Very creative and I love the athmosphere you created in this game.

Good Job! :)

Thank you for playing!

The art is nice, but the music is great ;-). The game is a bit short, but probably the right length. The reveal at the end, explaining why the character can't go backwards, was great. Perhaps you can explore that a bit further in the game.

[spoilers] The part were you need to start moving backwards wasn't very clear to me. I kept on walking to the right and then got reset without any feedback as to what I was doing wrong. Also, were the puzzle pieces physical pieces? (that would make sense from the reason as to why you can't go backwards) Maybe you could have made that more clear.

Developer

Thank you for playing and for the critique! Making a longer game keeping the same narrative was very difficult, so I decided to go with a compact story. About the part where you need to start going backwards, I decided not to give any explicit clue to fit the theme, I thought that showing the doors, having a dead end and the audiovisual sign when you press the LeftArrow/A was enough for the player to know what to do. About the puzzle pieces, I don't understand the question, sorry...

Submitted

With that question I was reffering to the fact that the character suffers from memory loss (amnesia). So, were the puzzle pieces a way for the character to remember his thoughts? Does he carry around wooden planks with words on them to remember questions or am I reading into things to much and was it just a coincidence?

Developer

The character represent the player. Who suffer from amnesia is the friend (or the game). The pieces are a way for the player to communicate with the game.

i very much enjoyed how the story was built into the game and the creative level design. i would've definitely been interested in a longer game and knowing more about the characters and their story.
good job! :)

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! Maybe creating a longer version/second part would be interesting. Thanks!

Wow. I am completely blown away by this. The graphics, the way the game interacts with you, the puzzle elements -- this game is amazing. If I had one tiny suggestion to make it better -- the default unity physics are a bit floaty so I would tweak them to make them crisper.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback! I'm happy you liked it. And thanks for the suggestion! By the way, I played and rated your game yesterday, definitely innovative visuals.

Really cool 3D RED and BLUE effects man, and the watercolors omg. I think it was a bit challenging at the door underground but really cool experience overall. I think the game didn't let me progress after I clicked the puzzle pieces in the wrong order in front of the door and after that It didn't reset and I couldn't progress. Try our game out too <3

Developer(+1)

Hi! Be sure to be near the door when clicking on the pieces. You'll see they change colour when you're close enough. Also, the pieces change colour again and make sounds when you click on them. Restarting is not needed, if you enter any wrong answer, the game makes a "wrong" sound and it resets automatically.

I see, thanks man!

The art style (both visuals and audio) is outstanding. I did have difficulty figuring out how the puzzle pieces  were supposed to work.

Thank you for the submission!

Developer

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you liked the art!

Hi! :D I really enjoyed playing your game and it all felt really polished! The ending cutscene was extremely well done and creative! The text was a really innovative way of telling the story and I liked the audio that went with it. The music was also very beautiful! Great job!

Thank you for playing! I'm happy you enjoyed it. Thanks for the great feedback!

Graphics are coherent, for the most part, doors excepted. They look like they don't belong in the universe. The animations are a bit dodgy as they trigger at unexpected times. For instance, going down slopes causes the character to fall indefinitely until you stop.

Music doesn't look. Sounds are repetitive as very few samples are used.

The only relationship with theme is when I went backwards in the "So Close" area. I didn't see any other parts of the game, because after collecting the puzzle pieces and going to the area where I could used them, I tried the obvious option, then all of the combinatorics. I the retried all of them again, one by one, entering and leaving the trigger collider. Nothing happened. I then quit.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! I'll change the door after the jam ends. In the door section, the player needs to be near the door for the pieces to be interactable. When you enter the trigger, the pieces change their color and when you press them, they make a sound (and their color changes again). Also, it's not needed to go away and reenter the trigger if you input any wrong answer, the pieces will reset automatically. About the relation with the theme, I'm afraid the big part of it is after that door.

I would appreciate if you tried again getting as close as you can to the door, so that you can see the whole story. I think your opinion will change.

Game, Music and Story were all really good and i genuinely enjoyed my time playing through. The controls felt smooth and the environment and atmosphere were very well executed.

However i did find a bug to do with the door section. First time playing through i imputed the pieces in the wrong order, i then went away from the door and tried again this time in the right order and they went bright red. However the door did not open. It was only after a restart that it opened.

Bug a side it was a great although short play through and i wish to see more of your work in the future. From PiFox :D

Developer

Thank you for playing! I'll definitely check the door again. I haven't found any bug yet, it works fine for me. I suppose the problem is that the mechanic is a bit confusing because the player needs to be near the door for the pieces to be interactable. Anyways, I appreciate you took time for restarting and going through all again. I'm happy you could see the whole story. Thanks!

Oh man... The feels in this one...
This was so beaultiful! The graphics, soundtrack, story... I wish this game could be longer, but I think it was enough to tell a good story. I was not expecting neither that ending, nor the relation between the meaning of this game's title. This game was incredible and very well executed!

Developer(+1)

I felt really happy reading your comment! I'm so happy you liked "Backwards" and enjoyed it as much as I did while creating it. Thank you so much!

This game was really interesting not only to play, but to watch. I wish I could move faster , but after all, I loved the story line.  try playing my game we tried our best to make it: https://biebrass.itch.io/lying-ads

Developer

Thanks for playing! Slow speed was intended so that players can read the texts properly. I've already played and rated Lying Ads, good job!

Thank you very much!

Very great art and idea! Really can feel a great effort here!

Minor note: Also stuck at the puzzle but after the game restart it worked.

Developer

Thank you for playing! I've just checked the puzzle and worked fine for me (tried getting wrong and correct answer). Anyways, I'm glad it worked at the end and you could see the whole story. Thanks!

Submitted(+1)

Um.. I am stuck at the door .. where "who are you" puzzle pieces come... I cant open the door.. I clicked "who you are" by mistake but  I cant go beyond that... The music was cool btw.

Developer

Hi! The puzzle reset if you input any wrong answer, so you can try as many times as you want. Be sure to be near the door when you do it, you'll see the pieces get an intense red color.

OK ... will do again.
