I dig the thematic implications, the visuals easily could've better but a full-fledged game material right here!
the game is pretty cool the idea of choosing between telling the truth and get trust level up or lie and get some coins
here are some things you should add if you are willing to update the game:
1.animation for the player
2.arrow navigation to find someone more easily
3.add a tutorial its very important that the players who play the game will understand what is the idea and what the goal in the game
although great job on the game
it would be great play and rate mine too!
Rated - All the different sprites are cool and noticeably unique. Good job submitting a game. Hope you learned a lot from this jam! Take peoples suggestions and improve the game, or your next jam game. Please check out my game when you have time~ good day!
The game is fun but it lacks information, you can hide some information from the player in games but if you dont tell anything to the player we wont know what to do, the map and the stats windows help a little bit but in order to open those windows you need to press a button that you dont even know you can. And also even with the stats window i couldn't understand exactly what was going on, what made the deadline timer go up down, why would i need trust and somethings like that. I really liked the concept of the game and all the different dialogues are cool, overral is a nice entry :D
I liked the "distance left to closest target" thingie, made it easier to find them, though I didn't really understand who to lie to and who to tell the truth, even with all that dialogue text. Like Stefano said, you need to know what is happening and why, otherwise you randomly walk around, until the game is over (another reason unknown) The art and sound are decent, next time test the game with your friends, and don't tell them anything. That way you will know what's not clear enough. That's how I do it, and I'm always surprised to see they find something ambiguous which I thought was clear enough.
Lol that was a trip. More like a politician simulator 😉 A whimsical and fun submission.
After reading the comment from Stefano I realised that what you're supposed to do in the game. Click the controller in the main menu, quickly click past the giant wall of text and read the controls. Now the minimap is pretty useless, because it's just a camera above your head; you need to add some sprite overlays to better show things on the map. The stats UI isn't great either; why not just show how much coin and trust the player still needs to get.
I've played through your game a couple times now and the endings are so abrupt. With the bad FBI ending he hadn't even finished his sentence, before the game over screen. I also didn't understand when I'm supposed to lie and when I should tell the truth. Like Stefano said: the concept is interesting, but the execution is lacking.
I've done the first two runs before I knew that the controller icon on the top left was the instruction panel. A good old "How to play" menu item would have been better to me.
I think that the mini map panel and the info box on the right are always needed, how can anyone play this game without knowing the next objective?
As I said I've done the first two runs without knowing what to do and I suddendly got the game over screen because I didn't have the two panels.
Also you said that the various characters had a difficulty factor but I havn't seen it anywhere so I randomly decided to lie or to tell the truth and it's never fun in a game if you don't know why are you doing something. And if they had a difficulty factor shown then how was I to know if I was able to pass the check or not?
The idea for the game is interesting, you have limited time to gain trust and money from your clients but I think it is underdeveloped. It doesn't fit the theme of the jam too much because the liar is the protagonist and not the game itself.
I don't want to be overly critical but this could have been a good game with a little more attention to its main features.
The pixel art graphics are cool and also the chiptune music but it needs to be expanded and refined a little.
Good luck for the jam!
The game idea is very interesting! I've played quite a while to become a rich guy.
The graphics are consistency which is very nice. And you have very detailed instructions on controls.
However, the mini map and stats box is so important. So, it should show at the very beginning! Also, adding player animations will be perfect.
Really fun idea! Art and audio could be improved and maybe try adding some animations for the player.
You'll get a lot of innovation points though! :D
rated! funny game!! such an original idea tho!
Don't forget to rate my game please: https://itch.io/jam/cgj/rate/476599
Rated, the idea was doubtlessly original.
