I wanted to try making a sport game that was fun and easy to play. I started sometimes in January.
READ THIS PLEASE:
CONTROLS:
Initial Service: Hold Space bar button and release
Movement: AWSD - Arrow keys
To Click On buttons: Left mouse click
TIPS:
Get in the circle to be able to hit the ball with more power, but also control where the ball is going. You can aim once in the circle by using AWSD/Arrow keys. As you go through games it gets harder and harder.
The type of return depends on how much power you accumulated in the circle. There is 3 types of power: notEnoughStrenghtYet, LobBall, StrongBall. You have to run in the circle as fast as you can to be able to have more control on your return. Thanks for reading, good luck and have fun!

I am a big fan of the simple aesthetic and the arcady movement, I think I would genuinely be into a tennis game like this if it had tournaments etc. I guess it feels like there's a trade-off between arcadey fun and precision/skill-based gameplay, and maybe the game doesn't know which one it is yet? I'm definitely in the arcadey fun camp myself, but I can see it working either way. I do think the controls need tightening up a bit though, I have always struggled with that clash between moving in the direction to get to the ball and setting the direction of your shot, I guess that's a tough problem for any tennis game. Something I have considered in the past is having different buttons to hit in the direction you want and leaving the arrows just for movement, not sure how that would work in practice though.
Thanks for the feedback Second Dimension! You are making a valid point for the movement controls. I want to implement a tutorial first to see if people feel more comfortable playing like this. I'm thinking that maybe by knowing the controls before hands it will avoid the confusion. The reason behind it is that I'm trying toIf most people still struggling, then like you said I'll just try to add different buttons to aim. Cheers!
Amazing game!!!
The simple graphics are very nice and stayed in harmony with the rest of the game.
The menu music is also very good, and the SFXs fitted well with the game.
The gameplay is good. The mechanic of having to go to the circle to hit the ball, and then controlling the direction of it, is very interesting.
Liked a lot the interaction of the audience and its visuals too.
I had a lot of difficulty in the beginning to understand how to play, that we had to stay on the circle to charge the power and hit the ball. But after I learned it, I had a lot of fun.
I've also got some bugs with the circle. It happend one time that the circle vanished and the aim continued. Also, it happend that the player character got stuck in a circle after hitting the ball.
But the game is awesome. It's very fun to play!! Congratulations!!!
Hi! Thanks for playing and pointing out those bugs. I'm taking notes. :D
Took me a few tries to get used to it, after that I had a lot of fun. Loved the art and the audio, especially the sounds audience makes. :)
Hi Keyur! Thank you for playing and being so patient.
Hmm, I still don't get how to control it but anyway I like it :D
I'm glad you like it! :)
I like the bright aesthetic and the fact that the audience will look at the ball (looks cute XD).
The game mechanics is interesting as it primarily rewards reflex rather than accuracy (compared to other sports games).
One critical point I can give: Getting in the circle will freeze the character, but this may render the character unable to hit the tennis (depending on angle). In my opinion, having a way to maneuver inside the circle (after locking in) would be nice.
All in all, a quick and fun sports game.
Thanks for sharing your point Cake. It doesn't happen too often, but that's definitely something I want to clear for the post-jam version. Cheers!
Little bit hard to play at times but super satisfying! The artstyle and general aesthetic was amazing! This is really cool and I'd love to see it taken further!
Thanks for the kind words Jimmy! Good point. I would like to improve a couple of things in the post-jam version.
I would like to have gamepad support but other than that gripe a solid tennis game! ^ ^
Thanks TANTRUM!
Really neat. Love it.
Thank you, I appreciate it :)
Great art! Can't seem to return though - always seem to hit the net.
Thanks for playing Andy. I will definitely make a tutorial in the post-jam version. The type of return depends on how much power you accumulated in the circle. There is 3 types of power: notEnoughStrenghtYet, LobBall, StrongBall. You have to run in the circle as fast as you can to be able to have more control on your return. I hope this helps.
Ah that make more sense. Thanks!
