thank you for the feedback though, maybe it was too subtle and could be made more forgiving!

A combination of my loved things… Puzzle, platform, pixel, fun, calm. I loved it

I love the art and music. it looks so polished for the small amount of time we had. really impressive.

if you ever keep working on this game please try to make it a little bit easier or maybe have some assist mode or something.

I only say this because I wanted to see more really bad because it was just so pretty but I was just too bad at the game haha.

very well done for only 7 days!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words!

If we were to continue on the game, we would most likely redesign the concept a bit. If you get used to it you can play it pretty well and also fast, but that doesnt change the fact that its still pretty difficult and you need time to learn it, but we do have some thoughts on how to make it way easier to handle while still having an interesting (basically the same)concept that could still be challenging but easier for less experienced people.

Thank you for the feedback though! An assist mode for even more accessibility is definitely a great idea! But unfortunately too out of scope for a game jam game, as you probably know haha.

Submitted(+1)

yes I totally get you.

Also remember this is your vision. Sometimes games are just hard for some players. That does not mean you have to change anything.

There are so many hard platformers with great stories where I probably could not finish a single level but I still enjoy watching others play it. :)

I always have fun with puzzle Platformers and the art is really well done it sets up a very interesting tone for the game

Developer

Thank you, glad you had fun and liked the art!

Great platformer, really liked the art and atmosphere!

I think that having WASD for movement and then using E and C for other player mechanics, isn't the best option considering I have more than 1 hand and there are all these other keys on my keyboard. Made the controls a bit awkward.

Still a fun and polished platforming experience.

Developer

Hi! Im sorry to hear you had a rougher experience. Have you considered using arrow keys as suggested at the very beginning? I believe using 2 hands would be definitely easier to play the game. And dont worry, you only use E very limited amount of time (4 in total) and it never requires using it with any other key(you just pick up a still item on the ground), so i think it should be fine, but we will keep your feedback in mind for our future games!

Thank you for playing!

Very impressive in all regards and fun to play.  Great Job!
