Great game. I really liked the art my only issue is that the levels feel too long, I also believe at the beginning that it was an endless shooter because of this

Developer

Thanks for your feedback and glad that you liked the art :)

Yeah that's the main issue people brought up so far and i agree !

The thing i didn't anticipated is that it would feel so long that people would think it's an endless shooter, so if the rules allow i'll check if i can add a "Know issues" to the page and mention this.

Fun game! It really captured that arcade shooter feeling extremely well. I enjoyed the art and destroying enemy ships felt really good.

If you wanted to improve I suggest adding a white flash whenever a ship (yours or enemy gets hit) or some sort of visual feedback. I also recommend making the weapon automatic. Having to hold down spacebar the entire time without penalty should probably just be an automatic feature.

Overall a super fun game!

Developer

Thanks ^_^

Yeah i didn't have much time to add quite enough feedback to damage etc on the player but i'm glad the one that's on the enemies seems somewhat satisfying, but definitively taking notes !

To be honest i didn't even think about an autofire feature but this seems like a nice quality of life improvement to add, i may have thought a bit too old school in that regard XD

Glad you enjoyed the game and had fun nonetheless thanks for sharing your thoughts and playing the game  o/

The game has a nice cohesive feel.

As an asset pack addict, its super impressive that you made all the assets yourself.

The biggest issue is that it feels padded out. Given the limited amount of unique content, which is 100% understandable in a game jam, the levels overstay their welcome, lasting too long and becoming boring. I think it would be better served by simply reducing the repetition in each level so they are shorter.

The second main issue is that shields seem too generous. I can AFK in certain parts of the screen and my shield will just block all damage. The regen rate should probably be slower.

But overall, it's a well-done game and captures that arcade feeling.

Good work.

Developer

Thanks dude :)

Well like i explained earlier the too long levels are mostly due to a bad decision i made to have the boss activation tied to all enemies in the level being dead,  and i had many different issues during the jam with spawns, boss behaviour and such that i had to focus on so i couldn't change my level structure but now i know what to avoid for sure for next time XD

Shields i didn't have time to properly balance so yeah i might have made them a bit too generous on recharge time, the thing is as they are here they have different total value and recharge rates depending on the ship type and i didn't really fine tune them all that much mostly due to focusing on the previously mentioned issues :/

but roughly i made the small ship have low shield quantity with super fast recharge, medium ship with average in both stats and the larger ship with a high cap low recharge shield, but you're absolutely right this needs some tweaks

Anyway happy that you like the game even with these flaws and that you find it to all be cohesive ^^ (was a bit worried about the pilot portaits cause they were aded quite late and i didn't have time to shade them properly )

Thanks for playing and giving feedback :)

Amazing work on the sprites, and I like the background music. I also like that you added in different types of ships with different shooting patterns. The dodging is fun and I like how the enemies move and shoot differently from each other.

The bullets blend in with the background too much sometimes. This is especially a problem in the first stage, where it becomes really hard to see them over the water when they turn blue. I would add a thick outline around them, or just make them bright red or something to contrast with the darker look. I also think the boss takes way too much time to come - I thought it was an endless shooter at first until I saw the screenshots of the bosses. Finally, there should be some audio cues for when you get hit.

Overall, great job on the art and the game! I managed to beat the whole thing.

Developer

Thanks ! Glad you've enjoyed it and played it to the end :)

i wanted to try and have as much variety as i could with the ships and ennemies cause i feel i didn't have much in my past games, so hopefully i was able to deliver this time XD

Yeah now that i look at it i agree, the bullets definitively blend in a bit too much, i thought the constant color change would help having them stand out but i'll have to see which will be the best way to fix this.

As for the boss that's cause of the not that great system i made for how levels go, levels have a fixed number of each type of enemy and when all are dead the boss appears, this was not the brightest ideas cause indeed levels can be un necesseraly long like this, but i had some issues with spawns and all during developement and i didn't really had much time left to rethink my level structure  and same lack of time left applies for the  audio cues ^^'

Thanks again for trying my game out, and taking time to give some feedback !  :)
