I also wasn’t able to download the game.

Though, I’m very intrigued by animation style (and overall humor). Really interested in seeing the full experience!

hiya I've fixed the download now :) I put a new demo up a few days ago and forgot to tick no payments. so where the game is free i think that was causing it.

Hello! Welcome to Feedback Quest 6! My name's Hythrain, and I'm one of the hosts and streamers for this event! This feedback is being written live on my stream.

So this didn't really didn't give me anything to give feedback on. It's just two screens that you walk through, nothing to interact with beyond doors, then a title screen and that's it. The screenshots show way more, but that means nothing if we can't test it out. Meanwhile, we can't download the game where we can get more of it.

Without being able to play more, I simply can't rate this well at all. I would recommend looking into fixing the download ASAP.

Developer

wait the download isnt working?! i'll get on it asap!

Developer

small update: download is working now! idk what happened sorry.

So not a lot to provide feedback on with what's available since I can't download so I could only play the web version. The core idea here I like and the combination of the art and the music is really good. I loved the chipper-atmosphere of the tunes and the whole venture beyond cutscene at the end was great. My biggest feedback is that if you are going to launch it on Kickstarter, there are some big quality of life things I would work on before then just so you get as positive a first experience as possible.

For starters, I would put the controls on the itch.io page or somewhere in the game so people know how to play. The demo actually crashed on me the first time before I figured out how to enter the door. (It kept crashing when I had it fullscreened but ran without issues if I didn't fullscreen it) Also the web page does not format correct for me, it runs off to the side and I have to scroll back and forth to read the description. If it helps, I'm using Firefox on 1980x1020. If it all fit on one screen, it would help make the page look a bit more polished.

Aside from that, I would recommend adding subtitles and changing the audio balance a bit. The main menu is very loud so I turned my audio down, but then I started the game and missed half of the intro because I didn't realize he was saying anything until I turned my audio back up again. Adding a text box/subtitles would make sure people don't miss that first dialogue which I think is pretty critical. When I rebooted it the first time, I got to hear the whole intro and it seemed to set the scene really well so definitely don't want people to miss that.

Bit of a novel but I think you have a really good concept and the game looks/sounds really nice. So wanted to make sure I passed along everything I had off the top of my head. Nice job and I hope the campaign goes well!

thank you for the feed back i really appreciate it! i think i can make it smaller to fit more nicely on the screen, its currently set at 1920x1080 so ill play around with the set till i get a good fit :)

i agree completely ill add the controls to the itch page, i plan to have more "bubbles" with the controls in like the press up one explain more in the future.

Subtitles is actually a super good idea! i'll also play around with the volume levels to try and fix that up too! I already have a class set up for text and whatnot so that wouldn't be too difficult to do i dont think!

the home level is basically the exposition dump before you play the game so i get that. after the title screen in the main demo is a side scrolling shooter level and there's levels with a mixture of genres coming in the future.

thank you for such an in-depth comment i really appreciate the feedback :D

small update: i think the screen width is fixed now and the download is working! controls are on the page and subtitles, sound management are on the list of priorities to fix.

That looks a lot better with the screen width, nicely done! Fits perfectly now and having the controls listed definitely helps.

I think there is an issue with the sound, it keeps on echoing in a weird way. It seems like the sound is being played multiple times at once.

Developer

yeah the web version isnt the greatest, i spend like 8 hours trying to get it to work and thats the best i could do. the demo works smoothly and theres actual levels not just the intro one hahaha (size limit for web)

Played your game! I can tell there defiantly love put into the art you made as everything was unique and charming. It gave me the energy of those early 2000's cartoons like Ed Edd and Eddy + way early web flash art. Down below are some small comments I had.

- Something like a heads ups up instruction and goal would be nice to have when we get to the SHUMP phase. I was a bit confused for a second.
- The roads in the town section I cannot walk in the middle off. I have to walk a little below those. Not sure if its a bug, but its something I wanted to bring up just encase!
- I really wanted to talk to those NPCs, but I could not figure it out. I think I have skipped on how to read it or something. Maybe a heads up display that goes over their end would be good, if I was able to do so!

Thank you! thats the vibe i was going for! that 90s/00s nickelodeon style of cartoons!

for the comments:

- this one is due to the story not fully being implemented yet, there will be more explanation in the finished animations in between the levels, i completely agree here.

-not a bug just a limitation right now, i'm working on making it so the player can walk behind the houses and trees etc to explore the whole area

- you are completely right! It's K to talk btw but only one npc can be talked to atm, The old lady,  the controls are due an overhaul so theres just a few buttons like controls, action key for talking/picking things up etc. i'll be dropping another demo in a few weeks that should hopefully have all 5 npc conversations in the village, if not 5 definitely 4, (need to work on saving conversation progress for the 5th as she has several interactions with you) all  branching narratives.

“I really liked it. I appreciate the unique identity that the art and music give it. I can also feel the care you’ve put into the game. The only thing that didn’t quite work for me was the screen proportion—it doesn’t display fully. But since this is a demo, I won’t be too critical. I believe that with a little more time and refinement, your game will offer a more solid experience. Great job!” 🎮👍

Developer

thank you thats really kind! ahhh yeah i can mess around with screen proportions and what not, i plan to continually update from this point :D
