Theme (enemy)

1000 pigeons

Correlation to theme
The drums and bass are there to represent the energetic side of the volatile band on a frenzied rhythm. Effects and a few synths represent their attacks and movements, grouped or disordered, swooping or swooping... but also when they're communicating. The synth chords and melodies are there to remind us of one thing... a general state of alert, which seems unreal in view of their numbers.

Very interesting not to start with a "melody" but rather with a mood. It's very clearly boss music. I really like the heavy work on the effects and the different grooves. That's not usually what's on offer, and it's cool to have distinctive sounds like yours.

And you were a little greedy and couldn't resist composing for the 3 Enemies!

Thanks for your feedback!

Indeed, maybe it's not the best choice to work on the other enemies, rather than concentrate on the one given.

Those fast section changes really amp up the overall vibe giving the song more bossfight like feeling. The LFO racheting of lead synth around 1 minute mark was one of my favourite details. Very good!

Developer(+1)

Yes, I tried to convey several stages of a boss fight, like an energetic Shoot Them Up.

Your comment makes me happy... thanks!

Really loved this! The sudden stark transitions and new phrases that come in make the whole thing feel frantic and unsettling, which is perfect for the theme. You really nailed the sound of the synths too. They totally sound like angry pigeons synths!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Glad you commented on the synths. I particularly worked on them with a lot of difficulty (but I'm not completely satisfied). They are created from snare or hi-hat.
I'm glad you find the track consistent with the theme.

And I hadn't noticed... we took part in Town Music Jam #3.

I liked your work... you're a good competitor! ;)

It's nice to see entries with less melodic aspects and more chaotic and experimental elements, especially pigeon entries because they fit so well with this kind of bosses!

The synth of the first section represents the rage of pigeons very well (or at least, that's what I interpreted). The drum arrangement is also unpredictable (which is what you'd expect from 1000 pigeons) yet satisfying to hear. The swiping sound as a flying sound and hi-hats as a marching sound are clever choices of instruments as well.

The melody sounds both goofy and disturbing at the same time. That is considered a good thing for a pigeon entry.
Nice job!

I’m glad you felt my intentions in the theme of my music.

Thanks for your review!

I felt surrounded by 1000 haunting pigeons! Love all the ideas in this and how the song evolves!

Mission accomplished, glad you're done.  :-)

Thanks to you!

I listened to all the songs but I think I'm only supposed to rate it based on the pigeon one so that's what I did. I liked the really quick notes that would sometimes happen. I added even more of a sense of urgency along with the general vibe of the track.

It was nice of you to take the time to listen to the other songs, they were done to see if I could work on the other enemies.

If you want to share your opinion on this one, don't hesitate. From my point of view, it's moderately successful.

But I had a lot of fun!

Thanks for your feedback!

Ah, I know you from your 'Hot Spring Town' in the previous Town Music Jam! Nice to see you again here :)

Very interesting entry. It is very wild and never seems to repeat itself (something I struggle with: I always repeat). I can hear the 'alertness' theme in here and never know what to expect. Although there is nothing particularly birdlike about this song, I can imagine the motives of 'movement', 'attacking' and 'grouping' you put in, which is quite nice. Some parts like 1:30 are a bit harder to grasp, going into the 'disordered' state as you call it, and other sections are more calm like 0:30 (perhaps grouping?). The ending was a bit surprising though. Overall, it's a well-made song fitting the constant feeling of being under attack from a flock! Well done :D

And what do I read here? You have made more songs for the other enemies? Cool, I might give them a listen too :)

It's a pleasure to see you again on this Jam, having enjoyed your work at the Town Music Jam.

I try not to make it redundant, although it still is a bit. It still lacks variation, and the track could be a little longer.

I'm glad that my initial objective was generally understood, despite my choice to use only my small sample pack.

Why do you find the ending a bit surprising?

Thanks for your feedback on my work, don't hesitate if you have the time and inclination to review my other tracks. Whether positive or negative.

I'd love to hear from you!

The only two endings I typically consider 'standard' are fade-outs or satisfying endings (don't know how to describe them: the way pop songs or classical musics end). Your ending did not feel like a standard ending; it felt like the song could very well continue after the final 'bleeps'. But that is not necessarily a bad thing! I think I mainly got surprised because, after those bleeps, the song cut off quite quickly (instead of your usual '2 seconds of silence') and another song started playing, which caught me off-guard. And the reason it cut off quite quickly is because I used a poor site to change your WAV to MP3, so that is not your fault ;)

I intend to rate everyone's track, and since I listen to every track about 2-3 times before I give a detailed rating and comment, I can only give about 7 songs a rating per hour xD. Thursday or Friday, when I have finally finished all the songs, I intend to come back and listen to your other enemy songs, and to give commentary on them :D (if only I won't forget...)

Indeed, I preferred to make this unconventional ending so that it could loop at the very beginning or at 0:54.

I understand that it gives the impression of being waiting for something to happen next.

You're well organized for listening and scoring! Gathering all the songs and converting them is a real job. I admit I'm not as assiduous, but I agree with you about the number of listens... 3x minimum.

I invite you to use the soundcloud link to discover the other tracks created for the other two enemies.

Those who've crossed their path have been traumatized, some even driven mad... to the point of losing their minds!

Make sure you're not alone, because it's going to come from all sides.

The exchange will be so intense and sustained that you'll need to keep your wits about you. Always aim for the head, preferably the eyes!

They seem disorganized and not aggressive in small groups?

Beware... an ambush is brewing!
