Hey I had a lot of fun with this one. I love deckbuilders so I got the gist of it really quickly. Everything made sense and the mechanics worked well with eachother. Only downside is the same thing that can affect all card games and that's RNG. I came super close to beating the boss but that RNG hit me bad with so many attacks of 25+ damage that I literally couldn't block anywhere close to all of it that they whittled me down just a bit faster than I could stick it out for. Would have loved to try again from the boss but unfortunately it would have meant starting over from the very beginning. Really solid game though, very enjoyable!

I think something that could help balance it is either getting an extra card to choose from after each victory, or the option to remove a card from your deck when you gain a new one (thinning out starter cards). Another option could also be cards that have a currency value when played and a shop you can visit in-between battles to either heal up or purchase more cards for your deck. Maybe even cheap but powerful one-time use cards or something! Anyway, just some ideas!

EDIT: Just wanted to add a link. I played your game while recording and uploaded some of them so the devs can get some better visual feedback. Your game starts at 31:03

This was such a fun and tight little card-battler! I can definitely see the potential for added cards and effects but this is a really solid foundation. It was a challenge, but I managed to beat it. I really like the visuals and the screen effect. Great job!

Whilst I usually don't get on very well with digital card games I really enjoyed this one. It's very solid.

Gameplay wise this is one of the most solid entries! I had so much fun going through all the levels and fighting the final boss! The strategy behind it is really interesting and gives space to a lot more complex scenarios!

The design was really well done, the sounds were serviceable, and the story was entertaining!

I would love to see a complete version of this with some music playing in the bg and yes more levels MOREEE!

If you ever need any help with music or anything let me know! I was really invested in this game.

Great game! I liked the art and the CRT effect was a nice addition. The mechanics were simple yet had depth. I can see that a lot can be done with this game.

I really enjoyed this game. I also liked that there's a certain amount of strategy involved although I mostly sucked and got eaten by the garden monsters haha! Super cool visual and the sound design is really fitting. I missed some ambiences like maybe some wind or a bit of music. Realy cool overall though!

What a great game! This must be inspired by Slay the Spire. Would be nice to have some music and buff/debuff cards. The current cards feel very well balanced though. Also works great on mobile. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Haha yes extremely Slay the Spire influenced! I definitely did have plans for some buffs / more cards but didn’t manage to fit them in. Thanks so much for playing! Good to hear it worked on mobile, I hadn’t thought to test that

A great game! I played it twice to kill the final boss. I think the overall style is very fitting. I think I missed the background music a little bit. I think that it’s a great option to turn off the shader because reading text was a bit difficult with it turned on. Thanks a lot for the game, I really enjoyed it!

Thank you for playing! And congrats on winning 😁

For sure it’s lacking in the sound department. I got one song I threw together but it wasn’t the right energy for anything other than maybe menu or credits and ended up a slightly annoying loop so it got dropped

Phenomenal main menu and snappy gameplay.

Found out that I could double (and sometimes triple) click my attacks when targeting, triggering the attack multiple times (hitting the same target or multiple, it's a pretty wide window). Honestly, this didn't feel too broken, it was quite fun, but I doesn't seem like it's intended.

The EXTREME damage made me laugh.

Would love to see more card variety and enemy types!

Developer(+1)

Ahah the double attacking is hilarious. This is why you shouldn’t be your own playtester!

Definitely had planned for more cards and enemies but such is jam life 😅

Thanks so much for playing!

Let me start by saying that this game is really amazing to play! The amount of work that went into making the game as appealing as it is is just astonishing! The mechanics are very deep for a game jam game, and I can imagine it being expanded into a larger game. It doesn't feel real that this is a game made in a game jam :).

I just have some small criticisms of the game, but they are more nitpicking honestly.

The first is regarding balance. There is no way to gain health in between levels, however, the enemies grow in strength every turn. Because of this, the last level is almost impossible since you start with very little health.

The second is that the game feels a bit too generic. Lovecraftian themes could also have been incorporated into the cards and mechanics of the game, instead of just the Lovecraftian makeover on the enemies.

Other than that, this game is absolutely fantastic and I really enjoyed it from start to finish :)!

Thanks so much for playing and commenting!

It definitely was a big lift and I’m so tired now.

RE:balance, honestly that’s the biggest thing I knew I ran out of time on. I had plans for more cards and more event types other than just battle so you would have chances to heal and power up. There’s currently a single card that let’s you heal (only unblocked) damage, but it’s possible to not even get the option for that card if the loot rolls go badly.

Maybe after recovering for a bit I’ll pick this back up and make it better. Thanks again!
