Amazing atmosphere and thanks a lot for making jumpscares optional! I really liked that it gives you hints if you're stuck for long enough. I still got stuck on the shifting one though. Very unique game, liked it!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for the kind comments
I absolutely love these kind of puzzle games, but man, I'm terrible at deciphering codes! I got stuck on like, the third website. I'm fairly confident the solution had something to do with the Fibonacci sequence, but the numbers 11 or 37 didn't work out, sine they aren't in the sequence at all. Anywho, cool game but I've got no ideas what to do for that third one. I love the ambiance though.
You were quite close, these were prime numbers :) It actually gives you very straight forward hints if you stay on a riddle long enough.
Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed! The other reply is correct, it was a prime number cipher.
Very interesting game, but was too hard for me to finish. That being said, it's definitely an original entry and I think it does what it set out to do.
Thanks for the feedback!
I really enjoy fake browsers like this in games. I'd love to see a longer version of this without the Shrek theming and with harder puzzles (and hints optional instead of on timer)
Thanks for the feedback! Optional hints is definitely a good idea, and if we continue with the game we will definitely add harder puzzles!
Games that require outside knowledge are always pretty hit and miss depending on who's playing, but your hint system built into the mood of the game is a great idea. Reminds me of early browser games.
Some of the puzzles take an irritating amount of time to decode simply because of the choice of solution, e.g. using long words when short words would do, meaning there's a gap of time where you've solved the puzzle but have to do the grunt work to get the payoff.
Thank you for the feedback! I think to try to minimize that puzzle delay feature and the outside knowledge we may add something like a dCode.exe on the desktop if we decide to continue working on the game in addition to shorter but more difficult puzzles.
Really interesting concept, fairly unique and reminded me of the early 2000's puzzle websites that required you to look at the source code to lead you to the next page! What a bit of nostalgia there haha. Unfortunately I got stumped and couldn't finish it, but I'll probably come back to it later and give it another go. I thought the jump scares were a bit unnecessary, not that they scared me but I mostly found them annoying while trying to read the pages and concentrate. I really wish the browser screen was larger though, I get you were trying to constrain it to the monitor but even then that could have been larger. All in all pretty cool and interesting game :)
Thank you for the feedback! You can actually click the green button on the browser to expand it to full screen, although the graphics do become a bit stretched.
The large number of jumpscares were kind of a result of a combination of not enough playtesting outside of me and my teammate and us knowing the puzzles beforehand. The jumpscares occur at the same time as website mutations which also act as hints for the ciphers (unless there are bugs we don't know about), so I think that we kind of made the frequency a bit too often since we didn't have much outside input about the actual cipher difficulty. That is definitely something that we will change if we decide to continue with future updates, or maybe even remove/alter entirely (noise jumpscares/minor glitches only?)
Anyway, glad you enjoyed it!
I quite enjoyed this game! It was fun to solve the puzzles and the mood was great! Great job on this game!
Thank you!
Something that bothered me was that one of the puzzles was obviously hinting at a certain cipher, but that cipher only partially worked.. maybe there was just something I didn't understand about it, but it felt like a mistake.
In any case, I thought the theme was amusing. The tonal clash between the intro/glitches and the.. 'creature' hunting you was pretty funny. I felt the horror was a little cheap though, because the glitches happened so often and completely obstructed what I was doing. Maybe I would have appreciated the game more if I liked jumpscares, but I liked the fact that I could toggle them off, because it's not my preference.(small note- the toggle persisting when you go back to the main menu would be nice)
I'm mostly picking at the negatives though. The UI was nice, I had some fun figuring out the puzzles, and the game is rather impressive for a jam. I also apreciated the fact that the game persisted when you came back from the menu, because having to keep my notes in real life to get back to where I was would have been annoying. Nice work on this!
Thank you for the feedback! The toggle persisting would definitely have been a good add. The glitches were probably a bit too short, probably a result of us knowing the ciphers already and not enough outside playtesting due to time constraints. Glad you enjoyed it!
The ambiance was great. I lose because I was to long to translate messages even with the encryption method... Nice game.
Thanks! I might give a bit more time to solve them if I work on the game further
I almost jumped out of my chair after I searched sh43k.com lol. Nice game tho
Thanks! The scares are actually on a sort of timed system (not going to reveal too much about it since that kind of ruins it), but it's actually kind of interesting that the scare happened immediately as you typed in sh43k. Glad you liked it!
