  • The premise is endearing and the art from the stills is super well made! The platforming actually feels really nice to control and I like the go fast design on those segments. Great storytelling and job well done! --- 28/40

I like how the game reused a level you had seen before. The jump circles were a neat mechanic, but felt less skill based and more mash encouraging. I think with a tad more work this could be an amazing game. Great proof of concept though, and a neat story idea.

Enjoyed the game! I loved how the platforming sequences blended in with the story of trying to say hello to new people and the friend you hadn't seen in a while! I felt myself yearning for more of the story in the story sequences and the platforming in the story sequences, which is awesome. The writing was good and I felt connected to the main character.

My only feedback is that the double jump is very awkward (I have to hit Z at the right time otherwise I fall through the orb). This has killed me a ton trying to time my Z key with the orb.  In addition, some facial expressions on the characters would have conveyed the dialogue a lot better.

Nice job!

Pretty damn good! The anxieties of a platforming challenge paralleled with the anxieties of talking to an old friend is a really cool concept, especially when you're trying to vertically scale a level (and how you have to scale it slowly at first vs. quickly later when actually saying hi). The falling down event is also very memorable, really nicely conveys that exact feeling when you miss the timing by just a bit.

Writing was also pretty good. It sorta broke my heart towards the ending but the general messaging was quite solid- maybe integrate text into the platforming blocks? Wished that writing was more integrated into the level design itself.

Intro levels were pretty well constructed, faithfully following the Mario logic of "introduce a mechanic in a safe space -> elaborate on that mechanic with risk -> further elaborate on that mechanic".

Bouncing ball to double jump felt a bit too tight on the timing, but it definitely conveyed that rushing emotion/confidence- again, conveying emotion with level design. Very very well done.

I've learned a ton through this game- hopefully we can collaborate in the future!

its a pretty interesting concept relating platforming to some hurdle in life , i would like to see more time put into the level design for each emotion , the last one definitely got to me. I would say you guys should check the responsiveness of the jump because many times i fell even though i pressed the jump button ( especially with the orbs) . I liked the story though not super compelling for me. Great job guys

I thought this game did a good job at conveying an emotional journey through action. I don't believe emotional journey is the best word to use but basically you had moments where the player is running in the playground or just trying to say hello. Those are experience that are difficult to describe and I enjoyed the way this game did so. When running in the playground, the ecstatic energy that I would have as a kid is expressed by jumping through the level with an skipping momentum. The fear of saying hello to your friend is expressed by traversing platforms that go up and down, which to me, I felt symbolized hesitation. Then the level repeats itself, but this time, your childhood memories push you all the way up to finally say hello.

On thing I think could improve is the art. I actually liked the art, but I didn't feel like it reinforced the desired emotion of each level. For instance, in the level where you hesitate to say hello, the level art seems to have a dungeon theme and that threw me off a little because I couldn't relate that setting to the moment in the story. But that's hard to do lol. I'm glad I got to play this, nice game!

I liked it! The message was good - I think the music really added to the second half of the game, and the platformer felt tight and responsive. I liked the jump orbs, and how you used them to repurpose that one level.

I do think the writing feels a little unnatural- some of the sentences don't sound like things that a normal person would say aloud. And the game is all about connection, so the dialogue is important.

I think the colored pencil aesthetic is super cool. I wish the platformer design leaned more into the pencil style. I like how the characters are minimalist.

From one artist to another, I would highly recommend the artist to really embrace using reference images when drawing. No good artist creates without a reference - every artist does it. The shading is good, the lineart is good, but the anatomy is just a little off.

I really liked it!

I'm glad you liked it! I'm still a bit new to art, so the advice is very much appreciated. :)
